You mean the Bama that got beaten by a Tennessee team that got blown out by OSU even harder than IU did? So you would've liked a 42-15 ND win over Bama? What a joke.
IU was overmatched but I predict that won’t be the only lopsided outcome of this year’s playoff. There will be more. Perhaps by even more than just 10 points.
That's the beauty of sports, Rich, you never know what's gonna happen. You can analyse and predict all you want, but at the end of the day, two teams still need to show up and play the game and anything can happen. You can't engineer close contests to keep people entertained, you can hope for it, but you can't engineer it. There's been some one sided super bowls over the years, it would be easy to sit back and go "maybe this other team would have made it more competitive", but its too bad, they didn't earn the right to be there. Indiana earned the right to be there, and when they got there, they blew it. That's just what happens sometimes. You can hope for competitive games, but you can't expect competitive games. This isn't professional wrestling, you can't script a game hit the story beats to entertain people, the thrill comes in observing the outcome happening in real time. Sure, sometimes you observe that outcome by half time and you're just waiting for the game to be over but I'll say it again, that's just what happens sometimes. Now on to the next event to observe...
Not necessarily you had the dams that one year who had a losing record make the playoffs because their division was so trash. So the nfl has its flaws too.
Rich I once waited an entire football season to find out Manti Teo didn't have a girlfriend, and to watch Notre Dame lose by 35, Indiana did just fine. We literally just watched TCU get dog walked by Georgia two years ago, Indiana ascended to heights unimaginable this season.
This is a shitty video rich. You couldn’t just say great game by Notre Dame. You made it all about Alabama. These kids at Notre Dame busting there asses all season and still some how Alabama gets talked about more than they do. What a joke.
There will always be those who will complain about 'what could have been.' If it was an 18 or 24-team playoff it would be the same. Back when the teams were decided by computer to compete in the championship same thing. We will get what we get and let's hope the future is better than worse. So be it and make it so.
I hate this talking point... You're taking a large game away from both teams here by just throwing away everything that the game was...It was the biggest game in at least recently Indiana history, definitely in those mods lives, it was a very loud environment and they played their hearts out... For ND, your diminishing a huge win for them when all eyes were intensely on them and they just took a huge test on their academic career. Things happen, teams have bad nights, teams have good nights. Dont minimize this just because you wanted to be slightly more entertained.....
Sorry, but that’s not how any of this works. After we get a product like that, we are allowed to critique it. Especially when that simply was not the product a playoff game should’ve produced. No one thinks Indiana was one of the 12 best teams in the country this year.
dude. a 12 team playoff should let in someone that walked through their schedule. bama lost to vandy and Ok, so they lost the playoff before it started. Indiana didn't have a bad loss, so the system is set up to let them prove themselves. they didn't. that is the playoffs. better to let the play on the field determine things than a committee guessing at it with all their biases. believe me, people were happy to watch indiana instead of bama.
I disagree with you 100%! You’re absolutely WRONG Rich. Alabama had their chance and they lost it. It was Indiana turn to have a chance your analogy and or analysis of this is completely wrong next time think about what you say before you say it, Rich.
If Alabama won the games they were supposed to then we would not have complained about Indiana in the playoff and Alabama probably be killing notre dame in tuscaloosa
This isn’t about giving out participation, trophies and feeling good for the clearly inferior team only losing one game throughout the year. Everyone who has common sense understands that if they had to bet their family’s lives on who would win between Alabama and Indiana everyone is choosing Alabama because we have common sense and know Alabama‘s is a much better team than Indiana despite their loses.
A few years from now prayerfully cfp will have parity. But there has always been a massive difference in size, talent, speed between the elite 4 or so teams and the rest, the next 4 or so teams and the rest, and so on.
As an Alabama fan, I don't care that they missed the CFB playoffs this year. They lost 3 games. But, I think the committee undermined the value of a strong strength of schedule. Also, I think that next year people will probably not watch the first-round playoff games if they include teams with weak schedules. That will probably lead to major changes in the playoff format because no network wants to pay top dollar for playoff games unless they can attract enough viewers.
