Interesting. I wonder as a stringed instrument player about the ability to play on these instruments what's been laid down by reed and horn players. I've been immersing myself in Chet Baker recently and wondering about the possibility of getting to the heart of the tune with a plucked instrument; in that case mando, not banjo. But this raises the question once again for me. Can we approach it? Equal it? Surpass it? Transcend it? with something plucked...
This is insane 😂 How do you memorize all this complicated notes and sometimes weird progressions... It's not a melody. Not heart driven but mind driven. Would be impossible to me and you have my full respect 😊
ShamefulBoner lots of practice with a metronome! I generally play single string stuff with 3 fingers, in a thumb-index-thumb-middle pattern. Practice that right hand pattern on each string/with scales and you'll be on your way!
Nice, I’m a banjo teacher in Chicago, I have a 15 year old student and we are working on this tune. Nice job learning the solo.
OMG LIKE SUFJAN STEVENS>>>????
Wow, excellent stuff dude
SpacemanSam13 thanks man!

Pretty awesome man. Bringing jazz back to its roots. Do you play gigs on banjo?
Keegan Fike whenever I can!
Thats pretty awesome. Solo/duo stuff or like full quartet gigs?
Amazing. I’ve been playing bass a long time. Single notes. Your single notes are heavenly.

Same as anything else! Slowly, and one note at a time!
Oh gawd, fucking amazing. Do you have any idea how hard the tune is to play?
This sounds like Django Reinhardt
Man how do you get your fingers so limber?
Dont really like banjo but that is sweet
😮😮😮🍾
What's your tuning string on this? Just curious. Super awesome stuff
Ryan O'Neil thanks! It's tuned to open G, GDGBD
Yeah. I probably won’t ever learn that one. :)
I guess whoever started jazz banjo must have decieded to get creative and use a banjo for jazz!
Get outta here 😳
What!?!!
Can you give me any insight on how to get a right hand like that?
