    I happened to see the video now.. as told in video .. there are lot of errors..
    "Fuel and Oxygen mixture quantity should be same.."he took example of methane as fuel..
    but its wrong.. LOX has density equal to RP1 .. noth Methane..
    what LOX has equal to Methane is thermal properties, boiling point , which makes tank design easy..

      can you please provide the numbers so I can pin it here I made a mistake

  • @rules436
    @rules436 2 года назад

    Also, in open cycle engine only, we call combustion for turbopump as a gas generator,
    in closed cycle/full flow, it's called stage combustion (pre-combustion) as the main job there is to make the prop / LOX into gas, and a by-product of it is running the turbines.
    About the pump, the role of metallurgy is demonstrated well in the RD-180 well (OX Rich), and RS-25 is a workaround to get a closed cycle.

    A very detailed explanation of why rockets are the way they are. But one question about Rutherford engines, why battery pumped rocket engines can't be scalable? Is it just weight of battery or economics or any other engineering challenge??

    • @s2tenglish
      @s2tenglish  3 года назад

      RS25 engine needs about 23,260 hp just for Oxidizer system & 71,140 hp for Fuel system so total 70 + MW there is not battery system on earth that can provide that kind of power for even 10 s let alone what u need for a actual launch

    I seriously thought that the amount of information coming from this guy was amazing. His ability to convey it to where a bonehead like myself can understand it was phenomenal. I understand he is putting as much info aa he can physically speak out and still be clear. But I can not help but to think that either my brain is incredibly slow or his ability to speak was lightspeed.

    I understand the difficulties of making a turbopump but...
    but there are hundreds of companies in India making pumps
    so lets say someone calls them and say "hi, I want to pump 50 kilos of LOX per second"
    he wont find a 3-4 of companies accepting the challenge ?
    What do you think ?
    I havent tried it yet
    but i have the feeling that he would find someone

    • @s2tenglish
      @s2tenglish  Год назад +1

      50 kilos of LOX is wrong unit u need liters per min & themperature is an another issue + how will U drive it while making everything as light as possible

      @@s2tenglish A) i m sorry, i m not an expert but RPA says:
      Oxidizer mass flow rate: 53.04132 kg/s
      B) I didn't say i will design a pump
      What i said is that there are several pump calculators even online
      so what you want "in" and what you want "out" can be calculated easily
      Right ?
      So given the fact there are so many companies in India making pumps already
      water pumps ?
      oxygen pumps ?
      gasoline pumps ?
      But at least they have experience with pumps
      So if you tell them "i want a pump with THESE specifications" will they all deny to develop a pump like the one you want ?
      i m not saying that it will be cheap or expensive or i dont know
      I m asking if any company there will say "ok i ll give it a try"

    • @nikohamil538
      @nikohamil538 Год назад

      @@s2tenglish Mind you, i m not saying your video is wrong
      I agree in everything you said
      Making a pump is probably the toughest part of all
      Thats why Rocket Labs dropped the idea of making a turbopump and created an electric pump
      And its not just them
      Many small rockets do so because (i guess) to make a turbo pump for a 10, 20 or 30 kN engine is rather too expensive and too bulky and heavy and complicated
      Yes you have the battery weight but still an electric motor is much simpler than a turbine
      There are already 2-3 companies in Europe making electric pumps for smaller rocket engines
      Now if you go above 50 or 60 kN then the turbopump is one-way road
      Unless someone comes up with something new (or old and revised)
