Lighthouses of Skagen | Travel Denmark | Fern + Forest

Here’s some impressions of the three lighthouses in Skagen, the northernmost town in Denmark. First, there’s the Grey Lighthouse (Det Grå Fyr), which once was the tallest lighthouse in Denmark and now houses a migratory bird centre. 2 km down the road is the White Lighthouse (Det Hvide Fyr), an octagonal tower and the first lighthouse in Denmark to be built of brick. And the third one is Vippefyret, a lever light which is one of Denmark’s earliest lighthouses (although the current one is a faithful copy). Lying at the northernmost top of Jutland, where the North Sea and the Baltic Sea meet, the seas around Skagen can be turbulent, so the lighthouses were much needed.
Dies sind ein paar Impressionen von den drei Leuchttürmen in Skagen, der nördlichsten Stadt Dänemarks. Zuerst seht ihr den Grauen Turm (Det Grå Fyr), einst der höchste Leuchtturm in Dänemark und heute ein Zugvögel-Infozentrum. 2 km weiter südlich steht der Weiße Turm (Det Hvide Fyr), ein achteckiger Turm und der erste aus Ziegelsteinen gebaute Leuchtturm Dänemarks. Das dritte Leuchtfeuer ist Vippefyret, ein Wippfeuer und eines der ersten Leuchtfeuer in Dänemark (bzw. ein originalgetreuer Nachbau). An der Nordspitze Jütlands treffen Nord- und Ostsee aufeinander, daher ist die See oft rau und die Leuchttürme waren höchst willkommene Seezeichen.
