I've recently started playing this again (thanks for getting me in the mood to play the series again). I'd forgotten all about one of this games worst features, which you that you can't start a new, fresh game without deleting your one and only save file. The only option you're given in game is to "continue" then use chapter select from level 1-1 with all your inventory and unlocks from you previous playthrough. That takes have the fun out of it.
I liked 5, not a fan of the inventory system but it had a checkpoint and meta weapon improvement system that I loved. Linear but far repeatable in a different way to the others because you could take in vastly different load outs in a sequence without needing to replay the entire game. Sheva in the suit and gold club outfit helped out there as well. A shame Chris never had decent options.
It's my guilty pleasure, well at leas in coop. Single player or playing with random johnnys is mediocre at best but coop with a friend is realy entertaining.
One of my all time favourite games! I love The co op and inventory management with the AI companion, and the gameplay is just fun overall. Not to mention replaying for collectables and working on getting unlimited ammo.
Some of the gems took several plays to find and I was really happy when I got the weapons necessary to take out the mini bosses instead of running away. Best sniper, shotgun, hand cannon and rocket launcher with infinite ammo 🤤
I wish you would remake all of these videos of yours in your drunken state.. I'd love to hear you say something like "So this Irving guy just injects himself with this virus that he knows will permanently mutate him and just thought to himself, Nah it'll be fine"..
Oh you forgot though that while playin 2player mode you can have chris and shiva complimant each other but its still a farcry from uncharteds quips between characters during silent downtimes
I'm sure others have said it, but I'll say it too - while RE5 may not be the best Resident Evil game of the series, the actual gunplay itself is some of the tightest I have ever experienced in its genre. The combat has an amazing flow, with almost no fat left to trim. Everything ties into this gameplay loop, even the inventory system. Items bound to nine directional slots allows for instant melee-reloads and i-frame combines. You can see what I'm talking about if you look up high-level Mercenaries videos, where the gameplay of RE5 is tested to the extreme. Also... I don't agree with the higher difficulties being a breeze, getting through this game on Professional mode is extremely challenging.
I love how your willing to look at your own reviews and rethink your previous reviews. Also, has anyone played the Nintendo remakes. I proudly proclaim myself a Resident Evil nerd, and although its been a while, I liked them. Thoughts?
This game, R. E. 5 in particular, hilds a special place with me. It was the last Resident Evil game me and a very good friend of mine played and beat before he died.
This game was an amazing couch coop experience back in the day along with Army of Two. I never tried it on single player because I feel it would never have been the same experience.
While I agree that RE should be a solo experience, me and my best friend in highschool co-oped this game and it was one of the best times ever. We had communication down and both loved the RE series since the beginning that many things didn't need to be said and we both just had a ton of fun with it. I should mention too that we lived in the country, didn't have xbox live and cherished co-op games when they were available.
Resi 5 was my first Resident Evil game since RE2 on the PS1. Me and a mate rented it and had a blast smashing through the co-op campaign. I reckon they could have changed the title of the game and it would've been much better received because it wasn't really a conventional Resident Evil game
I loved this game. It was basically just an improved, more polished re4, and i was completely fine with that. I loved this game just as much as i did re4, which says a lot. It's a HELL of a lot better than the trash that was re6. I also really enjoyed the co-op 2 player mode. Me and a friend of mine went through this game many times in co-op and had a blast. Even in single player mode though, Sheva is a vast improvement over Ashley. Just give her health and either a pistol or a sniper rifle to carry and she's great to have with you. She would routinely save my ass in tight spots by sniping or healing me or whatever. She's also a good pack mule for stuff you want but don't have the room to carry yourself.
As a massive fan of this series from its start on PSX I can say that 5 is among my absolute favorite. It's polarizing for a lot of people and they all have fair points, it's just such a fun game. Mostly because a buddy and I have repeatedly played through it starting on the 360, PS3, PS4 and lately Switch. For some reason he and I just never get tired of it, we've played through it at least once a year every year since it's release. We'll change it up, do runs with certain weapons only, time restrictions and whatnot. I just think it gets a lot of undeserved hate. It's obviously a huge step away from the horror aspect but it's still (in my opinion) a really fun game to just enjoy for what it is. And as far as irving is concerned, I've always been convinced he's a downy.
I loved this game though. The multiplayer Co-Op and mercenaries mode were the real highlights. I played through half the game with some random stranger on matchmaking, it was fun as hell. I'm still friends with that dude 12 years later lol. It's my favorite RE game behind RE:2 Remake and RE4... mainly because of Mercenaries mode and some of the cool level designs.
Honestly one of my favorite RE games, I love it more than 4, most cause the action and story with Wesker is just badass. I liked Wesker a lot so thats probably why I like the game so much. Not as scary as 4 though so thats a miss.
I still loved this one. Gun combinations with different players, like working with a player who likes to use snipers and machine guns while I use shotgun and magnum my preferred anyway.
I noticed you did a retrospective for pretty much every single Resident Evil game except for Operation Raccoon City. Do you plan to do a retrospective on that?
