Carrying a gun is one right that should be exercised by as many law abiding citizens as possible but it does come with it's own issues especially when you have to use that gun in self defense. Let's talk about the things that you may have to deal with as a law abiding gun owner and concealed carrier. ATTENTION: All Firearms Shown Have A Mag Limiter In Place because of RUclips's policy on magazines. No mags shown exceed the limit placed by RUclips

#1 should be: Be prepared to WALK AWAY. If you are the type of person who can’t deescalate a conflict using your words like a grown adult, or are someone whose ego will not allow them walk away from a perceived challenge to your man/womanhood, you have no business carrying a loaded firearm in public.

@@sclancy79 being ready to die is that mindset of accepting to cross the threshold of no return, once a real life skirmish involving shots fired happens and that individual carrying a gun caught in crossfire may need to respond to the threatening human(s), thus realizing that they can be shot and probably die.

@Steve Haney , or even worse. There's a video of a man at a Walmart who stepped in to stop a mass shooting who was killed by a second shooter (mass shooter's wife). Anyone who's gone through actual active shooter training knows to beware of multiple shooters. "Be prepared to be a hero" is some of the most ignorant advice I've ever heard.

    • @SolDizZo
      @SolDizZo Год назад +3

I understand, and yet I fail to understand.
Sometimes a threat presented is one that you have to confront head on and plow through in order to get home safe.
Are you really safe with an active shooter anywhere within a mile from you? What's the real safe distance?
I don't know if I believe in the butterfly effect. I'm not even trying to play the devil's advocate here.
If the line for you is clearly drawn at your person and your immediate family, that's your prerogative.
I personally may consider the potential for extended family, friends, community members, leaders and healers, and even future friends / companions in this event.
I may consider my fellow countrymen or even my fellow man.
With how I grew up, it's surreal to come to terms with this. I held deep-seeded resentments and apathy failings, and responsibility was the last thing I wanted.
When I ultimately decided to take an Oath, I knew it would be one of many. I knew that I was going to have to be all in on responsibility. "Extreme Ownership."

    • @sclancy79
      @sclancy79 Год назад +2

@Tristan DizZo , I also took an oath. In fact, I've taken the oath several times. So with the training that's been beat into my head, unless you're the armed sentry on duty, you're supposed to "run, hide, fight" in that order. Guess when I took my oath, I took the TRAINING I've received more seriously than others.

Depends on the situation. I'm former military and former law enforcement. I have done 4 tours in Iraq and 6 years as a narcotics intervention cop. I carry every where. If I am completely alone and something goes down, if shots are not fired by the suspect what you can do is be the best eye witness. If the suspect is a credible threat then sure I will engage providing I can do so without "collateral" damage. If my family is with me then my mission is to protect them and get them away from harm.

My sidearm is primarily for protecting me, my family and perhaps a third party; however, if that third party turns out to be a mall of a hundred or more people facing a group of active shooters with rifles - man I only have a sidearm and they are likely to even have on body armor. A job like that is better suited for law enforcement. A multitude of calls generally gets police on scene in less than 10 minutes. I can't just go around playing heroics because I'm carrying a sidearm. I need to stay alive for the sake of my family, but will do whatever is in my power to safely mitigate the factor from the point of safety.
Here's a question. If the scenario is a mall of a hundred or more people facing an active shooter or even a few of them, why would there be nobody else within that entire group carrying concealed? We would be playing the numbers here.

And I hit him 2 twice in his leg and the other guy ran he was no threat, if I would of hit him in the back that’s attempted murder or even murder and no longer defense. They held my smith and Wesson for 2 years and I had to show proof of ownership and a lot of paperwork to be signed by the judge and the st.louis police department. I did no jail time due to they saw everything on a near by camera and also the guy was on probation and they even had the gun he had on him. Then they were selling 45 fmj for 2.99 for a box of 50. I took the ad with me and drove to my Kmart store. They did have that stupid sticker by the door with a picture of a gun with a bold red strip thru it. I laughed. Criminals don't read signs. So I walked in, got a buggy and walked to the sporting section. I then grabbed every box of magnum shotgun shells and all the 45 shells also. Then I walked to the register. One one was open. In front of me was a smelly dirty long haired person acting very strange. Now as for me. I stand at 7'3" tall and I'm a retired body guard from a very large company up north. Now I'm living in sunny North Florida. Also I work for a large security company as a Armed security officer. This man in front of me smelled really bad. I coughed once and he turned his head and looked at me. And I said I'm getting over the flu. Then he handed the young girl a note. I could read some of it. It said, I have a gun in my jacket and I want all the money in the drawer. I then coughed again, and he again turned to look at me. I said what, your smell really bad and it's making me cough. His partner was outside, a pretty female talking to the cop. I coughed again and he didn't turn to look at me, that is when I pulled my stainless steel colt gold cup national match 45 out of my galco shoulder holster and pointed it at his neck. I then said to him, I have a 45 pointed at your neck, slowly get down on the ground and cross your ankles. He only turned his head far enough to see the end of the slide then doing what I told him. Once he was down the girl outside took off running to a car. The young girl by the register said thank you and ran to the office in front of all the registers. Then the cop came in and was shocked. Then the manager said to me, thank you very much and said, whatever your buying I will pay for it. The cop put on some gloves and handcuffed the smelly scum, then searched him. Yes he was carrying a real looking paintball gun. But I stopped this scum from robbing my favorite store. The cop was fired because he fell hook line and sinker for his female friend. And yes the caught her walking up the road. Then the manager removed that gun sticker from the window. And I drove home happy.

