Great review! Just transitioned from a '15 Tracer to a '20 GT. Noticed the power drop right away, but would trade it for the huge upgrade in comfort any day.
I had to come back and watch this video a second time - it was that good! I am seriously considering a GT Pro and this video answered some nagging questions I had.
Excelent review Scott as always. It is pure therapy for me. Thanks for your work. Take care out there (specially when riding with your friend and his GS 😉). You know the risks we all face when riding.
When I’m out for a spin, taking it easy, rolling through the bends, and someone blasts past me I just smile and remind myself I have “NothingToProve”. Been there, worn the tee shirt. That kid will grow up, hopefully.
Very fair review, as always. I still like my XR and can live with its imperfections. However, that being said, BMW needs to refine the bike. For the price, any bike that is 10K plus should be( in my humble opinion) damn near perfect. I've been riding and occasionally racing motorcycles for over 40 years now and coming from a no frills beginning I can tell you that today's motorcycles and tires are light years ahead of anything dreamed of back in 1978! My biggest problem with the Tiger and the Tracer is the modern-bug-like look. I simply can't get used to much of the new styling that accompanies many of the newer models. I can't help it...I'm retro! Cheers Scott!
I couldn't agree more! Well said, thank you! And yes I too can and am living with the imperfections of the XR simply because all bikes have them. All 3 of these bikes are great bikes and will make any one happy. take care, Scott
Thank you so much for the review sir, I was confused between the 900 GT and ralley pro. I have my answer now sir. Time to get my bike. Loads of love from India ❤️😊🙏
Great review Scott. I agree with you in liking the power down low, but there are some people who like to rev it up. So, you have given them the truth. I will never forget overhearing some guys complain about Ducati’s not having enough high RPM power like a multi cylinder bike. This was on a Ducati demo day and I still remember how sweet the Ducati was with a great motor. This was the 848 back in 2007 or so. Keep up the good work and I hope BMW can fix the back brake and seat plus LCD for you.👊
Interesting review. For me I like the low end torque. I love the feeling of the power pulses coming on down low, right off of the idle. The 17in front wheel on the xr vs the 19 on the triumph combined with the slightly lower fork stroke would result in the XR being a more nimble motorcycle and more planted bike on a twisty paved road at a spirited pace. If it were me I'd sort out the rear brake on the XR and keep it. Having said that, follow your heart Scott, that Triumph is a nice motorcycle, life is short.
A great comparison, thanks for sharing it. Having owned the Triumph 800XRx and the Bmw S1000XR I can tell the both were awesome machines. I bet the new Tiger is even better.
Thanks for reviewing and comparing the Tiger 900! The whine of the engine is annoying but the smooth intuitive handling makes up for it. One thing you may not have noticed on the GT is the vibration in the bars and foot pegs. After a few hour, it can lead to tingling fingers and leg fatigue. Another factor that may be important to some is a low options. The Tiger has a GT Low, which I own. The BMW also has a low version but I don't think the Tracer does. Scott, you always have great videos, full of very useful information and evaluations. Thanks!!
Thank you. Yes, I'm aware, it's just that there are so many things to say that I have to pick and choose what I say to keep the videos length down to a reasonable time. Yes, I felt the vibration but it really is no more than the 900XR and since I ride my 900XR everywhere, I guess I'm used to it. :) take care, Scott
Excellent once more, and a great resource for those in the market. Like yourself it seems, I do have a liking for torque over hp (which is what weds me to my GS), but having ridden both the XR and Tiger 900 I'd have to agree with all of the points you have made. For me, whilst the XR is a solid machine, I just felt less cramped and more comfortable on the Tiger - it was the one that I wanted to go back to. For what it's worth, I also prefer the looks. I can see your interest has been raised with this bike, so I look forward you to testing the KTM and Ducati options before you commit:-)
I watch every review, great content! Riding a '21 mt09 at the moment. Im at the end of my 20's.. probably will go for an adventure bike after 3 or 4years. I like the triumphs styling so much. Will probably go for that one.
Thanks. I had the Tiger back in 2013 for a few years. One of my most appreciated bikes ever! I imagine it would've only got better with the years. The only only thing I wanted for was a touch less weight.
What a amazing review sir. Loads of love from India. I was actually confused between the tiger 900 gt and gt pro . I have the clarity now and can pick my tiger 900 gt pro Thank you 😊😊❤️
Hi Scott. I love watching your honest reviews and look forward to your new videos. Can you please do a comparison video between the tiger gt pro and the r1250rs. Mainly, how do the compare in city riding, highway and which would be better for longer distances. I think it would make for a very informative video for people who want a tourer as well as a daily commuter.