Man! When I heard your voice at the start of this video I thought I had clicked on a lesser critic than the Critical Drinker! I clicked back to your previous analysis of a Resident Evil game and reexamined the thumbnail! You sound mellow and relaxed in this video. I guess all of the years of alcoholism have changed your delivery over the years! Anyway, maybe try having an Irish Coffee once in a while, instead of whiskey neat and add a few years to your life! ;)
I remember the first time I played through RE5 and was floored by the Jill reveal, only cuz I saw it coming from miles away and couldn't believe they went through with it. I would have been happier hearing she was a super soldier clone or something.
I have every weapon maxed out, at least 20 of every gem and every achievement except for the ogre using the mounted guns on the hardest difficulty. My friend and I used to take turns beating the crap out of Wesker with the melee combos. Good memories of this game 🎮
I’m surprised you didn’t address the prototype build of RE5. From the first trailer waaaay back in 2005 (I believe it was then, Chris looking up after the crows disperse) and zombie like enemies to screenshots from that build. I guess there isn’t a lot to say about it in comparison to RE4’s.
Chris wasn't missing... he was in the Gym the entire time! It is funny that Sheva's AI is kinda decent on the 360.... it just doesn't work anywhere else. On a side note..... modders .... WHERE IS MY SCOTT STEINER Chris MOD? Big Poppa Pump needs to put Wesker into a Steiner Recliner!
This is one of my favourite Re games if not one of my favourite Co Op games alongside GoW and CoD Zombies, it has so much replayability and the mercenaries is great. Single player can be rough, esp on harder difficulties cause Sheva is... Sheva lol. The ruins and military section, like re4 can be a bit bland but still, its truly an amazing game
Re5 is my favorite and first resident evil game tbh. I've completely mastered it. It feels like they finally got the formula perfect for what they always wanted. Which makes sense since capcom orriginally wanted the series to be a over the shoulder third person with coop. Of course some of the complaints on this game make sense, but they could also be turned towards other resident evil games. Like how resident evil 4 is also littered with gold. As to shevas ai being annoying, i have 4 older brothers. So i never noticed.
I believe some unstated reasoning for why Chris is as muscled as he was is due to Wesker. In CODE: Veronica he has his ASS HANDED TO HIM and can’t do squat against Wesker. While he’s not going to inject himself with a virus he still had to be more physically capable and I can see using steroids to increase his muscle growth to take blows from Wesker without leaving him a bag of bones. His muscled look relaxes in 6 (still buff just not as much) and excluding that horrific excuse in 7...he looks to be about the same in 8 compared to his 6 version.
It took me 11 years to beat this game. I kept getting too bored with it, and hadn't picked it back up until this year. And it was a chore to get through.
Ooooo!! I love the Onimusha series. I'd love to see you do some videos on those. . I'm at a disadvantage here, because while I can see what you're saying, I just never got into the series until 4&5. I tried but the static camera and clunky controls killed them for me. I did enjoy watching other people play. . I did on occasion find 5 to be suspenseful though. Definitely creepy. And I did not have the same success as you in mowing down crowds even when playing with a friend. So the crowds I did find quite overwhelming. . Are you going to review Revelations 1&2?
Man, your style was widely different before drinker, I'm glad you found a new voice that makes your channel feel different, that's all I'll comment for today, I'll go away now
The first time I played this game many years ago I played it by myself and felt meh with a lot of it, especially the final two chapters. What I rly liked was that the origins of the TVirus was explored and fighting Wesker was fun. Last week I played this cooperatively with my brother-in-law and it was one of the most fun I've ever had with games. This game is meant to be played with someone else. Shiva AI is too terrible to play by yourself
I'm probably the only person that loves this game it helped me get into the resident evil series I tried the very first one and yeah scared the shit out of me but also not sure why but I could never get used to the older resident evil tank controls this game was yes less scary but it helped me transition into a franchise I now love to bits lol
There's a recently released mod for pc. That's all i'm gonna say, the mod basically fixes every issue you have with the game. It's called Night terror, for example there're additional lines of dialogues exchange between Sheva and Chris, more robust enemies you don't expect to see in early levels, the map is completly redone with new scripts changing how you would proceed normally and much more enemies, higher difficulty, soundtrack redone to serve a more horror ambient.. etc etc there's too much to list here. It's worth getting Re5 again, really it makes the game a 100x better.
Resident Evil 5 is a fantastic game, enjoyable still today. The Jill DLCs were even better than the main game. RE is no longer a Zombie game it once was. Capcom goes all over the place with this title.
Game feels like a comedy. Chris is this hulking monstrosity. Knocking over 10 ton boulders and @#$% while getting touched and dropping to his knees and begging for help like a baby.

I loved this game. I played it one million times!!
It's my guilty pleasure, well at leas in coop. Single player or playing with random johnnys is mediocre at best but coop with a friend is realy entertaining.
My friends and I loved the 2 player mode in this game. We spent a weekend and beat the game a couple of times.
This is one of my favourite games of all time. Besides the boulder smashing in the volcano I fricken loved every second of it so much fun.
