- This video shows how to easily and accurately measure and cut stair skirts. Well designed and installed stair skirts provide a great finished look and amplify the beauty of your stair tread installation against your stairwell walls. Measuring and capturing your stair skirt dimensions is by far the most important step of adding new stair skirts to your stairwell.
Capturing and transferring your stair skirt measurements can be very complex and prone to inaccurate measurements, lumber waste, and frustrating rebuilds.
Consequently, this episode shows you how to get it right the first time with perfect dimensions and measurement transfers to your skirt boards, so you don’t waste money buying more lumber and redoing the skirts.

How much stair skirt should show? From stair nose to top of stair skirt? Thanks

As I explained in my video (3:40 to 3:53), I captured this edge by laying a 1 X 4 MDF Board on top of the stair noses. A 1 X 4 board is 3 ½ inches wide. Consequently, this distance is 3 ½ inches.
