Absolutely stupefyingly beautiful, like a complex organism that reinvents and re-organizes itself at every instant while we are forced to watch and observe in stupor.
Everytime I listen to this song I just get stuck rewinding at 3:28. The way they switch the bassline to set-up the change at 3:55 is so effortless. Ugh, so good.
"A rare interview from 1994 with Autechre members Rob Brown and Sean Booth has surfaced, featuring the duo discussing their sound profile and why they get compared to Aphex Twin. The interview, which aired September 15, 1994 via MTV Europe’s Party Zone TV, offers a unique perspective on the early stages of IDM, the genre pioneered by Autechre and others in the early 90s. It’s also interesting to see the duo being featured on MTV as the outlet is focused on drastically different topics than it was back then. During the conversation, Autechre get asked why they get compared to Aphex Twin, to which Booth describes there isn’t much similarities to their material." “The only reason we get grouped with Aphex Twin is because we do things that are original and we still do dance music”.
Where Richard is one, Autechre is 2, They play off each others sounds. Autechre will be seen as Beethovens and people will only know this in the future when the music is better understood. Until then we get more Taylor Swift LOL Keep on huntin' AE Forever, they write the soundtracks of our lives. At least mine the last 27.
Buy the CD, this sounds so fucking mindblowing in lossless format. The voice at 6:50 sounds like it's in the room next to me, weeping tears of nitroglycerin that freeze and crack open my house
I've been trying to find something as good as autechre.. something that gives us a new dimensions of music as they do... but I could not.. they are incredible.. something is missing in other groups..
This track does my head in, most specifically two short instances; one of which was aptly pointed out on WATMM: the heavily affected vocal sample at 2:57 and the one-off phat bass kick at 8:14!! Jezus Autechre..
All the time links in the comment section make me want to skip but my conscience says "No. You're an Autechre fan? Listen to the whole track. Pretend you're in an alien ghetto."
this is my first comment in about 5 years. YES! I was hoping, when I clicked the time mark to be let to that particular moment and then just thought "this guy gets it!". I remember walking through Berlin after a night of clubbing, half remembering this track and, without being sure, anticipating that particular moment, which intensified exponentially and then when it came on it was just the most satisfying moment I've EVER had listening to music.
love the hole lp just got the 4 lp set not to pricey i only need 1 more lp &4singles then i have the discography autechre are always a good few steps past all the other people involved in the electronic music scene ?
does the artist pay you for defending them or saying whether they sound like something else or not? no, they do not. who cares what this sounds like or does not sound like. it sounds good and i currently use it in the background whilst i do research.
The ”IDM” genre tag has been around since 1993, and it was not the first subgenre name, so please stop this ”it was all electronic music back then” nonsense. It is hardly useful just lumping Autechre into the same broad category as, say, pop tunes played on a Moog - people need to distinguish between subgenres so that they can find more of the same approaches they prefer.

autechre has been around as long as richard d. james. they are the co-godfathers of a host of genres. respect is expected,
ajre82 The beats feel a bit hip hop inspired, don't ya think?
They are both graffiti writers.

I didn't see them live ... because they were in darkness. It was an intense experience.
Seeing them in February 2025!
Badass sound
One can only listen to Autechre. No one can touch it.
@AJRE, your spot on there mate,Autechre and Aphex Twin open the gate for many people into this genre of music.
A gem of a track.

People make fun of me and my Autechre collection.
They make simply fools of themselves

Sounds like hip hop/glitch. 10/10.

6:50 is the climax of the album.

I can't tell if that is the bass or the sound of my brain tissue being torn apart, or both...
Req's on!
Yes that´s nice too. Are you sure the ´bubbles´you refer to at 3:03 aren´t the uberflanged vocals I was getting at?

The atmosphere of this song is so cool. Is that snare from When the Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin?
I believe it is. Looked on whosampled and I can't believe it's not on there, sounds exactly like it
it's the e-mu drumulator rock kit snare. 80s hip hop staple.
@@Sh4d0wStR1k0r it’s still technically from when the levee breaks
that's a formant filter. generated post-oscillator, not a sample of vocals- although there are manipulated vocals later in the album. ^_^
The format filters are likely static and not generated. the param adjustments, however.... /chained-pontification
An Autechre Opus... hellz yeah

Plaid - Little People has a similar beat, in a way. It's just a whole lot more lighthearted than this.
These type of tunes have existed for around dozens of years, it was just called electronic music back then.
yeah then this new wave "electronica" shit took over
I had a dream of a place way back in the day.. it was called the 90's. In my dream and everyone was actually creative

Emily entendre I can also state an opinion, and my opinion is that your comment is pretentious.
Emily entendre unless you are a CERN scientist, youre pretentious, just kidding :P

Brain size isn't correlated to intelligence.
I think this is the worst track they've released since Cavity Job.
