Azumah, was such an exciting fighter. That uppercut was something special. I remember watching this on tv in 1985. Almost 40 years have flashed by. I’m now 57 😳
Watching featherweights from this period, I always think of Sal Sanchez, tragically killed in 1982, who destroyed Nelson and would, I believe, have become renowned as the greatest boxer of all time, not just the greatest featherweight.
One of the best uppercuts I have ever seen. Waited to Cowdell to throw the left and countered with devastating effect. Nelson was an all time great and understandable why McGuigan avoided.
Why not? Cowdell went 15 rounds with Salvador Sanchez and held him to a split decision and Nelson was stopped by Sanchez. Cowdell had what it took to compete with Nelson he just got caught with a good shot here. Thats boxing, it happens
The shot hit him on the tip of the nose. I had a basketball bounce straight up and hit me under the nose. I passed out from the pressure put on my brain. Take your hand and tap yourself under the nose and see what I mean.
Cowdell wasn't a bum, he was caught with a perfect punch, it can happen to anyone. Also, saying Sanchez struggled with him is a bit of a stretch, Cowdell fought a great fight and definitely took some rounds but Sanchez clearly won. The judge who scored it for Cowdell was either corrupt or incompetent.
Cowdell isn't a fucking bum you twat...also , salvador beat him handedly to be honest..I watched the fight, and no way it was a split decision...also, azumah Nelson is just a damn beast..and Sanchez defeated this beast early in his career..
@@UNSTABLE111 cowdell was a great technician and very highly respected in the british boxing scene. nelson's power & speed were just too much for him, like they were for lots of other boxers.

I remember this guy always called out Barry mcwiggan and he avoided him lol , don’t blame him
No other way round
Hi, if you mean Mcguigan avoided Nelson, you're dead right. Nelson would have flattened him quicker than he flattened Cowdell.
@@ysgol3
Wee Barry would've put on a better show than Cowdell.
🤣Oh stoppit.@@hyena131
no it wasnt mcguigan avoided him why would Nelson back out a true warrior!@@gazmase6134

Didn't destroy him. Won in the 15th round when Nelson was still on the way up , only his 14th professional fight.
@@philgarrett5498 It was in the 15th that he destroyed him!
Great Uppercut. Thank you for the upload.

Pat leaned in a lot and Azuma had the answer
Nicest uppercut ever thrown
Azumah Nelson is the greatest featherweight ever.
That uppercut turned left hook destroyed Cowdell that night.
There's a Part 2 to this on here. Why? ;o))
What a punch.
Pat was a good fighter but lets be honest
he had no business being in the ring with a beast like Nelson!

@@thomasp3865 Was he ever in the top 5 Featherweights in the world? I would doubt it...
Man get DRAPE dread!!😮

I’m shocked that these Brit’s didn’t start throwing bottles into the ring after the fight like they did when Marvin Haglar destroyed Alan Minter!
Why? do you think all people are the same
Probably because unlike Minter, Pat had no truck with using racism to goad an opponent and give racist arseholes an excuse to riot.
Very good
You want some then? I'll give ya some!
Borderline decapitation.
Think it was harry gibbs, said afterward’s anyone wants two of them is greedy
Lol
Lol at your name ..prick
