I have a few theories on why he didn't make a lasting impression. 1. Every original Icon before him was the corruption of something generally positive. Jack was a corrupted clown, the Caretaker was a corrupted doctor/, the Storyteller was a corrupted elderly lady, Director = corrupted Director, the list goes on. Fear is... nothing. Sure, he has a fairly intimidating appearance, but there's little in reality to reference him with. The fact that we have reference for what the others were makes them scarier. Fear doesn't have this. 2. All bark, no bite. As you mentioned it, Fear never got to prove how good he was at inspiring... fear. For someone who the other icons apparently can't compare to in terms of his terrifying presence, we never really got to see him do much. We know what each of the icons will do; Jack toys with his victims a bit before using blade weapons, the Caretaker will dissect his victims, Director kills in a cinematic fashion, the Usher won't do the deed himself, instead, he'll get some movie monsters to do it for him. I don't know about you, but I don't quite know what Fear will do. He can apparently manipulate flames and possess others, but that isn't enough. How does he slay his victims? They say there's fear in the unknown, which is true. However, it is easier to imagine ourselves in a horrifying situation when we clearly see what our aggressor does to another.
@@deshawnedwards6412 In theory, that's the idea, at least. She never got the spotlight as an icon, but yes, she's a twisted depiction of a child. In fact, children are particularly common in the horror genre for this reason. Even if they're not the main threat, the contrast of a childlike innocence with such morbid, horrific situations is a very unnerving thing.
Yeah, many iconic horror villains are manipulations on normal and innocent things, Freddy Krueger is the corruption of dreams, Chucky is the corruption of dolls, so on and so forth

God I love Halloween and horror. I'm not normally big on these more interactive haunts, but I want to go just because of how much I've come to love Jack the Clown just through your videos. That dude deserves a movie franchise of his own purely because of how hard the actor goes to bring the character to life.

The houses in lady luck era are all connected to her, and each houses are about her victims making wrong decisions challenging their "luck". And also i think the reason why she is not that talked about in the HHN community is because of the event and how they poorly promote her. her mask is so tacky and look cheap compared to fear which is so realistic. And the fact that they only give her a little scarezone that year called "you run out of luck" like.. come on, lady luck has many potential. But they wasted it like what they did to Bloody Mary
Tears yes!! I loved the old days when the houses used to fit in with the overall story / theme for the year. Lady Luck was the last year that happened, and even then it wasnt as much as usual. I miss HHN 18-21. The golden years honestly.
During my orientation at Universal, we were treated to a Q&A with the actor portraying the Caretaker. It was a cool way to come into the company. The Director remains my favourite along with his “All Night Die In” house.

These, and your videos on European theme parks (Efteling, Tibidabo) are my personal favorites when you cover them! I hope you end up covering some Asian theme parks (aside from the obvious Disney and Universal ones, although I would love to see your videos on those too) soon! If you're taking requests for more HHN icons, I would love to see you cover some of the other forgotten/secondary ones like Nightmare from HHN 12, The Terra Queen from HHN 15, Eddie Schmidt and Cindy Caine-- even though they are well-know, they're not up there in popularity like The Caretaker, Jack, The Storyteller, The Director, or The Usher. I'd also love to see a video on Chance because I'm curious to know if there's more to the story of how her character came about and was developed beyond basically being Harley Quinn. Especially since her and Jack's relationship doesn't seem to be as toxic/abusive as the original Joker and Harley (Jack at least appears to like Harley and isn't abusive to her as Joker is with Harley). I don't know if you could dedicate an entire video to The Patient from HHN 13, but maybe you could do a video on why the HHN team chose not to have an official icon that year and why they went with the mental asylum theme they did that year? My worry is that certain icons won't get covered since their backstories aren't really fleshed out, and all the information that's available on them has already been discussed in your HHN retrospective, and there's not a whole lot you can add to them.

Consider Halloween is my favorite holiday, I love the Expedition Haunts best, and this made my day so much better! Also, sexiest icon is Chance. I think she had a , ahem, chance to be a great follow up and continuation from Jack and a cool connection to the 25th anniversary year, but they really dropped the ball in actually using her.
The problem with Lady Luck, the masks in the scare zone were piss poor and compared to the amazing icon in the ads, the scare actors in her photo op looked nothing like her. It was bad imo

The only times I had ever been to theme parks for Halloween events, I was scared to the point of crying alone in a corner after ditching the group I came with. This type of event is NOT for me, so I'm never going back, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the massive effort and passion that goes into these park projects. I'll observe from afar where I'm comfortable.

The first grand Marshall or lead icon of Halloween horror nights was HHN 5 and was the crypt keeper ! I want him back ! Super bummed this years is canceled. Ps that voice promoting your t shirts sounds like Bob Elliot. Keep up the great content !

Fear's intimidation factor is kind of ruined when you realise he's a few tweaks away from being a Pretty Cure villain. Although I guess that applies to the rest of the icons by proxy.
Personally I thought he looked like a Power Rangers villain from the later seasons ...huh. Maybe that’s why I unironically kind of like Fear as a concept

I'm excited to see your HHN video this year. I'll be going to HHN in the 2nd half of October. I'm excited for the Beetlejuice house, which btw, I just watched that movie for the first time about a week ago lol I hope HHN 30 is big this year. I'm also hoping that one of these years, they'll open up both parks again, and allow you to cross from Universal to Islands of Adventure using the Train during HHN, and have double the houses. God that would be so amazing.
fear: yea um... chatterer called, and needs compensations for using his face likeness. jack the clown during the interviews towards the end: looks like bill skarsgard as pennywise trying to do an impression of jim carrey as the grinch. the event looks fun thou.
Man, I thought pictures of Fear looked so cool. Only could go one night, and Fear was nowhere to be found. Really sad I didn’t see him in his scare zone or really anywhere. It felt more like a ramped up version of Sweet 16. And I LOVE Cindy. It was and is always great.

