      I honestly feel as tho you should try it again W/O the metal spoon. I do think it'd make a world of difference, bc those leached metal chemicals are probably what messed it up for you. Especially if you've done the mask before!!!!

    Hi Jess! I've done the max hydration method several times. Its definitely tedious but I loved the results. I hate that I can't find the youtube channel/videos that helped me but from what I can tell, it seems you didn't get the results you hoped for because you over clarified your hair. According to the steps I followed its either you do the cherry lola treat or you use the acv rinse. Not both. Also your bentonite clay mix is also clarifying and not moisturizing. The instructions I used said to mix the clay with hot water, glycerin or honey and a bit of oil (I usually use almond, avocado, or olive.) I have 4a hair and some 4b sections but my hair is always super soft with amazing definition with that mix. As soon as I find the videos thst helped me I'll let you know just in case you ever want to revisit this. Nonetheless, I hope what I mentioned helps. Also using a metal spoon with clay could have altered things a bit.
    I hope all is well with you!

    The Max Hydration method is not supposed to be done once in order to get results. It's supposed to help you achieve hydration over a period of time, which is why your wash and go didn't look as "Juicy" as you wanted, your hair is still dry.

    • @teejaip
      @teejaip 5 лет назад +9

      That's what I was going to say too! The real method is done over a course of days/weeks and ain't nobody got time for that! Lol. I lasted 8 days and then it became waaaaay too much to do all this errday! But honestly, since I did it my hair hasn't been the same. Much drier than it used to be. Issa no for me. The Cherry Lola treatment is a nice treatment I still use from time to time though.

    • @lupe2947
      @lupe2947 5 лет назад +12

      Doing this long term causes damage. Baking soda’s pH is way too high to be putting on hair and also, keeping hair wet that long seems like it’d weaken the cuticles, leading to increased porosity/damage. The curl loosening effect is from the alkaline pH of the baking soda and may be a result of the lactic acid in the yogurt. We be doing way too much to our hair and wondering why it’s crispy. Stick to water based hair products and you’ll get maximum hydration. Don’t wait for your hair to be dried out to moisturize again. If your hair feels dry in three days, moisturize every two days. A hairstylist would never recommend doing this to your hair

    • @teejaip
      @teejaip 5 лет назад +3

      @@lupe2947 Great insight! I think that's what happened to me. Even after doing it for only 8 days (over a year ago) my hair is still very dry and brittle. Oddly enough, I even did a semi big-chop a few months afterwards and even my new growth is hydration challenged.

    • @lupe2947
      @lupe2947 5 лет назад +1

      teejaip I wanted to try it some months ago but after looking more into I said “NAH”, I remember I put baking soda in my hair once and it was a disaster. I ended up cutting it because I didn’t even want to try to fix it lol! I found what works for me is shampooing wayyyy less and being more heavy handed. I know folks say not to be heavy handed, but I found when I was applying deep conditioner, my curls would pop but when I used leave in stuff, my hair would still be dry. So one day I got mad and just slapped on a boat load of product on soaking wet hair just like I do when deep conditioning, let it air dry and to my amazement, I was moisturized😂 My hair was snow white for two hours but it was worth it

    @onlyonejess sis, I think your hair was crunchy cause the bentonite clay basically stripped out all the moisture you put in overnight.. Its for clarifying, so it essentially shouldn't be done after a deep con cause it's basically counter productive.. You feel me? It's like shampooing after deep conditioning.. Love your hair though, and you're liit 🔥

    Hey Sis! Just want to let you know that I got the 4c struggle. This treatment works with multiple uses! I used to love I. Miami where the humidity would not let me be great. This treatment is a ton of work BUT you don’t have to do the cherry Lola treatment after the first time. I think it says to do it a total of 6 or 8 treatments. I think I stopped at four treatments and my classmates were stopping me and asking what I was doing to get my curls poppin. Don’t get discouraged! It does work it just take a few times. I also see you have the red color in now too! Yay for the black gingers! Keep in mind that adds to the dryness. PS w/ the bentonite clay I added honey and had a lot mor water and it ended up keeping a lot more moisture BUT yes that step is a little drying.