@@codydisney9959I'm no fan of bama, but it's probably bc he talked such a big game while *losing to the only two ranked teams he played.* It's not personal, and it really isn't rocket science.
To be perfectly honest we didn’t get that many really good games when it was 4 teams. Now we’re adding 8 teams who are average. I think I can remember 6-7 good games when it was the 4 team playoff and only one time when both quarterfinal games were good.
It does. If Bama had 2 losses, they would have been in. But they didn't, did they? They lost 3 games. Sucks to be them, because I guess the committee wasn't just an SEC fanboy who decided it doesn't matter how bad Bama played, because they're in the vaunted SEC.
If SOS matters, Mississippi St and Purdue should have been in. You can shout SOS matters all you want, but you still have to win games and especially don't lose 2 games to 6-6 teams.
Not a competitive game?? Set up a 12-team playoff and expect all competitive games? Next up is 16-team playoff and people still think the games will be more competitive. So stupid. More teams in the post season don't equal competitive games. To Alabama: Wins matter
Indiana is the new Colorado but with better results, and a better coach, and better recruiting. People are mad at Indiana, for winning. So what? The best is yet to come. Go IU.
You can’t make this call after the fact. Perhaps Bama would made it more of a game but they didn’t deserve to be in Indiana did. I hope the committee doesn’t get influenced by that. It should have been clear that these things may happen in 12 team playoffs that doesn’t mean the committee was wrong. It’s not supposed to decide based on possible matchups but on regular season results.
Teams 10 through 12 are always going to be wildcards. Every year, teams in that part of the rankings always have big talent and big flaws. This really shouldn't be that much of a surprise.
It isn't about better games more it is who deserves to be there. Indiana lost but if they had won it wouldn't be a conversation. Allowing Alabama in when they don't deserve to for a more entertaining game is the problem the 12 team playoff is supposed to fix. This being an entertaining game or not is subjective because ND fans like me are ecstatic we played a dominating game.
To talk about something other than Alabama...I don't know how anybody could have watched this game and still want to incorporate the bowls in the playoff. All games should be on campuses except for the final. The atmosphere was fantastic. There is no reason to force bowls into the playoff, they exist for no reason but to enrich the bowl committees.
I keep hearing that strength of schedule has to be looked at more. What if a team loses 5 games by under 4 pts and has a top strength of schedule. Should they get in over a team with 1 lose and a terrible strength of schedule.
The four seed routinely got blown out by the one seed, and now these same people are gonna complain that the ten seed gets crushed, as if they were somehow going to perform better. 🤷🏻♂️ I’ve got an idea- let’s expand to 16…
I must admit that the loss to OU damages the argument that we should’ve been the 12th team in. But I would point out that loss just means Bama was inconsistent based on the body of work (we beat Georgia). Indiana lost to the only good teams they played.
Saying that Indiana should not be in over a 3 loss team is like saying the NFL should put the Bengals and the Cowboys in the playoffs for a better “product”
The final record of every team Indiana played to finish 11-1 this season. FIU (4-8) Western Illinois (4-8) UCLA (5-7) Charlotte (5-7) Maryland (4-8) Northwestern (4-8) Nebraska (6-6) Washington (6-6) Michigan State (5-7) Michigan (7-5) Ohio State (10-2) Purdue (1-11)
Ole miss’s loss to Florida took a dangerous team out of the playoffs. Agreed that ole miss, Alabama, and South Carolina would have been a better game. Still those three hurt themselves with losses at the wrong time. As an Oregon fan ole miss was the team to watch out for if they made the playoffs.
At this point, if we have a playoff with 12 teams and it is becoming more like the pro postseason, then winning has to matter. In the nfl, you wouldn't keep one team out the playoffs just because you "think" someone else has a better team, or would provide a better postseason game, even though they have a worse record.
And-more of the same in the Penn State / SMU game! This disparity in the conferences is a problem -I guess seed them correctly and at least you get some better matchups. Indiana vs SMU might have been a competitive game?!
