I absolutely love the spirit’s design. He was originally described as holding both his cap and a candle, but making him a literal flame with his white robe resembling melting wax was such a clever and fitting idea ! I’m fascinated by how he somehow manages to look small and frail like a child (those tiny hands ! 😭) and yet simultaneously an ageless, powerful being not to be messed with. Despite his unsettling appearance (and general weirdness 😆), he’s my favorite of the three ghosts and strangely the one I find the least threatening. I can’t express how much I love this particular adaptation of A Christmas Carol, which is probably the one most faithful to the book I’ve seen so far, with most of the dialogue and narration taken straight from the pages. I’m also very fond of the spooky atmosphere conveying Scrooge’s terror very effectively, while the beautiful views of snowy landscapes, busy streets, warm gatherings and food you can practically smell, all give life to Dicken’s descriptions admirably and transport us to a place and time buzzing with good old Christmas cheer.
The least threatening look might be on purpose. They get progressively more threatening. Small candle-like ghost to jolly man who “dies” followed by a dark ominous shadow that never speaks
Well, times have changed and this was a fantastic version of the great english classic "Christmas Carol from Charles Dickens". You should see the older versions! and especially with Patrick Stewart, now that was creepy and all thee others films. My god!.
Literally especially that one part when the children turned into adult and started laughing creepily, then the guardian dude was laying on the floor laughing creepily, like i like scary movies but this movie was a Another level of scary and since its an animated movie it made it scarer, first time I watched this movie, my cousin and I cried to my mom and I had nightmares about it
Saaaame, just watched it yesterday. Absolutely hated this character 😂 my coworker was telling me to look out for that part and I really just want to know WHY he does that
Damn Jim Carrey is phenomenal in this movie. Not only he played different Scrooge: the child one, the young boy one and the old one, but he also played the three spirits. This movie, pity is so underrated and he didn’t get the credit that it has to get.
Fun fact: Before this Disney film, Jim Carrey was given the option to voice Buzz Lightyear in Disney's Toy Story (1995). He declined. The role ultimately went to Tim Allen.
I never thought this particular spirit was scary but very interesting; a flame representing the past to me is pretty symbolic a golden bright flame (the warmth of a memorable and nostalgic past) and the line "Would your soul soon put out with your worldly hats the light that I give" Meaning to shut out the lessons and feeling of your past with earthly things and the small dance it does at 1:03 goes with the golden bright of the light making you pay attention or get drawn to it like a real flickering candle in a dark room which scrooge watches intently and gets more comfortable with the spirit
1:06 Lol I just love how the Spirit of Christmas Past is just so playful in his own way. To be honest, he’s my favorite character and favorite spirit in the film of A Christmas Carol. I love his personality. His kindness, his playfulness, his and candle light with his cap. This is one of my favorite Disney Christmas movies & I believe that it’s never too late or too early to celebrate Christmas !!!!! 🎄🎄🎄🎄✨✨✨✨✨✨✨💫🤍🌟👼🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🎅🏻🤶🏻❣️❤️❣️❤️
Fun fact: this isn’t CGI. Jim Carey just has a wide range of facial expressions. Also apparently one day he just walked into the studio carrying a green mask and when asked what it does he put it on and filmed the movie
I teared up when you can tell Scrooge is on the verge of tears after just seeing the place he grew up. Makes me miss my own Childhood and the friends you made along the way. God bless you
I read an illustrated edition of A Christmas Carol once, and I can honestly say Robert Zemeckis did a decent job of adapting A Christmas Carol for the screen. Even the character designs are on point!
That is because it was done in the same style as Polar Express-as realistic as possible whilst maintaining just enough cel shading to render it appealing.
I have a theory concerning Scrooge and the three spirits in this variation of the tale, not just because they're all played by the same actor: I think all three of the spirits are like mirror images of Scrooge himself, each one a piece of his soul or just representing a part of him throughout his entire existence. The Ghost of the Past appears to have a younger version of Scrooge's face, resembling himself when he was in his youth. The spirit is gentle, understanding, harmless, does not appear dangerous or malicious to Scrooge in any way when they meet and seems to talk with a sort of childlike innocence and mirth. Couple that with the fact that he looks like a candle, all symbolizing who Scrooge used to be a long time ago up until he started obsessing over money and profits; a bright young boy who cared, had hope, had dreams, had friends, a loving family and a girlfriend. The Ghost of Present is much older, of course. Looking like Scrooge when he was a handsome and joyful younger man. While the spirit is a warm-hearted and welcoming person who is likes to laugh and has a sense of humor, he can also be a bit stern and authoritative when Scrooge delivers scathing remarks and is not above hitting him on the head. And once their time is about over, the cheery and happy persona he had when he first appeared is now gone and replaced with a cold and distant, not to mention quick-to-temper, aura about him with his laugher now sounding unnerving and a bit sinister as he rapidly ages. All of this as a reminder of Scrooge when he used to be a good man until he became the bitter and greedy and selfish old miser he is now. As for the Ghost of the Future, although he doesn't speak, the spirit has shown to be malevolent in nature, sadistic and has no qualms about terrorizing Scrooge, tormenting him as he chases after him on the phantom hearse and shrinking him to mouse size without caring what happens to him. Not to mention that he's basically a shadow of darkness resembling the Grim Reaper; in essence, a monster. Everything that Scrooge will continue to be up until his death if he doesn't change his ways soon.
That’s an idea I’ve always liked about this version cause I could see all three spirits being a represent of Scrooge an I’m surprised no other version ever thought of doing something like that
Hay una teoría que yo escuché de que los tres fantasmas de la Navidad son las tres formas que toma el ángel de la guarda de scrooge para protegerlo de que el día de mañana no termine mal y como va.
🙋 This Disney Christmas Carol movie is and will always be my number one top favorite Christmas movie of all times, I just love how they done this. Truly epic it is and I also watch it on television, now that's if and when they do. Cuz today in this age, it seems like they don't play a lot of Christmas movies, cartoons or TV shows on no more the way they use to. Which is a shame. Anyway Disney had done a fantastic job with this movie

