    "If prep work is stopping you from starting, you just need to start." Dang that hit me! 😂
    I'm trying to work on my second comic (first one is a failure because of the lack of prep work lol), and I'm on my second month doing preparations. Finished the story outline and now struggling on writing dialogues 😖
    Thanks for the tips!

    I tend to prep way too much worldbuilding and outfits and characters but then never draw my characters enough. That's why I still even after years of coming up with a character I don't know how to draw them properly *facepalm*

      I find the off model stuff goes away after the first chapter. It helps to have someone editing that can point out when things are off model. We don't really do anything about it for online posts but fix all that stuff for the print editions.:) you can do it!

      Saphitstrue Just keep drawing. The off model will go away after a few chapters and a few times drawing the character. Just keep drawing the characters until you get them the way you want. Long to short response, just keep drawing. 😊

      Saphitstrue that's what I did, 7 years and I only finished writing my first 6 chapters just last night. I would recommend canvas tutor as a helpful app

    This channel has the most solid advice for this kind of stuff! usually I find videos like "tips for making comics" and it's the same basic stuff reused over and over again, you know what I mean? how it feels like each video just eats the throw up of the previous, and then throws THAT up for the next person to use. This advice has given me more drive, and more ideas than anything else I've found. This channel is amaze-balls, wish I had found it sooner!

    Understanding color theory throws the need for comparing color pallets out the window, but it is a good thing to give those who work well together color pallets that work together.

    • @ViridianForests
      @ViridianForests 5 лет назад +4

      Using your knowledge of color theory to come up with some really unique limited color palettes for your comic can be really cool too though :)
      Limiting the range of colors you use can really make your comic stand out from all the others the second you set eyes on it. Like if I saw a page from [Un]divine (warm, Mediterranean colors), a page from Stand Still. Stay Silent (overall cold, watercolor-like colors) and a page from Raruurien (generally faded warm, with soft cool colors) I'd probably be able to recognize them just from a glance.
      Using all the tools at your disposition can really bump up your stuff! You probably already know this though, hope I didn't come off as annoying or anything. Have a good day!

    Thanks! This was really helpful. I still can’t decide if I’m doing too much or too little prep work but I’ve decided to just go ahead and draft the first 10 pages and if I’m already struggling, go back and do more character turnarounds, world building etc. but I generally find my best ideas come when I’m already in the flow of things and working on something than just staring at a blank page not knowing what to draw🤷‍♂️

      Tori Teague I am the same Tori. I like the flow and Improv of storytelling and drawing. I tend to do much better because of it. 😄

    This is great advice. I found myself doing thumbnails while looking at what I have written out already. I want to sketch out a character height chart to show how all the characters measure up to each other.

      @Vivvy i feel like most ppl use really soft instrumentals for stuff like this. But i get what you mean (ive seen ppl use rly intense chiptoons before and it just ruined the video)

    I'm still trying to find my style.... it's constantly changing so I can't make a comic rn and also I'm not the best at world building...... and making good dialog :)

    • @WallWhisperer
      @WallWhisperer 5 лет назад

      I feel you man. My drawings/style aren't consistent from one drawing to the next, Its keeping me from making anything that resembles a finished comic. And I know you didn't ask for my opinion, but, on the topic of world building...
      (don't read if you don't care about my random opinion)
      You should definitely analyze the ERAGON book series. the world building is really well done, but still leaves a lot of the world in comfy vagueness. It seems Tolkien's success with Lord Of The Rings has author/world builders convinced they need to chronicle every moment of their world to be legit. But ERAGON really only world builds around what's important to the main plot and characters. It's a milder approach compared to Tolkien, but the parts that are included are really well flushed out. For instance, we are given a lot of info about dragon rider swords, we find out who uses them, their history, what their made from, and even meet the sword-smith. all this info is fleshed out because Eragon uses one of these and it's important to the plot. In contrast to this there is the magic sword Tinkle-death carried by a wizard. It's amazing and powerful, has a magic sharp edge and is totally clear, but beyond that we aren't told anything. It's arguably just as interesting as the dragon rider sword, but it isn't pivotal in the plot and only shows up a handful of times. Because of this info on it is scarce. There isn't info because it's not Plot important. If you build a simple world and spend your time flushing out a couple of key things the world will have a more finished feel. You don't have to world build everything. half the time you can rip stuff off from existing cultures. Culture, relevant geography, character history and the mechanics for any "otherworldly systems" like magic and *POOF* your there! After that more complex world building will only be a step away.
      (sorry, this comment turned into a ramble 😅)

    I’m not good at drawing poses very well and what poses the characters should do in each panel so that’s making me quit doing my webcomic

    • @diby1555
      @diby1555 5 лет назад +1

      I know this is late but it literally doesn't matter. Just go ahead and start, you'll get better at drawing poses as you draw more and more of your comic.
      Readers often don't even care about poses, so you will do great!

    • @notnotahuman183

      Amani Arts I would say try to draw a page full of faces to practice and spend a bit observing facial expressions in other comics that you like. I’m not sure if this is good advice since I also struggle with facial expressions and I’m a complete beginner, but that’s what I’m going to do before I start my comic.