@@ComancheWarrior63 absolutely 👍🏻 its all good fun
Those was the times, when the Drinker did yet to start his journey through the wiskey and booze xD
He was still drunk, just average people drunk. He probably only got halfway through that bottle of Jack
I wish you would remake all of these videos of yours in your drunken state.. I'd love to hear you say something like "So this Irving guy just injects himself with this virus that he knows will permanently mutate him and just thought to himself, Nah it'll be fine"..
Probably my second favourite RE game
Oh you forgot though that while playin 2player mode you can have chris and shiva complimant each other but its still a farcry from uncharteds quips between characters during silent downtimes
Me and my cousin used to play this game non stop back in the day ..
Probably my favourite RE game just for that reason ...
Man you evolved throu the years! The moment you start speaking in this one i checked if i clicked right video 😃 have a great day man 🙂
Just found this.
Yo, thanks Drinker.
You got an awesome channel.
My friend and I beat this game on every difficulty in 1 day. It was an absolute blast once you master the controls and map knowledge.
Yeah i bet
I was when I saw this was coming out, it is by far the most hyped resident evil ever, Chris Redfield made a comeback and Jill wooooo
This is my favorite game of the series personally but I respect your opinion
Never played it but watching xcal and DRJ playthrough this is one of the most entertaining things I've ever watched. It was hilarious
Everything for me since RE 5 felt like I was with one game, but imagine it’s another. I enjoyed it if I wasn’t thinking about Resident Evil.
Probably my favorite RE it’s just iconic to me for many reasons
This game is right up there with Metal Gear Solid 3 for me. So many good memories with friends.
It's funny to hear how the Drinker became more drunk as time went by.. lol
My favorite part of this series has been the creative way of calling people dumb for not seeing the games' twists coming.
"Whoops! Getting a bit political there. Let's get back on topic."
I'm so glad The Drinker got rid of his inhibitions since then. =D
The mercenaries, the mini game that unlocks when you beat the story mode was the best! I put more time into that than the main game.
I played this game coop with friends. It was a blast. Especially the Survival Game mode!
I've never played R5 solo, so I can't talk about that.
Anyway, maybe try having an Irish Coffee once in a while, instead of whiskey neat and add a few years to your life! ;)
Actually I absolutely love re5. My favorite after re1 remaster and re2 og. Never bored playing it over and over.
Yo... im a HUGE fan and dint know this ? Im in the top 15 in the world for Resident evil 5 speedrunning. Never knew you were a RE fan!
I remember the first time I played through RE5 and was floored by the Jill reveal, only cuz I saw it coming from miles away and couldn't believe they went through with it. I would have been happier hearing she was a super soldier clone or something.
It really was the worst plot twist in video gaming history. Everyone knew it was her hahah
I have every weapon maxed out, at least 20 of every gem and every achievement except for the ogre using the mounted guns on the hardest difficulty. My friend and I used to take turns beating the crap out of Wesker with the melee combos. Good memories of this game 🎮
RE5 was OK, RE6 SUCKED
Takes a special kind of suck assery to nearly kill a series
I didn't notice anything wrong with the PS4 a.i.
My problem with both 5 and 6 is that they took the story too seriously and weren’t as self aware as 4. I still enjoyed those games though.
Your old videos are quite different than your new ones. I really liked RE5. Grown to like the final boss too.
The voice acting.....same cheesyness you love
its crazy to hear how her sounds now compared to before lol
It took me 11 years to beat this game. I kept getting too bored with it, and hadn't picked it back up until this year. And it was a chore to get through.
I got a feeling that this guy will be one of the biggest movie critic someday... call it a hunch
Jesus listen to how friendly you sounded back in the day!
RE5 was my first resident evil game and I kind of loved it
another game i sunk many hrs into to complete 100%. it was epic. That nuke boss fight at the bomber area is absolutely hectic.
My friend and I played this game and it was so much fun! I still prefer RE4, though. It’s the best in the series.
The one thing that put me off from coming back to this game was the inability to run+gun - having to stand still when firing was too annoying.
Welcome to Resdient Evil
@@InternetTAB re6, re7 and the remakes fix the problem.
I thought the co-op was a blast, especially on-line co-op. I have a good friend that lives on the other side of the country and we had a lot of fun playing this one online together.
Enemies more frightening? Have they have they really?
RE5 was amazing couch co-op. 10/10
Played this offline with my brother.. after main story had also had great fun in the other modes.. We had great fun at the time.. even if it wasn't traditional RE.. great Co-op (or at least my memory of it)
Chris got a new codename: mr dictionary, cause he got definition...
chad redfield
I was hoping that C.D. was going to point out the fact that the money system in this game is totally pointless since there's no Merchant around.
Is it just me or was re5 actually alot better than people say it is
Firstly lots of fun guns
Co op was a laugh when drunk
And infinite weapons rocked
I played this game with my best friend. Once all the coop tricks are learned, this game becomes the best (not one of) coop game ever existed, especially in merc mode.
This is the game I have beat the most in my life and come the closest to 100%ing
The only achievement I didn't get is the ogre with the mounted guns on the hardest difficulty
Why do I wish the Drinker to remake these videos with his more drunk voice?