This version was the first one I’ve ever seen of A Christmas Carol. Every time I see it, I get reminded of what Christmas should really be. Not hating the other versions of course but this is the one that warms my heart. Happy Christmas everyone. It’s getting closer..🎄

The Ghost of Christmas Past, aside her/his face, I like to call it a her, looks adorable in this one. And Jim Carrey managed to play her very well. Sometimes, even male actors play female characters.
I always imagined my version of the ghost of Christmas past as a little girl with long blonde hair, a small pale blue dress, and pale blue flowers in her hair. But also have pure wisdom despite her appearance
@@katonnor I imagine the Ghost of Christmas Present looking like Santa wearing a green robe with white fur trims on the sleeves, has a Christmas wreath hat, wears candles in the wreath that slowly dim as he ages away, and of course the ghost has a magic torch and a belt with a saber but with no sword. In my own adaptation, the Present should be the only female ghost being sassy, funny, and gives Scrooge an attitude since the Present is my favorite out of three because he stands out from the two and resembles a human. As for the Ghost of Christmas Future, he’d still look like the grim reaper with skeleton hands and a pitch black robe but underneath the robe he’s a skeleton with his mouth stitched shut which explains why he can’t talk.
@@katonnor I imagine my ghost of Christmas present a black man wearing a green robe and carrying a torch as usual. It’s a sign of equality I like to put in, with a warm green light around him, and the ghost of Christmas future a black cloak as usual but with a red aura covering his appearance Blue for past, green for present, and red for future.
They’re good things about Christmas and they’re bad things about it, when you’re poor you just don’t have the money to give. The thing that sucks is when you live in a conservative family people expect you to give, because they consider it an obligation to give, to them if you don’t give you don’t get, when your poor support is what you need the most therefore making Christmas one of the most important times of the year for you.

i dont get the negative critics of this movie. I love every aspect of it. Specially how it portrays Scrooges evolution in his lifetime and how he managed to knowledge that and change. The pacing is perfect. The score is amazing too it makes me want to cry everytime. How it combines old christmas songs with other melodies. Also the creepy moments, it makes it feel more realistic
I watched it for the first time this Christmas, I really enjoyed it but the only criticism I could give it is that some of the humour feels very forced such as shrunken Scrooge and when Marley's jaw gets broken and he tries to talk.
This was a good adaptation. It had the potential to be a GREAT adaptation but I think Zemekis and crew spent too much effort to wow the audience with the special effects that they forgot to simply tell this wonderful, heartwarming tale the way Dickens wrote it. Overall, it was enjoyable.
I remember seeing the trailer of this at the age of six watching on that little TV that cars had and i specifically remember the trailer of this movie and i dont know why but i always found that ghost so unsettling and scary like the weird movements and the face, it haunted me 😭
I watch this movie every year I jave to rent it now as it hasn't been played for a few years on normal TV however its my favourite film out all dickens Carol portrayals. Jim c plays this part better them all put together

the ghost of the past seems really kinda and not that scary like the ghost of Christmas present and the future....
Truly an icon.
Curious fact is that apparently Jim Carrey also voiced the Ghost from the Past, Present and Future? I don't remember the last one speaking but heh.
Maybe he did a small amount of motion capture for future. Who knows?

A Christmas Carol written by Charles Dickens 1839. ❤️🎀🌿
I remember being scared of this ghost when I was a kid. I’m still uncomfortable, but the ghost is also funny.
i watched this movie in english on the last day of school before the holidays ,scared the living daylights out of me with the jumpscares
i dont get the negative critics of this movie.
POV: It's 4 am and you're having sleep paralysis 0:00
Why are you people harming my candle spirit friend 🥺🕯
this is giving me monster house vibes
That. Is creepy as hell. That ghost is really WIERD.
This was a good adaptation. It had the potential to be a GREAT adaptation but I think Zemekis and crew spent too much effort to wow the audience with the special effects that they forgot to simply tell this wonderful, heartwarming tale the way Dickens wrote it. Overall, it was enjoyable.
This movie felt like i was in a nightmare
We watched this In school and I kept on getting scared with all the jumpscares
1:44 to 2:28 give me chills this is a so beautiful movie
Spirit 1: Holy Spirit
Spirit 2: God (Father/Son)
Spirit 3: Death
That's my symbolism theory
It’s actually the ghost of the Christmas present, God never died nor would he have a son who wields knifes

Yeah you're probably right, they might be manifestations of himself
this movie terrified me oh my god 😭
This movie used to scare the shit out of me
I clearly forgot how dark this movie was.
Does anyone know what the song is that's playing at the two minute mark with the Ghost of Christmas Past and Scrooge are looking out of the window?
It's the soundtrack called "Ghost of Christmas past" by Alan Silvestri ruclips.net/video/XUksDnofufs/видео.html
