- In the space of 24 hours on Wednesday, nearly 7000 migrants arrived on the southern Italian island of Lampedusa. That's about double the number from the same time last year. The recent arrivals have overwhelmed the small island. They are also testing the promise made by Italy's far-right prime minister Giorgia Meloni to curb illegal immigration. FRANCE 24's James Vasina has the story.

it's plausible that immigration to Europe is partly rooted in the historical legacy of European colonialism in Africa. The exploitation of African resources and the imposition of arbitrary borders and political systems have left a legacy of instability, driving them to seek refuge in Europe

Asylum when misused is an invasion. Policies should STOP and only families should be allowed in and this after careful examination of the reasons why the had to leave their country. It’s different to leave because of war and different because some EU countries are richer than the ones they come from. EU also has completely different lifestyles and values than their countries, how are they going to integrate? Or are they planning on living off of EU tax payers?

I dont know about Americans, but Europeans are definitely not sleeping on the immigration crisis. Here in Cyprus there have been ongoing protests. The real culprit (for us anyway) is our own internal government corruption, grants being accepted from the EU in exchange for housing "asylum seekers" and that money just disappearing. "Asylum seekers" live without water or electricity, struggle to hold down jobs and turn to violence and theft naturally, since most of them come from a violent culture anyway.
