About 20-30% of medical wastes generated in Nigeria end up in the streets. That’s alarming.
A child in Kano once got infected with HIV/AIDS after being pierced by an improperly disposed needle.
A waste handler in Lagos once got infected with Hepatitis B in a similar case
There’s case on case of real people, getting the trajectory of their lives completely over turned by poorly disposed medical waste.
According to research, over a 100 to 200 healthcare workers in Africa, die yearly due to infections from Needle piercing. In Nigeria in particular, a study showed that atleast 48% of healthcare workers have been pierced by used needles.
This is a call to action
