I attended a workshop years ago and I recall the statement being made that the two leading causes of death to women in colonial America were childbirth and infections from burns from open hearth cooking.

Childbirth has likely killed more women and girls in human history than war has killed soldiers. It’s like a war women have to wage against life and death during times of both war and peace. Still kills today, unfortunately.

Why would any woman want to get married. Even today marriage is nothing but STRESS and AGGREVATION for women. The Bible says "a MAN who finds a wife, finds a GOOD thing"...Notice it doesn't or NEVER says a WOMAN who finds a husband finds a GOOD thing. Marriage mainly benefit dudes...especially these days. I'm so happy I'm DIVORCED. My life is so much EASIER and so much BETTER.

@@candicefrost4561 really? A divorce woman doing better than me in terms of relationship. My girlfriend and I have each other for the past 4 years. Im not a handsome man and she is even taller than me but she accepted me for who I am. In return I loved her with all my heart. Im a very lucky one because shes not woke like a ton of you out there. Shes not demanding and keen on woman power bullshit even though she is a lot smarter and much more capable than I am. Relationship is like a trade. I will offer you what I have but you gotta also have to offer youreself. A person who wants something without giving a thing is a narcisist asshole.

Even though the gender roles were generally not separate and equal, I am glad this video did not say that there were no gender roles in the 18th c. Originally, all roles in the family (gender, age, etc.) were separate and equal; the movement away from this was the rise of crime and war.

Do you have any books or anything else like that that i could use to learn different skills or trades a woman would have done in the 18th century?

Love the history. I don’t know if it’s fair to say women “accepted” this status as being invisible under the law upon marriage, though...I think “reluctantly acquiesced because they had to worry about other things and were told repeatedly that it didn’t matter or that it was impossible to change” is more like it. 😅

A colonial man brings land into the family and the wife doesn't own something she did not earn.
A modern man brings land into the family and the modern woman takes half of something she did not earn.
Modern men just acquiesce to this or they think it impossible to change.

Women work too. They bring wealth as well to the family.

My mother earns more money than my father as a product of having received higher education, so under your statement she should actually own a larger amount of the land (their home) that they both own. Are you arguing against women owning land, people who earn less owning land or non-working people owning land. If that’s the case then why should the concept of a will exist? Rather shouldn’t everything be passed down to the child who in the eyes of the government worked the hardest within their parents life? Better yet pass it down to the working class, that way the people at the bottom can gain something for the work that they do in keeping this nation on their backs. The point being that you hadn’t thought that far ahead, because your statement is structured like a 4chan tweencels manifesto. Your so hyper fixated on the disempowerment of women that your own criticism has very prevalent underlying flaws within it.

@@cassiopeiathew7406 I am not arguing against women owning land at all. I am merely remarking that women were factually speaking, excluded from the degree of independence and choice-making that their husbands enjoyed. I think you may have missed my point.

Man denies wisdom because wisdom dwells in the woman's body where life is created and born. For centuries they have enslaved us. Still spiritually. Many woman do know their spirit because if their created church and state.
