I was so happy to see Beach Music! The first line of that book is unforgettable. Pat Conroy is one of my favorites. After I read Beach Music I started reading all of his work! He writes about very difficult but honest family relationships. His description and stories of the low country is so realistic and beautiful! I love that Beach Music is such a sweeping story that includes the south, the Vietnam war, and Italy. I hope you will enjoy it! Also, Anthony Bourdain! 💖I am still heartbroken over his loss. I watched him every Sunday night for years, living vicariously through his travels.

Beautiful copy of the Hobbit. Very jealous! So glad you found Night of the Living Rez for a good price. Hope you love it as much as I did. The Bourdain is great on audio.
So many great finds! I loved Kitchen Confidential, Night of the Living Rez, and The Good Lord Bird. I'm hoping to get to Strange Flowers and Brooklyn at some point.
Awesome book haul. Those poetry books have such great covers! I found The Library Book fascinating. It's terrible to think someone may have started the fire on purpose. It's also amazing that I didn't hear about this tragic event at the time, but it was a timing thing with another huge event which the book explains. Enjoy your lovely new books.
So many treasures, Kim! What a magnificent haul! The John Banville memoir! Wow! (I’m leaving for Dublin tomorrow…) I know you’ll enjoy all these beautiful books.
@@MIDDLEoftheBookMARCH and I agree, they have to be in great condition or it isn’t a good deal! It’s worth rummaging through all of them to find the ones in beautiful condition. It’s like a treasure hunt.
Many interesting books you found there! Tóibín's Brooklyn I've wanted to read for some time now, and I believe he has written one called "Long Island" too, yes😊
A wonderful haul Kim! It sounds like you use the same excuses I do for acquiring/reacquiring books...it kind of depresses me to find my favorite books in pristine condition that have obviously never been touched, so i rescue them! But what's better than buying books?...Finding free boxes of books in front of the book store from their rejects...the things I have found there!..my favorite find of all time..Lonesome Dove. I was digging and my mom held it up, Id heard it won the Pulitzer so it went with us! I read it first, then she did and we went on to obsess over it for the rest of her life...to be honest, it's the only "western " that I've enjoyed...it doesn't belong in a category and Larry McMurray was a magician. As for your slipcased Hobbit book, I'm not going to bother with the words jealous or envy, but I would've used my last $10 in the world for that!😮
@@cindys4722 Lonesome Dove is glorious. I feel the same way about it. Haven’t stopped thinking about it for years. I have quite the McMurtry collection. 🤓
I can't believe it but you have my copy/edition of The Hobbit! I bought it decades ago along with The Lord of the Rings edition which has a red cover with an elfin looking design in shiny gold, blue, and green that is bound as a single book instead of it being broken up into three books. I must've gotten out of reading The Hobbit by that point because its in great condition, but I'd read LoTR so much that I broke the spine. Of course, this was before I knew about book collecting. I just wanted copies of the novels that would stay with me through my lifetime instead of falling apart like my previous versions. Love these copies. Also, I love the covers on the poetry books you picked up.
Great haul Kim... Im with you on movie covers. Seems like "normal" covera look more like movie covers these days. I'd have brought home just about everione of those.
I’m so excited about Information Desk, I haven’t heard of it before and now just checked out the audio version from the library! I’m 1987, during my internship at The Met, part of our responsibility was covering the information desk. One of my most memorable stories is overhearing a patron asking my cohort where they would find Cleopatra’s Needle? He was stumped and humorously replied “In Cleopatra’s Sewing Box perhaps?” Luckily, I intervened, knowing it was the ancient Egyptian obelisk behind the museum. I had actually learned about it in science class as a case of environmental pollution degradation, and not in Art History class. And this is a perfect poetry addition to the Arts reading this month!
Hi Kim, I should read Brooklyn and Long Island. I’m from Brooklyn and my partner is from Long Island well via India.😊 But seriously, I’ve heard about them on other creators channels and they sound amazing. The beachcombing book sounds amazing and I never heard of it before. I really enjoyed “the library book“ by Susan Orlean. it was a perfect nonfiction book with a good story and it’s about books and library and people and oh my. I love your earrings by the way. Aloha friend.
" but that's not what we're talking about Is it? we are talking about a book haul..." Whenever you said this I. Cracked. Up. I don't think there's one of us that could not relate! There is something special about finding books at a great thrifted price that feeds something within us. I was dropping off a book at the library a couple of days ago and as always have to check the dollar table. And what did I find but Liz Moore's Book The God of the Woods for $1. I was walking on air when I found that. What an interesting and varied selection of books. I see hours of reading enjoyment ahead of you.❤
My books had overflowed my shelves even before my favorite book sale of the year. A very heavy and full reusable grocery bag of books, dvds, and/or cds was $5! Sure, it was the second weekend of the sale and yes, the next day EVERYTHING was free but I’d waited long enough. At less than 30 cents each I feel like I stole 35 books. Obviously I didn’t expect NYT best sellers on every table but I hauled some of my favorites (Circling the Sun and West with the Night) that I give to others along with books that I’d never buy at full price. Oddly there were several boxes of brand new Biography of X and another title that I’ve since forgotten. Do you think B & N that has a store in the same town could’ve donated those?
I always called them Hebrides but it is actually short e short i long e. It only took me 40 years. Readers and our pronunciation problems. The midwife book had some pretty sad parts but it was good.
