    It's a shame there aren't more views here. I thought this was very well presented, considering the subject matter.
    Good job, mate.

    Aside from all the information and learning, the one thing I find the most amazing is the fact he made most of the video in a single shot, not much editing needed! You're great, definitively subscribing!

    No problem, it was a fun challenge writing, filming, and editing a video in under 24 hours.
    Thanks for all the great programming you guys produce. Your channel is one of two that I use as a template for developing my stage presence and delivery. (Not something they really teach you as a physicist. :)

    Glad you enjoyed it, I was pleasantly surprised when Hank reblogged it. The way I see it, no matter how careful you are with researching shows, mistakes will slip through the cracks. Great thing about RUclips is that a correction is only a comment away.

    Thanks for the video. When I first watched the Scishow video I was happy with the subject and thought it to be one of their best vids up until the mistakes on gravity.
    Such a gross mistake (at least, from my view...) almost made me give up on the show. How certain can I be about other videos with such mistakes? I'm glad they had the good sense to own up to their error and link such a precise correction.

    Ultimately General relativity is holding up pretty well with respect to the tests we've thrown at it.There are some anomalies like dark matter and dark energy. In the case of dark matter, physicists are pretty sure that the observations are explained by some kind of particle, and not a problem with the theory of gravity. I'm sure Einsteins theory will break down at some energy scale, all theories do, but I don't think anyone knows what that scale is.

  • @TheGentlemanPhysicis

    The issue was that his quantum stuff was immediately testable and that's a must for a Nobel. Special relativity was harder to test in a lab (I don't think clocks were that good back then), and I believe general relativity came after his Nobel.

    I like the demonstration where someone puts his/her fist on a cushion or rubber mat and rolls a ball across the depression made. In that case, the person is demonstrating the distortion of space-time caused by gravity without actually using gravity like you said earlier. Using gravity to explain gravity is like defining a word by using the word that you are trying to define lol.

  • @TheGentlemanPhysicis

    That is definitely one of the classics. I sometimes wonder who the first to come up with it was.

    I love how respectful you are in your explanation. I was definitely going to call you out on the misquote, but I feel like you earned back your nerd points in the rest of the video. I hope so see more stuff from you in the future. :)

    Others obviously disagree but I personally think you did well and were entertaining, you were engaging and presented the errors and information in a thought out easy to understand way. It definitely wasn't boring but you aren't Hank, still well put and I can't complain except about small things that make you seem amateurish (proper lighting ect ect) I don't understand where SuperAlphasomethingsomething was coming from with failing to entertain.

  • @TheGentlemanPhysicis

    I think that is something else, but I would need to look it up. Inflation doesn't actually change the speed of light, it changes how fast space itself is expanding.

    Thanks for the kind review :) I actually managed to get my hands on a lighting rig, but I could pick it up in time for this video :P My more recent ones have much better lighting.

    Well lots of things get lost when you're trying to distribute science knowledge to the masses. You want to make it easier to understand, approachable and informative and oh yeah under 10 minutes. The good thing is that Hank has acknowledged it and even promoted TheGentlemanPhysics on his tumblr. I'm just grateful there's some dialogue going on across my tumblrs and youtube subscriptions!

    BTW, I also notice some mistakes in crashcourse biology:
    Bacteria have a unique chromosome. Of course, they also can TRANSFER plasmids, but they aren't the main source of their genetic material.
    The other thing is that the main difference between Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria is the number of bilipid layers. Gram positive have a cell wall surrounding a membrane layer, while negatives ones has 2 layers surrounding the wall (inner and outer layer).
    Am I wrong?

    Given an intense enough light, multiphoton interactions will allow low energy photons to excite an electron. It's just much less likely to occur.

  • @SSGranor
    @SSGranor 11 лет назад

    It pretty much can't be higher than the Planck scale (although it could certainly be much lower), since GR tends to get grumpy when the stress-energy tensor gets all quantumy. But, that's really not that much of a restriction.

  • @Jesusisyhwh
    @Jesusisyhwh 11 лет назад

    The funny thing is, Einstein's photons were a resurrection of Newton's corpuscles of light. In the 19th century, scientists found that light behaved as a wave. So, they rejected Newton's corpuscles of light. Until Einstein showed that light does indeed travel in little packets.

  • @TheGentlemanPhysicis
    @TheGentlemanPhysicis  11 лет назад

    I haven't really read up on that stuff recently, as far as I know there is no direct evidence that the speed of light was ever different then it is now. Maybe future experiments will show it was different, but they haven't yet.

    The point of my videos is to reach out to others and get them interested in physics. If I posted a comment maybe Hank would see it, maybe a handful of others would as well. Making a video got the physics out to 2800+ people (at this time), including you.
    As for whether or not it was entertaining, what can I say? Very few people have a natural stage presence, it takes work and time. I don't know a better way of developing one, other then by practicing.
    Cheers,
    hope you stay tuned.

    the thing i hate most about how people explain gravity, is that they use our gravity to explain it...
    the bowling ball (or whatever mass)
    stretches the rubber mat (space-time)
    yet required gravity to demonstrate it...
    something is wrong here....
    how could we demonstrate gravity, in a gravity free environment!

  • @RomulessI
    @RomulessI 11 лет назад

    So technically if something was 8 billion light years away wouldn't the light have traveled much further than 8 billion light years due to this? Also, often someone says "this galaxy IS 8 billion light years away, we see it as it Was 8 billion years ago".. Isn't this not true on multiple fronts? Not only would the space in between have expanded in that time, the galaxy would be moving away quite fast so would no longer be there as we are not, as far as we know, gravitationally bound..Thoughts?

    I wouldn't go so far as to say that Einstein could be wrong, rather he described an incomplete picture. From what I gather, Einstein could be encompassed much like he did with Newton. But "wrong"? Sir, you blaspheme! lol ;)
    And never mind people calling this rude. They don't understand that any good scientist knows they aren't beyond reproach and being corrected publicly or privately is fair game as long as everything is good natured, as is the case here.

And of you are going to talk about gravity in a relativistic way (by summoning einsten ) you should include the fact that time also is part of this bending space!! ... and .. keep on doing videos!!! cheers

    when i went on vacation, and he wouldnt stop talking about "Einstein must be wrong"
    and kept assuring me, theres something missing...
    i was too drunk to even consider thinking about physics...(vacation)
    what are your thoughts on Einstein, and dark energy...