I have the 900GT and after putting 4200 miles on it I live in sport mode. I find myself reaching for a non existent 7th gear over 80 mph. I find the engine has a low frequency vibration from 5500 rpm - 7000 rpm, then the engine really comes alive again around 6500rpm. Other than those things, it is the most comfortable motorcycle I have ever ridden. If I could do it over, I would buy it again.
Another great review, I actually own the Tiger .. about 7K km on it, really love the bike for me only 2 negative issues : seat is not that great after a 8h drive :) and I do not like the rear break but the front is awesome. I also testdrove the Tracer and the XR, for me the Tracer my expectations were not met and the XR the QuickShifter is on the low RPM not that smooth, also for my feel I leaned a bit much to the front putting some weight on my wrists ... like you say all 3 bikes are very nice bikes, but for me the Tiger is the best value for money
2022 tiger 900 GT pro, rear brake is weak. Vibrations of engine riding hard and fast in twisties can get annoying, but at lower speeds, kinda interesting.
Another great review Scott! It’s interesting you’re focusing on all these sport touring motorcycles. I get the impression you’re not enamoured with the BMW as much but remember it was a long time ago in development. I would think the next model release will have all these issues updated & improved because of the competition. A greater slice of the market pie is a companies priority & brand retaining. Perhaps even next year? Always enjoy your inputs & engineering knowledge!✅ Take care & ride safe!
And now, please compare these three bikes to the Multistrada 950s, that would be really interesting! I had the MTS 950s for one day and fell in love with its handling immediately :-) It has a very comfy seating position, wind protection works well and the supension ist superb IMHO. Thumbs down though for the engine which is very rough under 3.000 RPM and the Quickshifter, which tends to find EVERY neutral between all 6 gears :-D
And that's how you review a bike. Love the comparisons and insight along with the comparison charts and impressions of how it works on the road. Triumph owner and fanboy, but that's a bike I've thought long and hard about too.
Thank you Scott. Yea, I think that this will be my next bike but I'll take the winter to think about it cause I have a lot of money invested in the XR right now it'd be stupid for me to trade it, I'd just lose way to much money. take care, Scott
Great review thanks. The 2023 Tracer is getting a single large TFT screen and you'll be able to connect your phone to it. Ooh and it's also getting radar adaptive capability for the cruise control. I don't think they're going to bring it to the US though. 🤨 I've been pretty happy with my '22 model so far. The only thing I really dislike is the on/off throttle situation but I think that's common these days.
Very nice reviews Scott. One month ago i have booked my New f900xr and im a bit concerned with the rear break. From what i have read on different forums is something related to the oil break heating up due to the collector. Some fixed it with the weight other fixed it by changing the oil with a better one. Other dont have this problems. Hope for the Best.
Hi Scott. Great review yet again. I have a Rally Pro in green which I use 98% on road. Very plush with the longer-travel suspension, and the bigger front wheel gives me no issues when cornering. Goes and handles really well, and the build quality is solid. Only downside for me has been severe butt-ache after an hour or so in the saddle, but I’ve cured this with a ComfortAir seat pad (BLISS 😎), making it an all-day pleasure. Minor point…..I can’t recall having so many compliments on any of my previous bikes from random people on how it looks. Must be the Khaki paint / white frame / black cases combo. Cheers 👍
Hey Scott, another excellent review. I'm not a fan of the Tracer, nor of Triumphs generally, but enjoyed your thoughtful comparison none-the-less. Thanks. PS. Your XR is a handsome machine - knocks spots off of the other two in this regard IMO. Aesthetics are important to most of us if we're honest. Let's hope BMW upgrade/improve the XR in the areas you've highlighted soon. Thanks.
Hi good revue👍 sat on a tracer 9 today sadly to cramped and the dash looks awful. I have been looking at tiger 900 but am not a fan of 19 inch front wheel 17 would have been perfect if you want an offroad bike you would just buy the rally version the gt should be road only .the xr900 I sat on in dealers looked nice but is to short in the seat it felt like my wife was on my back.as a compromise i think I'm going to buy the triumph thanks for all your facts and figures 👍
Thanks for this great review. The BMW F750GS (has 850 motor) could be considered the closer BMW competitor than the BMW XR900. (And the BMW F850GS the closest BMW competitor to the Tiger 900 Rally Pro. They all have the same target market and even offer both street and more dirt oriented versions. . I considered the Tracer and BMW 750Gs and ended up buying the BMW F750GS based on comparative value about three years ago. Now with the Triumph 900 GT pro in the running, I sure like it too.
