I'm curious why air band in receive only on this radio. Air band transceivers are sold on the open market. I assume them to be legal to own. Am I missing something?

Have you used it for this purpose? Looks like it scans too slow to catch air traffic conversations, but I've only used a manual dial to tune.

I have used it just a few times. First time was while walking in a park near Greenville SC. There is 3 local airports that I can pick up. Just let it roll while i walked. Did not have my phone to look up channels at the time. And yes, it is slow.

Will any Boefeng - or any competitor like this - also receive local AM news stations ? Or does "full AM/FM" mean full Airband ?

To my knowledge, most will NOT be able to listen to AM radio station transmissions when stock. And, most will only pick up part of the airband range.

Don`t you need a special antena?