I’m no Massad Ayoob but I am prior law enforcement and a former MP in the Army for what it’s worth.
I look at this “insurance” as an aftermarket 3rd party warranty on a vehicle. When you go to use it you can REST ASSURED they will try to find a million different reasons not to cover you before they try to find one reason to cover you. You can count on it.
My number one cardinal rule in CCW is this.
If you wouldn’t go there without a gun, then don’t go there with one.
Secondly, NEVER, EVER get involved in a 3rd party shooting. EVER!!! I have yet to meet one stranger in my entire 56 years of living that I would be willing to potentially spend the rest of my life in prison for if something were to go horribly wrong. Not my circus, not my monkeys!
When I do decide to carry its for one reason and one reason only; because I am too young to die and too old to take an ass beating, AND THATS IT! If I can run away from gunfire without using mine then I’ve won that gunfight. If you follow this simple strategy and adopt this attitude you will have decreased your liability by 99% and the chances you will ever be involved in a self defense shooting in the first place.

I agree with you and almost everything you said and is exactly what they teach you in CC class. Basically in CC class they teach you unless your life or the life of someone in your family is in imminent danger then NEVER draw your weapon. However, one thing I'd disagree with you about is "If you wouldn't go there without a gun, then don't go there with one". A shooting can happen anywhere; grocery store, mall, theater, doctor's office, ANYWHERE. If I could, I'd take my gun with me at all times. Especially if I've got loved ones with me.
The justice system is heavily broken and unfortunately the bad guys get more justice than the good guys these days, which only encourages more crime. And with this broken justice system a good person doing the right thing may still end up in jail or be in financial despair with court fees. The only time I would ever be involved in a 3rd party shooting is if the shooter is shooting at everyone (not just a particular person). I don't care what the freaking law says I'm going to do what I can to take out that killer.
And to the person in the comments saying CCW people are just trying to be heroes I say no, I don't care about being a hero but I wouldn't be able to sleep at night nor live with myself knowing I did nothing when I could have done something.

I have no moral obligation to protect anyone other than close friends and family, and the lack of a de jure duty to intercede does indeed mean that I can just walk away from those situations. Daniel Penny wouldn’t be facing manslaughter charges right now if he had simply walked away. In-group and out-group ethics (as well as Schmitt’s friend/enemy distinction) are applicable in such scenarios. I am not going to forfeit my own life in order to save a third party to whom I owe no loyalty, particularly if I am going to be indicted for it later. That’s not my responsibility and I don’t consider that heroism. It’s a tactically foolish decision; you are applying your own religious or moral ethics rather than sound strategy.

I think one thing that you should definitely do as a licensed carrier of a firearm is look up your state's statute on defense of property and life. Some state's are of the idea that you must first try to flee before resorting to lethal defensive action; others harbor stand your ground with no requirement to retreat. The other thing you want to check is how your state views defensive of a third party or "Good Samaritan" like coming to the aid of an elderly person being attacked etc. Knowing this and understanding it thoroughly will help you to make the right decision in that crucial moment. Once you have looked up your state statutes contact your state police or a state attorney to get clarification so that you are not misinterpreting your lawful obligations. Every state is different and it is also good to check the statutes in states that have reciprocity agreements with your issuing state. The last thing you want to do is use your firearm thinking you were justified to find that the laws of engagement were different and now you are facing murder or manslaughter charges because your valiant efforts were misaligned by the local laws.

I love the channel but I’m sorry, never say to the police after a self defense encounter, “I’ll comply, I just need to speak to an attorney…….”
Your attorney may compel you to NOT making any statements immediately.

Chances of going to prison for killing a " shooter " will most likely get you multiple charges , attorney fees , loss of job, loss of house , loss of family and a bed in prison are very high therefore insurance is absolutely a must . That said working out my salvation with fear and trembling is absolutely most Important cause gotta be ready to meet the Lord Jesus at any moment cause nobody is guaranteed tomorrow. God bless.

This is the main reason I live in Texas. There's Law here stating that at the time of you witnessing a Felony or Disturbing of the Peace, you are empowered to make an arrest, exactly as any LEO. If that entails a deadly threat, then you can use deadly force, just like any LEO. "CODE OF CRIMINAL PROCEDURE TITLE 1. CODE OF CRIMINAL PROCEDURE
    CHAPTER 14. ARREST WITHOUT WARRANT
Art. 14.01. OFFENSE WITHIN VIEW. (a) A peace officer or any other person, may, without a warrant, arrest an offender when the offense is committed in his presence or within his view, if the offense is one classed as a felony or as an offense against the public peace.
    (b) A peace officer may arrest an offender without a warrant for any offense committed in his presence or within his view."
    Stay strapped at all times.

Ive always said this and i dont think anyone else has said it but i quote, "while i support the second amendment and believe citizens should be able to freely carry, it is the citizens duty to be able to operate thier weapons proficiently" and sadly most dont..firing a weapon once a year isnt being proficient.

Make sure you check whether or not Conceal Carry, or Self-Defense, insurance is legal in your state. N.Y, where I live, prohibits us from purchasing that kid of coverage.

I’ll say this. You’re gonna go to jail for a little if your in this situation. You may be let go later on, but you’re gonna still be in there some time before you get out.

Good stuff bud. I appreciate your efforts to educate and inform people. I def agree with the moral aptitude and necessity to help protect those that cannot defend themselves. I have a very productive mentality and fortunately the ability to, my entire life has been filled with violence for others. I have village mentality as well.
And you mention taking life, but also needing the presence of mind you might be giving up your life as well, and those in your life. Difference between a lone wolf and guard dog is the lone wolf is alone leaving nothing behind, guard dogs have lives dependent on them, so may be better to let another willing engager take the lead if he's a lone wolf. I say that bc I am lone wolf, and I'll give my life before letting my buddies with families needing them. It was reason I joined army, to help others return home.