Scott , i have to agree with you the TFT on the Triumph and the BMW are so much better than the Tracer , i do not go off road so this is one of the reasons i went for the Tracer but it does need some connectivity though , love the Triumph maybe your next bike .
Yea, giving is some serious thought. Will take time to think about it over the winter, if I'll trade the XR for this but also my wife will be looking for a bike next year too...so then probably won't be able to afford a trade cause we'll have to buy her bike out right 😒
I’ve read the 2024 Tracer GT quickshifter is much improved. Other items mentioned here I think are improved. If the current iteration of the Tiger has changed, I might be more interested. I’m not looking to get another bike now (happy overall with my R1250RS) but if I want to get a lighter bike, these are likely the ones I would consider.
Great review and timing. I am looking at trading in my 1290 Superduke on one of these three plus the Honda ATAS and am having some difficulty with the choice. Leaning toward the Tiger or AT at this point, just need to be honest with myself on how much off-road ability I need.
Thanks a lot, man. I am considering the latest iteration of this. I am between this, the Tracer 7 GT, and the Suzuki 800RE. I will be using it for the city, commuting in Athens, Greece, and touring. To be honest, I am warming up to this more and more. A couple of questions. I have heard the 900 GT Pro has some issues with its quick shifter (1 and 2). Also, I have heard its service costs are higher than the other two. A brilliant review, as always. Concise, to the point, and engaging. Cheers, and safe riding.
Service costs very widely from country to country and from dealer to dealer. So I can't give that kind of information. The easiest way is to go ask your local dealer, they won't want to answer right away but press them and go to the service area and ask what is the basic cost of first service/second service...etc. take care, Scott
As always, great video, excelent analysis!.. love that bike.. I would also appreciate your analysis of the middleweight you mentioned Vstrom 650, NC750X.. also the Versys 650 (you already have a video on it) and the Tracer 7. Thanks!
I realize it’s a dated blog, but I’m going for the GT Pro in the spring and I’ve watched all these vlogs numerous times. I’ve been a dedicated mtb rider for 30 some odd years, forsaking my motorcycle roots. Let’s talk suspension for a moment. On my Fox forks when you dial back compression for more compliance you need to go the other way with your rebound and ramp it up or your forks just pack up. I could be way off base with the GT Pro’s Marrzoccis but you might check it out,
I was wondering if any one would notice and make a comment on that :) Yea, I turned one fork the wrong way but fixed it later, I don't remember which but right is always tighter/stiffer and left is always looser/less. But getting to the point, if I had to choose again between the 3 of these bikes, today I would not buy the XR, I'd take the Tiger GT Pro. ride safe, Scott
Hi Scott, I procrastinated for months between the GT & the Rally ended up with the Rally as it’s more universal & pleased with my decision. The power didn’t worry me as the mid range is so good & 120-160kph is about the maximum I would do but touring around the 100kph I got 400k’s to a tank. You do get used to the controls and buttons and after a while of riding they become second nature, & the handling in the twisties is fine I really didn’t find the 21” wheel overbearing enough to warrant having the GT. I love the screen the only real odd thing I discovered was that you can never show the odometer which seemed a bit odd to me at first but I really only ever use the tripmeters anyway which make it easier for distances & fill ups. However I did find when you first turn the ignition on the odometer does show for a couple of seconds only in the centre of the TFT screen at the top & again when you turn ignition off but that’s it for the odometer. (On my bike anyway) But couldn’t be more happier with the Triumph Rally & the $3000(aud) I saved by not buying the Pro I bought some quality protection and luggage.
Nice comprehensive comparison. I like the Triump overall of the three. Not sure about the tires for off road, probably could arrange to swap out with dealer on new bike.
Thanks Scott for another great video, You are one of the best reviewers I am currently following. After watching this material, your opinions confused me a bit. I was determined to buy a BMW XR this month but now...??? i dont know what too choose. Plesae help XR or Tiger for a everyday trip near house and one or two trips a year around the country. Best regards and safe driving
Thanks for your comparo. I considered all three of these bikes recently when buying my first ever new vehicle. I ended up buying a vee strom. I am not sure what has happened though, because it hasn't grabbed my heart like l thought it would. Perhaps its a bit like deciding to remarry after your wife dies or something, as l have been riding my BMW R1150 GS for years and like it as an overall package, but for a very stiff clutch lever and no cruise control, l love it. I just have bad arthritis in my ckutch thumb now. Quick shifters sound like a great idea for older riders. My heart is not in my new bike, and even though l have had it since April, l haven't run it in. I am just not inspired, perhaps l am past riding now at 62 (and shouldn't have got remarried!?).
