- This fast nifty fifty was released in 1973 and quickly became one of my favorite lenses. The Minolta Rokkor 50mm f1.4 not only shines in image quality, but especially the build quality is outstanding.
Whenever I buy a new lens I like to compare it to another lens to see which one performs better. In this case I picked a Pentax-M 50mm f1.4 to compare it with.
All images and video's were taken with the exact same camera settings. The camera used in this video is a full-frame Sony A7III
Very clear that the Minolta PG is an older and better lens than the Pentax.
Our dear friend, very good👍
Thank you very much.
Have a nice Wednesday 🥰
dont change which lens on left or right during video its confusing
Nice review of minolta lens❤
I constantly think about buying this lens, but I don’t like the character of its bokeh at all(
The bokeh maybe isn't the most spectacular, but I love this lens for its build quality and color rendering. This lens is a pleasure to use
Anyone know the best resting aperature to leave these lenses on when not in use? One of my Sears 55mm 1.4 Rokkors started flaking on me and I only used it 5 times in my house. What changed in 4 months? You might need a neutral density filter to do all the 1.4 experiments on the Minolta, but close up narrow field exposures can give you some magical backgrounds without depending on round balls of light. Try some tungsten stuff.
Good question about the 'resting aperture', I don't know what's best, but I always try to store my lenses stopped down.
I once had a lot of trouble getting a working aperture on a Domiplan lens, but ever since I stored it at f22 it always works fine.
These days I've been thinking about getting an ND filter indeed. Normally it's always dark and cloudy in the Netherlands, but so far this summer has been very bright with a lot of sunshine :)
Not sure why, but the audio cuts out after the intro
scooped one up in wonderful condition for $22usd today in tokyo thanks to your recommendation. thank you!
That's great! Enjoy your lens
Hello, Thank you for this video. I have a question, what kind of lens adapter did you use to connect this lens to your A7III ? thank you in advance for your answer. best regards
I use a MD-Nex adapter for this. K&F are usually good price/quality adapters.
this is a serious test, thanks man
Thank you somuch :)
Love my Minolta 😍
We love minolta
You wouldn't be too upset to own either of those lenses, they're both pretty good. Love the look of your locality as always, such a beautiful location. I've yet to put any Minolta lenses in my collection - haven't got round to getting a mount adapter - not that that's much of an excuse - guess one day I'll see a lens that I fancy, and then I'll get the adaptor.
Cheers, they're both great lenses indeed, but it's the build-quality of the Minolta that's outstanding and makes me like it a lot. These older Minolta lenses are great, the more modern ones not so much.
@@ohjajohh Yeah, I would generally be looking for the older lenses so I'd probably have avoided the newer ones anyway. I definitely like that 1.4 you have - maybe one day I'll add one to the collection.
I've been having fun shooting real film recently, it's been quite a while since I'd done that, and it brings back lots of happy memories - video coming whenever I get round to it.......
@@GrumpyTim Nice, I'm looking forward to the video
