  • Hello! My name is Aaron Stevens I'm a lifelong motor racing fan and petrolhead, who has always dreamed of becoming a racing driver.
I've made that dream a reality and am racing in the UK based Caterham Roadsport championship during 2022.
Welcome to my channel, The Inner Racer, where I'll be documenting my racing journey.
In this first episode, I explain why I've decided to become a racing driver, plus show you what happened during my first ever car racing weekend at the Brands Hatch circuit in England.
I hope you enjoy the video; in the comments section please let me know what racing related content you'd like me to share with you during my journey!

Do you have lots of money because I’m 17 looking to get into racing but sadly don’t have millions

      Hello, thanks for your message.
I wouldn’t say that I have lots and lots of money but in the years after I finished university I worked very hard with good jobs and had a clear goal to race cars one day.
I decided that 2022 was going to be the year I started. In all honesty, separate to the car, with everything like fuel, tyres, racewear, travel, food, trackdays, testing, a little bit of tuition, crash damage and mechanical repairs, the season cost me a low five-figure sum.
Other people spent a lot more than me.
So in reality, racing cars for real really opened my eyes to how expensive it can be.
So if you want to race cars on an amateur basis in a club championship, you don’t need to be a millionaire.
But you do need to have a plan and accept that you most likely will not see a direct financial return on the money you spend.
But the price of not following your dream may be higher!
So if racing cars one day is something you REALLY want to do, make a plan to make it happen. Work out exactly how much money you’ll need for the championship you want to race in, work hard and save, because when you start you won’t get sponsors without a track record.
In the meantime, you can have so much fun racing without having to spend tens of thousands.
Karting and sim racing are just as much fun and offer amazing (if not better) racing for a fraction of the cost!
Before racing cars this year I used to think that spending £4,000 on a sim rig was expensive. Compared to real racing it’s a bargain!
And you don’t need to spend thousands on a sim rig either, when you start get yourself a decent PC and a good wheel and seat for a few hundred pounds and you’ll be fine.
So I’d say start racing cheaply first and if racing cars is something you still want to do, make a plan and in a few years you can make it happen!

@@A_Carter You’re welcome, good luck with it all! I genuinely believe the best racing is in karting, you learn so much about racecraft and it’s so much fun 👍