    These steps are in such a weird order, i did something similar recently. I Cleansed with Shikaki?black soap, (didnt do the weird baking soda step because that loosens curls over time, in fact whenever you use baking soda you're supposed to neutralise with ACV), rhassoul (bentonite is too drying) clay mask with aloe vera and olive oil, deep conditioned. this leaves your hair super moisturised! 2 weeks later and my hair still isn't dry..Hope this helps. Just a warning: everyone is different but I did the cherry Lola treatment on my hair and my hair in the crown broke off so badly and was literally damaged. I think the PH of the baking soda interfered with my hair and I am trying to grow back that area but it is inches shorter than the majority of my hair. Just use a good shampoo if you need to cleanse your scalp and hair or clarify. That was back when I believed that shampoo was the devil due to popular belief lol. I have mainly fine hair so maybe my hair just couldn't handle? I'm not sure.
    But overall, cool video Jess

    Bentonite Clay Mask!! Yay!!! I usually put apple cider vinegar + coconut oil in it, let it sit for 45 mins to an hour. My curl pop like kernels in the microwave! Love it!
    Some people say the mask dries out their hair. I haven't had that issue yet.
    That Miss Jessie's stuff (I have the same one) did NOTHING for my hair though *shrug* It was a little flaky the next day.
    Lmbo...you are not trippin! Wash ya hair out and use your normal winter products
    My hair has been colored since April of 2018. In my opinion....every 6/7 weeks doing a protein treatment, deep conditioning EVERY time I wash, and use a leave-in + oil (you can puit a cream on top of the oil during the warm months, but the oil helps) helps my hair to stay moisturized until I wash it again.

    You gonna sleep in your deep conditioner overnight??? The next video gonna be about hydro fatigue or moisture overload. The people that do this method get results over a log period of time. It's not an overnight type of thing. Those ppl also might get hydro fatigue since they consistently have dampened hair and they don't balance the moisture and protein contents of their hair properly

    I tried the mhm 2 years ago as instructed by the website. I did the 5 or 7 day challenge(can't remember) I also did the cherry Lola treatment and I'm a 4c or should I say 4z lol.... I am still benefiting from the results... as a result of my hair being more manageable and locked in moisture my hair is longer than it has ever been even from a child( which looks about tour length and is normally about 2 inches shorter). After performing the 5-day challenge up until today I haven't done anything dramatically different to try and retain length so I believe it's the result of this treatment. I am going to do it again but I will use apple cider vinegar instead of baking soda this time because it made my scalp sensitive. And instead of the Kinky-Curly gel I will try something else because my hair was never dry the next day when I was ready to do the process over again as a result the processed part of my hair suffered from Hydral fatigue( not complaining I should of cut it of anyway). Other than that I'm completely happy I even got 1 of my cousins to try it and she also did on her child which they also agree that their hair is still benefiting.

    When I first became natural several years ago, I was having issues with dry hair and I researched a lot of things. One of the methods I read about was the Max hydration method. From what I remember it should be done over a 2 to 3-week period. For example, you would do certain steps every 2 to 3 or 3 to 5 days for about 3 weeks. I can't recall the website, but I'm pretty sure it's a method to train your hair to retain hydration for long term growth retention. Either way, your hair is always stunning!!

      I never did it because it seemed tedious. I was in school and working full time, but the people I saw on youtube had really great results. I'm sorry you didn't get the results you wanted from this treatment, but I follow you because you're not afraid to try different things with your hair. It's all trial and error in the end, right?

    Yes I use the clay once a year, usually around Christmas/New-years. Once you put the clay in, leave it alone until you wash it out. Idk why I never tried the hydration method. Might be cuz I’m scared of moisture overload lol deep conditioning weekly to bi weekly(when I’m lazy) then adding a protein treatment every two months works for my curls, and I dare not try to fix things that aren’t broken in my hair routine. Lol
    Your hair looks really pretty. Lol the clay is more like a hair detox, and I don’t shampoo the clay out. Instead I just rinse really good then I deep condition afterwards. The clay is meant to clean and detox your hair and scalp, so you washed twice and that might be why your ends were a little crunchy.
    I think doing all those steps were too much. Yes the max hydration is mainly for people who can’t keep the moisture in their hair and want to clump their curls.

