    Thanks for watching! I hope you find these really simple ways of explaining the very complicated spelling rules for teaching Phase 5 phonics really useful, and that they make it sooooo much easier to explain the different phonics ways of spelling er, ir and ur sounds!

    How about hurt ? ur sound is in the middle and ends with t . In this why ir is not used ?

      I think sometimes difficulties occur from pronunciation and accent or dialect. In most instances, the or and ur sounds sound differently when we say them which makes choosing between these more achievable for children. But there are always exceptions! English is a complex language 😃

      ir generally makes the ir sound in the middle of words like twirl, swirl, thirst, first, a word like stir would be an exception
