Hikaru has to avoid debris in a city turned on it's side with gravity turned 90 degrees the wrong way (in one case he has to smash through a walkway and tank the damage) match angles to get to her, keep track of his relative altitude in a tighter space and cushion her in the mecha hand with enough time left to decelerate before they reach the engine block. And even though he utterly annihilates the fighter in the final impact, he DOES save them both. TL;DR - it's the equivalent of reaching out to save someone from falling off the side of a carrier deck AND stick the wire-trap landing at the same time!

Satelight, Big West, and Kawamori himself *just recently* noticed the imports of Macross items to countries like USA, so they *just recently* begin to subtitle blurays in English. Sadly, the only product to have that right now is Macross Delta--which is widely acclaimed by old fans to be the worst in the series, easily beating 7 out of the park.
Macross Scrambled Valkyrie for the SNES is worth playing. Difficult game but it's so much fun. I'm enjoying it so much. There is the Overtech Edition romhack which adds a Casual difficulty level and unlocks a stage select option.

Zero is anything but trash...I consider it the perfect prequel to the original Macross. Frontier and Delta? Not as good as the originals, but regardless have a worthy spot amongst the Macross franchise.

They replaced everyone who were on Frontier with AKB0048 staff--who has no prior experience to Macross at all--with the sole exception being Shoji Kawamori himself of course. The result? Dancing girls can stop laser bullets and bring down mechas, lack of Itano Circus, and apparently the valkyries don't need to transform out of Fighter mode anymore to move in unbelievable ways previously only achieved by Gerwalk and Battroid--and of course they're attributing such amazing lack of animation care to "the wind".
This song + Project Wingman PW.MKII with AOA limiter is the most Macross thing you'll ever play, besides Armored Core