G'day big Red. Age is not the barrier brother, let me assure you of that. A little time seaching of the heart is all that is required. What motorcycle TODAY really grabs you! Test ride it andc if you keep thinking about it and checking out every review on the tube, then get it. I'm 63 at the end of this year and I will be trading my 2014 Vstrom 1000 and the VFR800 for that one bike that will keep me riding until I fall off the perch, or my wife pushes me off! LOL. Wish you better miles with the next bike brother.
Thank you Big Red! Yea the V-Strom didn't more me either when I did the review of it last year, sure it's a good bike but there was nothing, no emotion, kind of like a cheap hooker, you go through the motions and she gets the job done but the next day you've already forgotten about her & looking at a different one. 😁 I'd suggest taking a Tiger 900 GT Pro for a test ride if you can, the QS is the best out there today and the riding position is square, just like sitting down in a chair, everything is square. good luck finding your next girlfriend, Scott
Great review Scott although for me the Tiger is for a different usage than the BMW F900XR or the Tracer 900 GT. The ability to go offroad comes with a trade-off which the BMW and the Yamaho do not need to compromise for. First, a larger front tire means it is not as nimble and direct when carving through the Californian canyons. Second, a cushier suspension feels good on many roads but allows more fork diving which takes away the feel for the road and can be detrimental for a sporty spirited driving style. Try to keep up with Uli's GS in the Alps on the Tiger. I'm sure you will notice the lack of torque and horsepower compared to the other two bikes. I own a F 900 XR for over a year now and I put $12k miles (19,200km) on it. Without some mandatory aftermarket parts (Wunderlich seat, SC-Project exhaust, Hornig riser), I would not have enjoyed it as much as I did. On the quick-shifter topic, I was surprised how mine has gotten better over time, even still over the last few thousand miles. In the beginning, I did not use it because it was hard to shift. Now I'm almost exclusively shifting w/o clutch from 2nd to 6th and down and loving it. The ergonomics are just the best on the BMW although the TFT display is a tick smaller than the Tiger's TFT. In your video, it seemed that the Tiger TFT has more glare than when I compare it with my BMW.
Great review and comparison between bikes. I'm looking at all 3 bikes, also looking at the Vstrom 1050xt and Ducati supersport 950 (although deep down i know it would probably be too hard to live with)
I went with the ninja over the tiger gt pro for a few reasons. The price difference in australia is ridiculous. The tiger is at least 5 grand more. I priced it with the triumph luggage and a few other bits and pieces and it would have been more than 8 grand more. Plus, i want a bike that i love the look of as well as enjoy riding. The tiger and the yamaha look very meh to me. Sure, both of those would have a more comfortable riding position for all day riding. I made the right choice for me.
A correction in one of the numbers I gave is needed: The rear suspension travel of the XR is 172mm and not 150mm as I stated in the video at 5:25.
You know what Scott? I'm going to be frank with you. I'm just here for the daydreaming, you're such a great story teller.

All 3 of these bikes are great bikes and will make any one happy.
take care,
Scott
Excellent video and review. Loved your stats and comparison.
A set of sintered pads should sort it out. Must be able to sort it out somehow. Especially if it's a standard caliper
Great review. I appreciate the objective comparison between motorcycles. Two thumbs up! :)
A great comparison, thanks for sharing it. Having owned the Triumph 800XRx and the Bmw S1000XR I can tell the both were awesome machines. I bet the new Tiger is even better.
850 XRx?
Sorry for the typo. I meant to say 800XRx
take care,
Scott
Always Perfect style of review and mostly needed content with nice visuals. Many thanks.
Thanks. I had the Tiger back in 2013 for a few years. One of my most appreciated bikes ever! I imagine it would've only got better with the years. The only only thing I wanted for was a touch less weight.
I like the chart that you present during your reviews it gives a much better comparison between the different bikes.
What a amazing review sir. Loads of love from India. I was actually confused between the tiger 900 gt and gt pro . I have the clarity now and can pick my tiger 900 gt pro Thank you 😊😊❤️
Really good review. Very good comparison. A big thumbs up.
Fantastic! Thanks for all the work you have put into this. Much appreciated
I have this exact bike. Love it. Bluetooth issues are the only complaint. The bike itself, awesome !
