    Dude, I know its not the focus of the video but I just wanna say the music in your videos are sick! 🔥That piano track especially is so catchy I literally came back to the video just to listen to it again. Really cool that you made it yourself too, very rare to see that. Awesome stuff! 👏

      very kind of you. it's all free, downloadable, and legal to reuse if you make videos etc.

    There’s also a 50mm(which I have), that is great. The external viewfinder for it has a built in bubble level that is very accurate. You can get handheld with perfectly straight lines(great for documenting unique architecture in smaller buildings etc.
    Also just saying, the 80mm is an 39mm equivalent lens, not 40mm. If that matters to anyone. Cheers

    very enjoyable video, great to hear your thoughts about this lovely camera. I would like to point out some things which you mentioned - the accuracy of the rangefinder is pretty good, the Leica rangefinders aren´t any better. just be shure to check the allignment of the rangefinder patch, focus to infinitiy and point the camera at an object at infiinity, the rangefinder patch should be perfectly sharp and show good contrast. Mine goes out of allignment pretty easily when the camera gets knocked, but you can recalibrate the rangefinder yourself without special tools, I have already done that several times with great results. The next thing is the focus scale, you mentioned it was desingned "for 90s film / 35mm". depht of field just depends on focal lenght, f-stop and focusing dinstance. Analog, digital, 35mm, large format, its all the same. the focus scale on the mamiya is just as accurate as any other focus scale if you know how to read it. I used it once when my rangefinder went out of allignment during a shoot and i was completely fine, I think i shot at f8 and f11, all pictures came up plenty sharp and with sufficient depht of field.

      Hey appreciate the comment! I will have to give realigning it a shot. I don’t feel confident shooting close up at f4. I am wondering whether my Leica rangefinders are just less likely to get knocked out of alignment? or whether it’s just that the margin for error with 6 x 7 film is tiny. Anyway, bokeh is overrated.
      So my impression was that DoF scales were based on sharpness standards in the 60s. Maybe I'm making that up since I can't readily find that online. And the Mamita 7 uses a DoF scale based on a pretty low standard of sharpness. basically if you use a depth of field calculator app you’ll find that the depth of field size changes depending on the resolution of the camera. E.g. photo.stackexchange.com/questions/64666/why-did-manufacturers-stop-including-dof-scales-on-lenses/64678
      So if you trust the scales, you will be missing out on sharpness

      @@janf-f9576 I shot some portraits with the Mamiya and the 80mm lens at f4 and the focus was spot on. My Leica rangefinder only went out of alignment after using it for 7 years. The rangefinder of the mamiya went out of alignment already after i took the camera with me on my mountainbike for the first time. I´m glad though that calibrating it is really an easy task. In my experience the mamiya rangefinder system is really precise, just as the one on the leica, but otherwise its really prown to get knocked out of alignment, i now tend to treat the camera like raw eggs. Regarding the dof-scales, I did lots of zone-focusing when shooting street with my leica and never got fooled by the accuracy of the scale, rather than by my own misconception of distances. All the best from Vienna and a happy new year!

      Thanks :) Yeah I've shot in SF a bunch too, worked in SF before the work from home life took over. Alameda and Berkeley are both awesome spots to shoot with more of that classic americana type vibe

    Does the mamiya 7ii and the mamiya 7 give the exact same image quality?

    • @atomikpi
      @atomikpi  3 года назад +1

      hi drew. yes, the lenses are exactly the same and the camera itself won't have any impact. the II has a few extra features that I didn't find useful/necessary/worth the cost. but there are some articles comparing the two if you check around.

    I got a 7II two years ago, i've looked at prices lately and they are double what i paid. I barely got a lens for it a few weeks ago so i dont even know if it works lol.

      Shoot it! It's a great camera. Cameras exist to be used. (I'm guilty of having some extras that I need to sell.)

    i feel like the camera is uncomfortably close to your face.

      You would be correct lol. Jammed the tripod in front of a table and couldn't get the camera more than a few feet from my face with a 24mm lens. Think I will just move the table next time I need to film something, still new to this