    I am actually doing all the steps today for the 2nd time. I followed twin goddesses method here on YT and got great results. Super hydration, moisture, curls separated and coiled from root to tip and hair that absorbs products really well.
    1) I added a ripe banana, ripe avocado, acv, black strap molasses and raw honey with the yogurt, baking soda and aminos to my cherry lola mix. 2) I deep conditioned with a silicone free moisturizing dc. 3) I used a rhassoul clay wash instead of a mask the first time with avj, olive oil and distilled water in an applicator bottle. This is prob more hydrating than the mask.
    Also you’re supposed to use a botanical gel thats more natural. I did not do a wash n go so I just did a twist out and it was great.

    With the high pH of baking soda and bentonite, I dunno if this should be done on colour-treated hair. I expected dryness, and you said it was crispy. It might be better in a different order if you wanted to try again (lol!), with the lower pH stuff last.

    I’ve found this treatment is a way of life, not a one-off conditioning treatment. You won’t see results after one day because it’s about getting fine 4c healthy for a lifetime. It’s about changing the way you treat your hair over all and changing behaviors, not buying more products.
    After a week of doing it, my delicate, thin, easily damaged 4c hair thrives. The original founder Ms DeeKay has fine 4c hair that couldnt hold moisture or tolerate all the heavy butters and creams on the market. I always go to the source of a movement to see if the person who created it has hair like mine. Ms DeeKay was the only person talking about the problems and care of really thin 4c hair. Most of the natural hair care industry is not talking to us…lol.
    Seems like this beautiful sister has a head full of thick luscious hair with no problems with growth or moisture. For those of us with really fine 4c hair that doesn’t grow or hold moisture, it works when nothing else has.
    The principles behind it have affected the way I treat my hair overall…it’s a complete reversal of how we think about 4c hair care. My dermatologist recommended it to me because he said, no one ever talks about hydrating fragile 4c hair. The fact that there are only a couple of completely water based conditioners on the market is proof of that. There’s no money to be made from telling people to hydrate and stop buying all the black hair care products that essentially strip your hair of moisture, so you have to keep adding more and more products. Max hydration changes your way of thinking. It made me focus on hydrating my hair, not sculpting or trying to change my natural texture, but getting it healthy.
    All the African tribes who use water and clay to grow natural 4c hair weren’t making that up. The women of the Hamer tribes with the tiny red locs understand how to treat the health of fragile 4c hair.
    Max hydration isn’t new, it’s going back to less is more. Like becoming a vegetarian, it’s about re-thinking what healthy 4c hair means. You can check out the original method here: www.msdeekay.com/the-maximum-hydration-method/the-maximum-hydration-method-regimen/

    I made a similar mistake. You didn't wash out the clay properly and you have to deep condition after. It doesn't matter what the steps say. You still had product on your hair that is why it felt kinda like straw. I do an ACV rinse, white mixture, co wash, clay and then a deep conditioner with steam. I use a moisturizing shampoo. It is IMPORTANT to use a good curl defining leave in. It's not that bad for your first try. keep it up!

  • @chelsiejai6620

    ****This is for anyone interested in this method! ***
    You may or may not be tripping. Lol In addition to not using metal utensils, the original instructions of the MHM state to include 1 tbsp of EVOO and 1 tbsp of Raw Honey in the clay mask & then cover with a plastic cap; don’t let it dry. Also, your choice of products should come from the suggested list or be completely natural bc chemicals largely impede the absorption of water. Even if the product says it’s free of parabens, silicones, & all the other bs. It builds up. Wetline isn’t on the list. This is a cumulative method. There won’t be immediate life-changing results for everyone, ESPECIALLY if you don’t follow the instructions closely. But simply including the process & suggested products over time into your routine & eliminating the chemical-laden products will get you maximum hydration/definition.
    HOWEVER, the issue could also be your hair’s porosity. The MHM is originally fishnet for LO-PO hair, so ingredients like baking soda are used to lift the cuticle. You have chemically processed hair which is likely high-porosity, as a result. The MHM for Hi-Po likely wouldn’t loosen your curls, dry your hair, or strip your color like the original version did.
    It works! Maybe I’ll share a video abt it soon. 😘♥️