Sometimes, it's just as simple as it's not that team's night. Remember how Michigan looked when they played Georgia and lost badly? It just wasn't that team's night against that team, so there is no need to second guess. Plus, Alabama lost 3 games and nearly lost a few more games(USF was making them squirm until the 4th quarter).
Your comment section is presenting no push back for Alabama, Rich. Everyone rightly pointed out that Alabama didn't take care of business. Let 'em cry.
If you are an Alabama or any other fan of a team that failed to reach the CFP, you should be mad at yourselves, not the committee. If you lost to more than one subpar team, then add to the fact that you didn't win your conference or even get 10+ wins, you should be mad at yourselves.

They really didn’t deserve anything with that cupcake schedule besides a pat on the back. Alabama is and was better. If you don’t agree you’re in denial because we all know if Indiana and Alabama lined up against one another Alabama would dismantle Indiana.
Deserves got nothing to do with it.
@@Mlbkraven Cupcake schedule, you mean like playing Mercer in November? Either play real schools in non-con, or don't lose to the lower half in conference, and they're in. It's not that hard to understand.
@ and even with the Mercer game Alabama’s strength of schedule was still ranked much higher than Indiana’s. No conversation. Alabama played more legitimate football teams all year. The point is more critical thinking and grace should be shown to established programs with a three loss record with Alabama’s schedule than a one loss team with an unestablished program with Indiana’s record. We all know Alabama was better than Indiana. We’re not here for deserving teams. We’re here for the best.
Margin of victory for the last five National Championship games: 21, 58, 15, 28, 17, 28. Are we actually going to cry for Alabama because “unworthy” Indiana lost by 10? At least Indiana scored two touchdowns. How many TDs did Bama score against Oklahoma?
I completely hate the SEC bias and completely agree that IU should've been on over Bama, but to be fair the final of 27-17 doesn't show the full story of the game. It was 27-3 with 3 minutes to go and Notre Dame took their foot off the gas and subbed out starters which allowed Indiana to score in garbage time.
I would think Alabama fans were home thinking, "We shoulda beat Vanderbilt. And we should've have gotten curb-stomped by Oklahoma."
No they don’t. Just like Nick Saban isn’t walking through that door again. As the great orator Jim Morrison once said, “your ballroom days are over baby!”
Still lost to vandy
And Oklahoma
Alabama should have worried about taking care of Vandy and OU and they wouldn't be sitting at home thinking "We could have done better than that". Indiana might not have been the absolute best team in the playoffs, but they were deserving to be there. Alabama was not, and nothing is going to change that.
Alabama has THREE (3) losses. Win your games and you deserve to make it. The elite SEC conference got dismantled in Columbus.
So sorry you Fighting Irish haters weren't happy with the game. I am half Irish by blood and loved it. GO IRISH!
There is no way of knowing now if Alabama would have played a better game. Let it go.
Correct, Oklahoma showed the way. Under pressure Jalen Milroe can’t read defenses. Fact
Indiana under any scenario with 1 loss woukd not have been left out if the playoff. There's no way a 1 loss Big 10 team would ever be left out. So, wtf does BAMA have to do with this matchup. This is stupid., and total nonsense.
The whole reason we have a PLAYOFF is to determine an UNDISPUTED CHAMPION. Period. The first round will have mismatches, like any playoff in any other sport.
Rich, you can do better pal.
@@Ozmatazbuckshank076 it really wouldn’t if you just chose the best 12 teams instead of putting together a game with what very well could turn out to be the 7th best team in the nation against what in reality is closer to the 15th best team
Alabama has been chosen in favor of more deserving teams over and over again. The moment they don't get special treatment they think they're getting screwed.
Alabama missed making a twelve team field lol. Contrary to popular belief, the season actually still matters. When you put it in the hands of the committee you have to accept the decision of the committee with no complaints. Alabama earned where they stand
LoL. If you thought that was bad, wait until the Texas/Clemson game.
I don’t agree that Bama would have done better. They have been inconsistent and who knows what team would have turned up to play the Irish.
People acting like they’ve never seen a bad game in post season before in any other sport 😂😂. Sorry if your night was ruined but this is the first round goofs!! And if Alabama had given us better games during the regular season they would have been allowed to give us batter game tonight. Stop telling me about their big time conference, high level recruits and their legacy and start showing me on the field against teams like Vanderbilt 🤣.
