The irony is that right after defeating Annie's argument, he then undermines his own thesis. Instead of letting the students group up and learn on their own, he then proceeds to do the opposite and teach them to think like him, just like Annie wanted.
But, of course, that's the point. He doesn't have any actual stance, he just likes to argue.

Try arguing with a die-hard fan of a game you hate. see how long the arguement goes on. They don't usually huff and leave the room in embarassment. When people have no respect for proper etiquette, an arguement quickly becomes one side making sure the other cannot speak and claiming victory by doing so.

A defendant is always innocent until proven guilty. The prosecution tries to prove guilt. As defense, all you need to do is poke holes in the prosecutions story (unless you are fighting to determine a mens rea, or criminals motivation/state of mind, which either lessens or harshens the charge). There was a case where a woman was found dead with (i believe) over 300 bruises. The prosecution said that since she was found dead in her home, she lived with her boyfriend, and she had over (i believe) 300 bruises, it must have been her boyfriend. Defense started poking holes in the theory, saying that the autopsy showed a drug in her system that can induce seizures, an expert testified that those bruises are consistent with a seizure, and the boyfriend was let free.

You see, if the students aren't 'learning' then you're not teaching properly. If they cannot retain the information given to them (which, for the most part, isn't done so easily if you just tell them to read something they're not interested in) then you aren't doing your job as a teacher. What he is doing there in the video by the end of it is showing, illustrating, and explaining. Drawing a visual representation, while verbally explaining the concept in a way to get the idea through the students heads.
In other words, You tell me. Would you remember the lesson better if I just told you 'You let them argue with themselves until you win.' Or would you remember it better if given examples, a more lengthy explanation, and perhaps even a drawn illustration for visual purposes?
And then let's remember that not everyone is the same and many people learn differently. So it is best to hire a teacher that can do ALL of these things, rather than just one, so that you better teach a wider range of students properly.

It's a bit of a Circular Argument that he uses, as she wants him to teach the class and not break into groups and after confusing the issue with their rapid back and forth he's like 'Yes I wanted to break into groups and you disagreed with me so you are wrong' when the argument is actually about if they should break into groups.
To be clear this is the path their argument took "Break into groups" -> "Is that the best use of our time? The value of having you here..." (Note, he cuts in at this point but so she's never actually able to state her full argument. Because she has never got her full premise out we have to assume what it is.) -> "My value is to teach you how to learn." (Note this is not actually his premise. His premise is that they should break into groups and this statement doesn't actually mean anything one way or the other as an argument for or against groups.) -> "You are telling us we should teach our selves." (She's still trying to argue against just breaking into groups) -> "You aren't going to learn if I tell you how to think." (Again, not really an argument about group learning. Just a way to get her to say her next line.) -> "If you tell us what you think, then we'll learn that" (Again she's trying to argue that he teach and not just do group learning.) -> "I think you should break into groups, but you failed to learn that so your argument is invalid" (Finally a comment regarding the actual argument of if they should break into groups or not and notice he's just using the premise as his argument.)
Imagine if you and I were arguing about if most people liked chocolate chip cookies or not and my final winning argument was "I don't like chocolate chip cookies, and so what you just said was invalid"... but as you can see without all the clever masking that he used in the scene it just doesn't make sense as a winning argument. But with enough clever masking suddenly I've made you sound like someone trying to force everyone to eat chocolate chip cookies even if they don't like them when that was never your actual premise. Your actual premise may have been something as simple as "We'll have fewer leftovers if we buy chocolate chip cookies because most people like those."

I'm guessing the way the lesson would go is that, as prosecutors draw a circle around the truth and decide that everything outside it is a lie, prosecutors can/will eventually argue themselves into disproving the truth as they've set it, which wins your argument for you. You'll see it in Jeff and Annie's argument in this scene -- Annie decided on the definition of "teaching" and his role as a teacher and her role as a student as she thinks should apply, and Jeff simply won by getting her to agree that, if that's how she defines the roles and the praxis of those roles, she's failed in her own role by failing to perform her role of student (in this case, by getting into groups). Therefore, if she has failed to be a student, how can she accuse him of failing to be a teacher if she will not be a student and allow him to teach?

As a follow up, the brilliance of this argument is that, actually, Jeff's "sit with the textbook in groups" method isn't the most engaging or effective method of teaching at all. Just because, even by Annie's own definition she has failed to be a good student doesn't mean that Jeff was at all a good teacher with a bad student, since the nature of Annie's conduct as a student doesn't actually cancel out the nature of Jeff's conduct. That is, just because Annie was a bad student doesn't mean Jeff wasn't also a bad teacher! Two parties can both hold blame, and just because one is wrong doesn't mean the other is right. Had Annie taken a moment to recognise this, she could have had the perfect counter. Instead, she allowed him to goad her into winning his argument for him.

I’ve always sucked at arguing so I tried to think about how I could not look like an idiot arguing. Then I started to start picking at others arguments and breaking their own ideas before even presenting mine. So, this makes 2 things happen. Either 1, I prove them wrong, or 2, If my own thought process was wrong I’d admit it and boom! I realize something I didn’t! That’s the whole point of arguing, to decide either one point or the other, and my new way to argue does that! An argument isn’t who’s right at this point, it’s devolved to whoever can convince the other, even if what they’re arguing for is wrong. But if you use the truth and only the truth when picking apart an argument that’s made off of bias, then both you and the person you’re arguing with will either see if their point is right or wrong. And you present your own argument (if you think that your own is right, this doesn’t work at convincing people of something that is wrong) then there’s no seams to pick at and lose the argument!
And hey! It’s basically the same thing here!

Forget not having a degree, you can see the reason jeff actually lasted as a lawyer for as long as he did:
he’s so good at winning arguments the actual law wasn’t needed to be used most of the time,
I assume he was found out when eventually someone caught him not knowing a basic law in court but if he did he’d basically be Harvey from suits

This scene is pure gold... It's almost like a paradox biting its tail more and more often. It shows that logic alone can't guide to something meaningful unless you consider "actual, physical" things. Annie and Jeff argue about how to teach and both their theories, after they argue, are in a sense "demolished". Annie loses logically because she is tricked by logics, while Jeff loses because, despite his specious reasoning, at the end of the arguement he starts teaching, therefore contradicting what he proved. In a way, this is similar to the proof for God's existence used by many philosophers, such as Descartes. This theory was later criticized by Kant in the same way: there's a "leap" between the plane of logic to the plane of reality... Dan Harmon and his co-workers are exceptional writers indeed!

My usual technique for getting people to argue against themselves is to accuse them of being closed minded then asking them to prove they're not by telling me what it would take to prove them wrong. Then sit back and watch them construct their own arguments against themselves. Regardless, it's not about being right. It's about being accurate. If you are only concerned about accuracy, you'll never lose an argument because you'll automatically adopt the most accurate stance even if that means you have to change your mind. Unfortunately, in Law, it's not about what's accurate, or what's right, or what's legal ... it's about getting someone to agree with you.
