    "seemingly simple creature"
Dude goats are some of the smartest animals I've ever interacted with. They remember people, they bond with people, they can learn tricks, they're mischievous when they're bored... Goats are wonderful.

Wonderful, they are so cute. I have learned best to buy a cashmere blend sweater they don't get fuzzies, unless you have lots of $$$$ for luxury sweater, the very expensive ones do not get fuzzies

I think you mean Kashmir (the place.) 'Cashmere' is the fibre, the winter undercoat that many goats grow, obviously more in the Himalayas. Goats were introduced into Australia in the 1800's from China/ India with the intention of creating a new cashmere industry but not continued. Those goats integrated into feral goat populations until in the 1970's, it was noted that many feral goats had a high percentage of cashmere down in their coats and a breeding program was started to increase that volume and later to increase the fineness of the fibre. Australia now has some of the best quality cashmere producing goats in the world (sometimes referred to as Merrit breed-their coats look more like sheep) and breeding stock has been exported to improve herds in Italy, America and elsewhere. Most of the world's cashmere is, however, processed in China (separating the coarse outer 'guard' hairs from the finer cashmere down.)

@@stephseckold4324 Kashmere fiber is from goats that were raised in Kashmir which is in Himalaia.

Um....what happens to the adults? The kids are just taken away from their families? And what happens to them when they are no longer "useful"?

A vS since they’re useful for their fur, I’m sure they’re good for life since goats don’t go bald