Great review, I've often wondered about these three bikes and how they compare 👍
Enjoying your videos! Thanks for sharing such comparisons.
Thanks for the review Scott as always top notch stay safe

I have the 900GT and after putting 4200 miles on it I live in sport mode. I find myself reaching for a non existent 7th gear over 80 mph. I find the engine has a low frequency vibration from 5500 rpm - 7000 rpm, then the engine really comes alive again around 6500rpm. Other than those things, it is the most comfortable motorcycle I have ever ridden. If I could do it over, I would buy it again.
i agree…..😅
i like the low rpm tork motors,
I have problems around the 5the neck- slipldisc too.
Thank you for that review👍
@@sliglusamelius8578 agree about rear brake, change the Metzler's with Continental bey bey vibration
Excelent video love it. The triumph looks like the winner to me and in this red color wow!
Great review, as always Scott.
And that's how you review a bike. Love the comparisons and insight along with the comparison charts and impressions of how it works on the road. Triumph owner and fanboy, but that's a bike I've thought long and hard about too.
Thank you Scott. Yea, I think that this will be my next bike but I'll take the winter to think about it cause I have a lot of money invested in the XR right now it'd be stupid for me to trade it, I'd just lose way to much money.
take care,
Scott
Appreciate this review Scott. and I think it's a beautiful bike.
Great job Scott!
Love the Triumph triple ! Playful and trusted.
Cheers 👍
Hmm...interesting to know about the seat, thank you! I'll keep that in mind when I trade in my XR for this!
Ride safe,
Scott
Great review and very informative you're a natural, thank you I really enjoyed it
Thank you so much!
Great review! Agree with your comments and observations.
A nice Bike Scott but i have ordered a Tracer GT now with a few extra bits , thanks for the reviews they have helped me a lot to make my decision .
Will take time to think about it over the winter, if I'll trade the XR for this but also my wife will be looking for a bike next year too...so then probably won't be able to afford a trade cause we'll have to buy her bike out right 😒
@@NothingToProve Yep Have to keep the Wife happy , Happy wife Happy life
Nice comparison, as usual ! Thanks
Leaning toward the Tiger or AT at this point, just need to be honest with myself on how much off-road ability I need.
a good review Scott thank you.
If 70's porn did motorcycle reviews - THIS!
Great review as ALWAYS! - Thank you!
Terrific review! Triumph is the “Rolex”of adv bikes. Glad u gave it good reviews USA
this is south kroea. i've gt pro ,nice review and nice compare. thank you
Sehr guter Vergleich der 3 Bikes. Vielen Dank dafür 👍
The easiest way is to go ask your local dealer, they won't want to answer right away but press them and go to the service area and ask what is the basic cost of first service/second service...etc.
take care,
Scott
Merci pour cette magnifique vidéo.. super clair et bien détaillée..
Merci pour ce travail remarquable.
Ma préférence va sur la triumph 🤗✌️🏍
Man I love your video. Thank you!
I could be way off base with the GT Pro’s Marrzoccis but you might check it out,
I was wondering if any one would notice and make a comment on that :)
Yea, I turned one fork the wrong way but fixed it later, I don't remember which but right is always tighter/stiffer and left is always looser/less.
But getting to the point, if I had to choose again between the 3 of these bikes, today I would not buy the XR, I'd take the Tiger GT Pro.
ride safe,
Scott
Very unique review, great job
Still staying with XR Scott- love it….
good informative reviews, thank you sir.
Thoroughly enjoy your videos! Gruß aus California.
Great review man
Thanks Scott for another great video, You are one of the best reviewers I am currently following.
I'd suggest taking a Tiger 900 GT Pro for a test ride if you can, the QS is the best out there today and the riding position is square, just like sitting down in a chair, everything is square.
good luck finding your next girlfriend,
Scott
Today is a good day. All these bikes look and work great.
The damping can be firmed up quite considerably on the Triumph in seconds, it can be as nimble as the rider is capable of.
Great review and comparison between bikes. I'm looking at all 3 bikes, also looking at the Vstrom 1050xt and Ducati supersport 950 (although deep down i know it would probably be too hard to live with)
The Tiger almost seems like a good choice for someone choosing between a bmw gs and rt. I kinda like it. 👍
I guess an XR sits right between the GS and the RT
I have the RT and the S1K . . . . . as I'm coming up to my late 60s', this has me considering loosing the S1K in favour of the 900GT.
Thank you for the great review.
