Haha yeah im sure ill have another couple of breakdowns, but tbf on it joking aside, if not spent a great deal of time working thru everything systematically, plan is to get some miles on it and enjoy before the weather folds
Had a couple of V8 autos and a straight 6 years ago in the late 70s and 80s. Loved them. The 6 was a problem with oil feed to the head causing 2 failures but the V8s were mint. The sound of those engines!!!!! I live near Sheffield and had a trip to Liverpool in the first V8 and the exhaust blew coming home over the Peaks. What a sound!!
My Dad used to have a SD1 V8 that went through a stage of stumbling and hunting a bit at low to mid RPM. And it only really picked up when you got on it. He took it to RoverTune back in the day and it turned out to be the Electronic Ignition module failing. I seem to remember it was a common thing. He replaced that and it was perfect after that.
Redex, just took me back to the 90s, normally 😂 accompanied by stp oil treatment. Clean running with no tapping😂😂😂😂, thats virtually a total rebuild when your 17....
Great update, pleased its going well. The S shaped tailpipe will sort the fume in cabin problem. I’ve had both the straight exit & now the corner exit on mine & the latter makes a massive difference.
Something sounds a little metallic on acceleration but you mentioned a cracked downpipe, which could be that. I also thought your engine sounded like it was running a little bit fast in terms of revs on idle than I'd expect but that could be the microphone. I use Redex but am interested in the oil treatment as I've got cylinder no. 8 playing up on my car at the mo. It sounds lumpy on idle but the car's amazingly zippy when driving. I think you might find responsiveness is down to adjustment in the accelerator linkage if your setup allows for it. The pedal's also stiff on my car and the steering's light. Well done on all the work you've put in to this car. It's been fun following your journey.
Cheers mate. Yeah i think that noise is the downpipe flange crack, its nearly right the way around… next on my list. Your absolutely correct idle is high, im hoping to rebuild the carb later in the year, then get it set up correctly, It desperately needs its valley gasket doing as well,
I think that what I would do with that is take all the plugs out and put some atf into the cylinders and leave it sit for as long as possible, atf is a good detergent and if its got any stuck rings that should help release them.
Did you do a fuel injection swap to carbs? .. Just i always thought that the Vitesse only came in fuel injection? ... They eventually gave the Vanden Plas the Vitesse engine... I'm probably wrong lol 👍
Great update mate the SD1 sounds great and is looking good in its new paint, Your like me I’m still building my trust with my SD1 to 😂

Yeah will work through all that stuff in detail probably later the year, carb will definitely benefit from a strip down,

Its probably a bit more tame now, i didnt get all the smoke which was disapointing 🤣

Yeah i really dislike the look of the straight one
Sounds mint that ❤

I’d love to see a video on the valley gasket as it’s on my list of things to do and I’m a bit apprehensive of that one!

Yeah good idea, i recently used a product called SeaFoam does same kinda thing
