I absolutely LOVE buying books. It’s a separate hobby from reading 😁 I probably have more books on my shelves that I haven’t read verses what I’ve actually read. But it’s really nice to be able to pick something up that I’m in the mood to read, rather than not having a choice! My mood reading is a great excuse 😂
For Victober I read The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins and The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. I enjoyed both. Gabriel Betteredge is a delightful character. Thank-you for the video - I too enjoy a good library sale.
Ohhh, thank you. This is a reminder that I STILL haven’t read Joan Didion’s The year of magical Thinking, so that is what I will definitely read for nonfiction November, (which comes around quicker every year 😮) I do enjoy nonfiction and always promise myself to participate in November but somehow the 30 days just fly by without me having done so.
"Winters coming, I sound like Game of Thrones" 😂Game of Thrones popped in my head too. I've never heard of the "Read what's on your shelf" project. Will have to look that up. Oddly, my new focus on what books to read next is to finish reading my physical tbr. I only have something like 5 books to read and am just finishing one now and will read one of the non-fictions for November.
My daughter and I are going to buy second hand books this afternoon ^^ Love the sticker and the sweater ! Yes, I read for Victober : Anthony Trollope (Framley parsonage and Miss MacKenzie), Charles Dickens (Oliver Twist) and Wilkie Collins (The woman in white). My least favourite was Oliver Twist, but I loved the others. I have 7 non fiction books on my shelves, I'll give them a try next month. Have a great week !
I have several non fiction books I will be reading in November. Three that I definitely plan to read are Jon Meacham's Jefferson along with Founding Brothers by Ellis and a biography of Dickens. All of these books have been sitting on my shelves. Thanks again for another interesting video.
Don’t feel guilty. I love to buy books and also shop charity sales and my friends of the library sale shelf, Pango books “mostly”. Books need love too.
_Oooooooo, East of Eden_ is one of my favorite Amrican novels. (I like Leslie Jones, and have heard her talk about her book on late night talk shows.) I listen to audiobooks, quite a lot ... 🎉
I'm currently in a period where I am reading political biographies and American histories, so I hope to read a couple next month. At this point, I am reading Chernow's Alexander Hamilton. I'm also reading Dracula again, as well as the cozy fantasy Bookshops and Bonedust.
Planning on doing the NonFicNov w Beyond the Fallout this will cover Read what you own as well. :>)) I love a 2fer. Buying books brings me a lot of joy as well AND I just found, where have I been, Bookshop and IndieBound so I can support my local bookshops. yay!
Of course buying books is fun! I just picked up 30 books (!) at my local library sale last week to add to my stack of unread books that I already own not to mention my inventory of e-books. At my advanced age, I know I will never live long enough to read them all. So what, I can at least try, right?
I plan to read two non-fiction books in November: Taste (recommended by you), and Can't we talk about something more pleasant (recommended by Heidi). Years ago I decided to only buy books that I want to reread (and the rest I get from my library). This had to do with moving around a lot (countries and continents), and you know how stressful (and expensive) that is😉!
I am 71 years old and have bought books for years, and my shelves prove it. This past year I have been practicing read what you own. and I still have a few hundred books to read. yikes! Anyhow, it has been difficult, not buying books and I do admit that I have purchased two or three e-books this year. And still, I have tons and tons of wonderful books to read in the future. So will I start buying books again? At my age? Probably. Oh, and I’m reading The Old Curiosity Shop for Victober. I have read all of Dickens except one left. Then what do I do? Oh yeah, get the audiobooks.
I tried to read all nonfiction last November and it did not work for me. I love nonfiction, but I need to mix it in with fiction. So I plan to read a biography of Thomas Cromwell and maybe one other NF book if I can fit it in. I am finishing up Victober with a NF book about Queen Victoria so I feel like I got a jump on November already.
Oh man, I love thrifting books or buying Indie but I have told myself (with a stern face/voice😂) that I am on a book buying ban until Christmas. I think I will have to buy my next bookclub book b/c I can't find a library copy in any format that I could get in time for our mtg. I am trying to read from my shelves first. I did allow myself to get a cheap copy with a cool cover of Frankenstein for spooky season. I'm so glad I did as I'm really enjoying it so far.
I love buying books, but I do worry people would criticize, because there are times I go two or three times a week to the used bookstore near me and I will do a book haul each time. I know there are people out there who think we don't read them, and I know I shouldn't pay attention, but they're in the back of mind. This bookstore is within walking distance so it's easy for me to go there on a weekly basis. Reading is really my only hobby, though I do try to get into other things like adult coloring, Puzzles, and I have tried Diamond Painting, but reading and buying books is the one thing that I always prioritize. For Non-fiction November, I'm planning on reading Rubicon by Tom Holland, Robin Williams by Ziggy Watson (There are so many on him), and America is in the Heart: A Personal History by: Carlos Bulosan.
@@jackiesliterarycorner you should have no worries! Who cares??? You’re enjoying yourself right? I think we believe that people are judging us more than they really are. Most of the time they don’t care. And they probably appreciate your business. 🥰
@@MIDDLEoftheBookMARCH You're probably right. I still do book hauls, because I love it, and use it in a positive way. I turn it into a motivation to keep reading and challenging myself. I also like how Greg from Supposedly Fun looks at it. He sees certain books as library builders. I wish I could do something like his book haul revisits, but I don't remember when I bought each of my books.😂
I don’t follow prompts at least not now. Reading from my shelves is what happens between BookTube Prize rounds. I want nearly all my books to be shelved vertically instead of the overflow semi randomly stacked and in the way gathering dust. Shelf space is ~280 spaces so excuse me while I read/listen.
Vanity fair is not for me. I tried it and only made it to 30 pages. But east of Eden is one book that has been on my radar for quite a while. I kind of know the premise cause of a miniseries back in the 70s or 80s but I’ve never read the book. I love band books too. Aloha friend.
@@JanetReading I have bookcases everywhere. Large and small. However I don’t have much more wall space so I may have to shelve books on the tops of the bookcases. 😂
