This helped me have more confidence in exposing for the highlights and allowing the shadows to be underexposed. The low noise characteristics are so useful for this. I am adapting to this from my Nikon Z7 which behaves very differently, but I love the results! Thanks for the video!
I love my Q2 Monochrom. The images it produces are sublime. The camera has made me into a Leica fanboy. I agree with you that seeing and composing in B&W is different, and I also no longer, or rarely, convert color images to monochrome. Thanks for sharing!
I picked up my Q2M about two months ago, and my favorite feature is the incredible sharpness and resolution. I had no idea about the touch/focus/release feature! Can’t wait to try that out, thank you! 🌅📷🤩
Congratulations on your new camera! I’m so glad that my video was helpful for you! That touch/focus/release feature is so useful. It might take a bit getting used to, but once you get how it works it’s very easy, especially for shooting macro, handheld too! 😎
Love this camera. The files are so sharp. Little hint is it’s possible to shoot at 1/2000th in mechanical shutter mode without high speed sync! It’s due to the leaf shutter. Throw a red filter on and you can shoot at ISO 100, f/1.7, 1/2000th during the the brightness times of the day and use flash on or off camera
That was an interesting video. Thank you. I did notice one thing: Rock n Roll camera straps come with two 3/4" dia. leather washers to protect the body of the camera from the steel attachment rings.
Great that more people are beginning to appreciate this camera despite its whopping price tag. It is, arguably, the finest compact the world has yet seen. It delivers image resolution and detail comparable to large format film cameras of yesteryear but in files which can be shot hand-held at f8 even in fairly low light. there is no doubt the DNG files are fecund and reward being pushed hard in processing software. The sensor is much less sensitive to highlight blow out than the M246. It handles the lighter tones much better than that camera or the original M mono ever did.
Hi, thanks for the great and informative video. I also use the Leica Q2 Monochrom and am just thrilled about the image quality this compact camera offers. I think Leica's choice of the 28mm, f1.7 Summilux is perfect for the Q series. A terrific imaging performance and this is now already in the third generation with the Q3. On the Leica Q2 Monochrom I like the excellent viewfinder, the macro mode and the menus (I have previously used other cameras from Sony, Nikon and Canon, among others) now I have switched completely to Leica and regret this step in any case. Many greetings
Thank you so much for watching and your comments! The Q2M is such a fabulous camera that's really easy to use. I love the Q series cameras for traveling because they are lightweight and multifunctional. I can't wait to try the Q3! 😄
My experience and practice do not lend themselves to a predominantly B&W workflow; my Q2 produces monochrome images very nicely. But for those whose art focuses on B&W images, I can think of no better camera/lens combination that the Q2M. Thank you for such a thoughtful, intelligent and tasteful presentation.
Thank you ! You have pretty much covered everything, from lines/contrast/framing to exposing for the highlights. The files do come out flat and, initially, that can feel very disappointing. They look dull. Lightroom or similar solves that. I have the original Q. It's nice to use, like a point and shoot, but my M upbringing always drags me to my M10/M's or M2/3. But, you really did cover it all ! 🤓
Thank you for watching and the nice comments as always! I do miss my Q Titanium, but I got rid of it when Covid started as I stopped travelling completely. Trying out the Q2M made me want it again. Such a nice camera ☺️
@@NoctiGirl Be strong Sister Noctigirl ! Covid19 had the opposite effect. I acquired more. As travelling starts up again I promise to photograph more and acquire less. 🙃
Hahaha me on the other hand have been browsing a lot but almost had the crazy thought of giving up photography because I had nowhere to go! I need to go out and shoot more. I am happiest when I am shooting and creating 😊
@@NoctiGirl Agreed. Well please don't give up. Do what you enjoy. It's good therapy. Work is distracting but necessary. Photography adds something special, then and later, for any trip (excluding the hallucinatory ones, which I don't recommend anyway).
Unfortunately I didn’t… I got rid of my Q last year because I wasn’t shooting much during the pandemic. Needless to say I really regretted it. Trying out the Q2M reminded me how fun that camera was 🥲 but I think color converted B&W images wouldn’t be as sharp as images shot directly with monochrom cameras because monochrom cameras don’t have the additional color filters which could cause some noise blurring.
I’d rather own my XT4. I have Acros where I see everything in black-and-white or monochrome. But if I want I can always edit in color. The presets are built-in, so I can change it on the fly. It only affects the jpegs. I get the best of both worlds. Also the auto focus is faster and more accurate for street photography. I don’t need a 40 megapixel camera first Street. Now on the other hand for nature, I’m looking forward to the XT5 and a much higher resolution hopefully. 🖖
@@NoctiGirl out of camera shows hillside detail and edited throws them into shadow. Unless that was what you were going for. It seemed to be the opposite of what you were saying in your video to protect your hilights.

I’m wondering if you made any large format prints while using this camera. If so, how do the look compared to like a darkroom print?
I have not done that comparison but great suggestion! This would be interesting to see on paper as opposed to on screen! Thanks!
be sure to make it to the snow sometime with the monochrome, great video!!
Thanks! Yup I definitely need to go back 😊

I have been shooting colour (static subjects and on tripod of course) with Q2M with Red, green and blue filter for the hell of it, it's fun. :)
That sounds fun! 😊

I always end up picking this Q2M over the M10M for my road trips. My easy way to get high quality B&W pictures.
Definitely, it’s so nice and easy! One of my favorite travel cameras. I also love the macro mode!
Great video! Someday I intend to give this camera a try.

Did you shoot the video with this camera as well?
No... this video was shot in color...
Did you get a chance to shoot the Q vs. Q2M? Wondering how much difference there is when converting Q to BW.

Good info and nice shots, new subscriber here! I look forward to watch your channel grow, good luck.

The range of tones
Put an orange filter on mine= great contrast and protects the lens

great channel, can you do some portraits with the q2
Thank you!
As much as I love the camera I loved those shorts more.