So, my thoughts on HHN my first year was with The Caretaker and my second was The Director.... I absolutely loved these two years and that everything was tied together into one story line for the entire event. The other thing i really liked was the year they used both parks, that being said... I would love to see them do a retrospective year that uses both parks, BUT set it up as One park looks back (houses and scare zones from previous years) and one park is all original laying the ground work for the next several years... eg: the start to new additional icons to get their own themed years over the next few years...
I always thought it would be great to see them do an event year that was a big overall story for the event and have it themed around Carey, OH as it is a recurring setting. Have it set as if the park is Carey and all of the mazes and scare zones are a setting there (asylum, orphanage, etc.)
I love HHN and all its lore on its own but Jim Timon is my uncle and while I should've expected to see him in a video at some point I did not expect that day to be today
One day... ONE DAY, I will get to go to Halloween Horror Nights. My job always gets busy in October, so this might just be my retirement celebration. They better keep it going till then!
I think Universal didn't forget him, they just realized he was like the final boss of HHN and HHN really wasn't supposed to have a final boss. it's like how so many horror movies shoot their load too early and then they realize "Oh yeah this wasn't supposed to be the last in the franchise. . . so now what?" that is basically Fear in a nutshell. The grand finale for a still ongoing yearly event that is no where near concluded or close to ending at all.

Well I have good news for you because recently in this year's party Fear returns with all the other Icons and you even get to go inside the Latern. It seems he may still have a hand in the latter events after all, even adding Chancy and Lady Luck to his team. Maybe Jack is even his second in command now.
I think Fear is type of character who is not without compassion. My fan theory is he revoked his plans and creations for last year, putting them on a halt with a handful of exceptions. He may felt all the crazy stuff that happened last year like the ongoing pandemic, the destructive riots, and political impacts were too dark, considering all that happened in our own worlds and doesn’t want to deal with them. He should come back, but I do want the character to appear with a newer look as a reference to how much the event grew and evolved with the addition of Lady Luck to represent fate as his newest heralded. Not sure how it would work for Chance though, since she still makes me think of Chaos, which is what Jack represents and still have it as a badge of honor.
For a good FYI, The app Logride recently put out an update that includes the ability to track, and find all the different haunt attractions. You can add ones that are missing from the list as well.
I have been so fortunate to see year 20 since I have been going ever year since 2009. I love the concept of Fear even though if he seems underrated and no appreciated enough. It just makes me wonder if year 30 will have a new icon, maybe the Pumpkin Lord?

I'm excited to see your HHN video this year. I'll be going to HHN in the 2nd half of October. I'm excited for the Beetlejuice house, which btw, I just watched that movie for the first time about a week ago lol I hope HHN 30 is big this year.
I'm also hoping that one of these years, they'll open up both parks again, and allow you to cross from Universal to Islands of Adventure using the Train during HHN, and have double the houses. God that would be so amazing.

Great retrospective
Man, I thought pictures of Fear looked so cool. Only could go one night, and Fear was nowhere to be found. Really sad I didn’t see him in his scare zone or really anywhere. It felt more like a ramped up version of Sweet 16. And I LOVE Cindy. It was and is always great.

So, my thoughts on HHN my first year was with The Caretaker and my second was The Director.... I absolutely loved these two years and that everything was tied together into one story line for the entire event. The other thing i really liked was the year they used both parks, that being said... I would love to see them do a retrospective year that uses both parks, BUT set it up as One park looks back (houses and scare zones from previous years) and one park is all original laying the ground work for the next several years... eg: the start to new additional icons to get their own themed years over the next few years...
I always thought it would be great to see them do an event year that was a big overall story for the event and have it themed around Carey, OH as it is a recurring setting. Have it set as if the park is Carey and all of the mazes and scare zones are a setting there (asylum, orphanage, etc.)
I love HHN and all its lore on its own but Jim Timon is my uncle and while I should've expected to see him in a video at some point I did not expect that day to be today

I think Universal didn't forget him, they just realized he was like the final boss of HHN and HHN really wasn't supposed to have a final boss. it's like how so many horror movies shoot their load too early and then they realize "Oh yeah this wasn't supposed to be the last in the franchise. . . so now what?" that is basically Fear in a nutshell. The grand finale for a still ongoing yearly event that is no where near concluded or close to ending at all.

Well I have good news for you because recently in this year's party Fear returns with all the other Icons and you even get to go inside the Latern. It seems he may still have a hand in the latter events after all, even adding Chancy and Lady Luck to his team. Maybe Jack is even his second in command now.

Wasnt is said that FEAR would come back in 10 years? So it would have been this year.
I think Fear is type of character who is not without compassion. My fan theory is he revoked his plans and creations for last year, putting them on a halt with a handful of exceptions. He may felt all the crazy stuff that happened last year like the ongoing pandemic, the destructive riots, and political impacts were too dark, considering all that happened in our own worlds and doesn’t want to deal with them.
He should come back, but I do want the character to appear with a newer look as a reference to how much the event grew and evolved with the addition of Lady Luck to represent fate as his newest heralded. Not sure how it would work for Chance though, since she still makes me think of Chaos, which is what Jack represents and still have it as a badge of honor.
If anyone is the sexy icon, it has to be the Usher.

I have been so fortunate to see year 20 since I have been going ever year since 2009. I love the concept of Fear even though if he seems underrated and no appreciated enough. It just makes me wonder if year 30 will have a new icon, maybe the Pumpkin Lord?