He’s hating cause his wolverines are sitting at home. Go Irish ☘️ We. Don’t. Cheat. Like. You. Do.
How did they cheat? Specifically ?
Yeah.. those Catholics are nothing but class…. 😂😂😂
Imagine losing to Northern Illinois *at home* and then trying to grandstand after you beat an inept team that beat *zero ranked opponents* and couldn't play football until the final 5 minutes of the game 😂😂
15 | 0 Reigning natty champs btw 😘🏆〽️ Maybe you can visit Ann Arbor sometime if you wanna see a cfp trophy...
@343Films…you lost to IU lol
@@irishron4861 So now you agree that IU was a bad team? Funny how that works 😂😂
Ha, Alabama would have got curb stomped by ND. Finebaum said IU over Bama was correct. Stop whining cuz Indiana beat your Michigan team, Rich,!
The most deserving does not equal “the best 12 teams.”
And if Notre Dame would have beaten Alabama… these sports experts would be complaining that an 11-1 Indiana got unfairly left out. The CFP committee will never make everyone happy.
The score said 10, but it wasn’t that close
They earned their spot! Notre Dame was the better team. Alabama didn’t take care of business and that’s on them!
Notre Dame would have done the same thing to Alabama. This year’s Alabama team would not have left Notre Dame with a win.
Well, I was glad ND won as a ND fan.
As a Notre Dame fan, I’d like to thank Northern Illinois for waking them up.
Why feed this nonsense? Why does the NFL have a 14 team playoff? Obviously wildcard teams suck and didn’t play well enough to get in.
Not necessarily you had the dams that one year who had a losing record make the playoffs because their division was so trash. So the nfl has its flaws too.
At least Indiana beat the teams they were supposed to beat...Bama?
Bama's a snooze fest no one cares to see loser teams, then complain about scheduling
The BCS and 4 team CFP had complete blowouts, too. Blowouts doesn't mean the system is "wrong."
Rich, you have always been a national treasure. And I get to listen to you for free! God is good.
To have watched this game myself. The coach didn't care & looked overwhelmed!!!! & so did his team!!!!
There will always be those who will complain about 'what could have been.' If it was an 18 or 24-team playoff it would be the same. Back when the teams were decided by computer to compete in the championship same thing. We will get what we get and let's hope the future is better than worse. So be it and make it so.
Your commenters are making more sense than you are, Rich ...
Most teams will now schedule easy non conference games. Very few inter conference big matchups now.
The CFP committee did…
31-3 Penn State over SMU still in 3rd quarter,OK expert Rich please explain away this one?
Everyone is an expert after the games played.
dude. a 12 team playoff should let in someone that walked through their schedule. bama lost to vandy and Ok, so they lost the playoff before it started.
@TeamTwo77 Your little tantrum was straight outta 3rd grade. 😂
If Indiana played Bama's schedule they wouldn't have made a bowl game. Vandy would smoke this Indiana team!
@@patrickfisher4151game would’ve been at notre dame and Bama lost 3 games on the road. Same Bama team that was blown out at OU
I really love these fast reactions and thoughts!
So the 12 team CFP isn't the end all, be all . The reality of it is, there's usually only 2 really good teams every year.
Any one loss team from a power conference will get into the CFP in the future. The issue is Boise State and their strength of schedule.
We would like an update on if Alabama, Ole Miss and SCAR should be in over Tenn too?
SMU said "hold my beer". Alabama lost three games and was crushed by a lousy Oklahoma team. Bama had no right to the playoffs. Period. Go Irish
Signetti did make good on his promise to beat Michigan.
lol. Michigan had already lost 4 games at that point.
A few years from now prayerfully cfp will have parity. But there has always been a massive difference in size, talent, speed between the elite 4 or so teams and the rest, the next 4 or so teams and the rest, and so on.
Appreciate you giving props to ND, as much as it pains you Rich. Trust me, we felt that pain x 10 last year seeing the Wolverines win it all 😂
Texas .. is hungry.
I would rather give the benefit of the doubt to more conferences. It encourages talent and depth to spread around.
I just googled Cignetti in the year 2026 and his record is like 22-15. Lol.
Lol that man sure has people feathers ruffled. All because he is confident
That was really, really, really funny.
dude has never had a losing record n every team he's coached was trash before he got there
@@codydisney9959I'm no fan of bama, but it's probably bc he talked such a big game while *losing to the only two ranked teams he played.* It's not personal, and it really isn't rocket science.
@codydisney9959…arrogant is more like it, writing checks his team simply cannot cash. Big checks too. Who cares if he beats up on sad big 20 teams
To be perfectly honest we didn’t get that many really good games when it was 4 teams. Now we’re adding 8 teams who are average. I think I can remember 6-7 good games when it was the 4 team playoff and only one time when both quarterfinal games were good.
Can't wait till they go to 16 teams.
No effin way did Alabama deserve to be there over Indiana. Just stop with all that mess.
SOS has to mean something.
So does losing to 2 6 win teams
What's the record of 1-loss teams in the NFL playoffs after 1985?
Did Florida State not teach yall anything? Bama fans are gonna cry and if Bama poops against Michigan. It will be excuses like crazy.
Mr Eisen's W-2 is showing.
Not a competitive game?? Set up a 12-team playoff and expect all competitive games? Next up is 16-team playoff and people still think the games will be more competitive.
So stupid. More teams in the post season don't equal competitive games.
To Alabama: Wins matter
If SMU, Texas and OSU lose too, doesn’t it question the argument that conference championship game losers deserve to be in the CzfP?
The push back on AL is “ Don’t lose three games”
Indiana is the new Colorado but with better results, and a better coach, and better recruiting. People are mad at Indiana, for winning. So what? The best is yet to come. Go IU.
Do it like FCS. Make it a 24 team playoff. All 10 (or 9) conference champs and the rest at-large.
SEC and Alabama fans thinking they're better is hilarious. Worst Bama team in decades. You're living in the past. Don't lose 3 games.
ND woulda picked Milroe 4 times
It isn't about better games more it is who deserves to be there. Indiana lost but if they had won it wouldn't be a conversation. Allowing Alabama in when they don't deserve to for a more entertaining game is the problem the 12 team playoff is supposed to fix. This being an entertaining game or not is subjective because ND fans like me are ecstatic we played a dominating game.
Notre Dame gave their biggest weakness to LSU, Brian Kelly
I’ve got an idea- let’s expand to 16…
I must admit that the loss to OU damages the argument that we should’ve been the 12th team in. But I would point out that loss just means Bama was inconsistent based on the body of work (we beat Georgia). Indiana lost to the only good teams they played.
I enjoyed it. ☘️
Saying that Indiana should not be in over a 3 loss team is like saying the NFL should put the Bengals and the Cowboys in the playoffs for a better “product”
The final record of every team Indiana played to finish 11-1 this season.
FIU (4-8)
Western Illinois (4-8)
UCLA (5-7)
Charlotte (5-7)
Maryland (4-8)
Northwestern (4-8)
Nebraska (6-6)
Washington (6-6)
Michigan State (5-7)
Michigan (7-5)
Ohio State (10-2)
Purdue (1-11)
Ole miss’s loss to Florida took a dangerous team out of the playoffs. Agreed that ole miss, Alabama, and South Carolina would have been a better game. Still those three hurt themselves with losses at the wrong time. As an Oregon fan ole miss was the team to watch out for if they made the playoffs.
The computers knew better.
I'm sick of Alabama and the SEC and I'm happy they sat at home. Alabama sitting at home is better than a "better" Indiana vs Notre Dame game.
Rich, Bama lost (3) games to Indiana's (1), Hoosiers EARNED their ticket to the CFP, nuff said‼️👍🏼🏈
At this point, if we have a playoff with 12 teams and it is becoming more like the pro postseason, then winning has to matter.
All i want for the the college football regular season is the best matchups week to week. No more crying after that. Make the regular season mean something if you want the playoffs too. No more cupcakes.
