@ReallyRedPanda Thank you very much for your kind words, I am glad the demo have severed its purpose. The drawing was done with willow charcoal, and a little bit of 6B charcoal pencil.
Thank you for Posting these videos. I defintly consider you as true Master. I dare use this word "Master" because, for me, you're exploring an area that very few of us have ever tried :" the Risk". Far beyond the highest level of anatomy, you 're showing to everyone that there is another way to draw. From the very begining of your drawing , you put such an amount of Darkness. Who would dare do that drawing a naked model ? for sure...not a lot of drawers... And starting from this Darkness, somehting incredible is emerging out of your paper. I guess such a level recquires a very high level of understanding. In some ways, you're a Magician.
Thank you Jacques, your words have humbled me. The way I draw is based on "Let's have fun with it", with the experiences with anatomy and value control, you can explore any way you wish. :)
When you are trying a new medium, you need time to adjust to get confortable, the more you try the easier it gets, one hint is the sensitivity of your touch.
Watching you work is a learning tool on it's own for me. Your portraits make me want to better capture people in detail when I myself draw and paint. Thanks for posting these, they're a treat for the eyes and encouragement for the ambition! By the way, what materials did you use for this portrait? Thanks again! :)
I'm currently learning how to use charcoal but no matter how i try i can't seem to control the tone during blending. Any advice on how I can solve this problem?
could you give a detailed insight on you equipment such as the type of paper and charcoal? and what type of charcoal do you suggest for on the road sketching? (I tend to use a light willow)
Master Tan are you using a thin or medium willow chalk, can't figure how you are able to create such thin lines with charcoal! I've used both and they give me quite heavy lines. probably the pressure I am applying
hello sir, i'm having a hard time capturing the likeness of an image..i figured that its not about proportion because caricature artists mess with proportions but you still know who they drew..and i'm also erasing a lot..is it normal to always erase alot? my work looks dirty because of it. any tips??
How do you move the charcoal around so much, I've tried the medium a bunch of time and the charcoal always seems to "stain the paper", once a mark is down I can smudge but I can't erase/drag it ( I don't know if that makes sense ). It's probably because I haven't tried enough but it's been bothering me for a while now
Many of my students had this issue. One of the main reason, it is because you have have sweaty hands. When the oil from your hand get in touch with the charcoal, it will stain the paper, you can't get it off. You can use a paper stomp or tissue paper to the the render, avoid your hand touching the paper, the tones will be able to erase off the drawing. Hope it would help you.
@JonahMulaw10 Art is never end, art is life, and life itself is art, as long as you live, there are endless knowledge and possibilities ahead of us. When you know you know a lot, that's the time you will find out you don't know enough.
Drawing is like driving, first time you need to look at the map and figure out where to go, second time you will have an idea how to get to the point, the third time you won't even hesitate and know where to go.
i m a great fan of yours ....i just love the style....i wish i could have learnt it from you....i m really weak with measurements of a face.....if you are reading this can you help me with any link or book from where i can learn the basics of measurements......

@Indevor I work on any type of paper I have, they all have different ways you can work on top.
後期,是否改用炭筆刻畫了細部?柳炭條是否容易掉色?
What kind of material are you drawing on?
I would extremely appreciate it, if you can just tell the kind of paper you use. Also is that charcoal? (sorry if that was a stupid question).
i like this.

请问你都用的哪些炭笔?

Endless practices and you ended doing proportion by eye?

Yes, indeed she is, she's also a most wonderful and thoughtful person.

admirable work, you are a great source of inspiration for me, and I was wondering if you coul recomend me a good book on portraits, thanks in advance.
I have a question, Is that Vine charcoal or Willow charcoal?
+JOHNSON JOSEPH ROZARIO It was willow charcoal.
Your drawings reminds me of Henry Yan and Zhaoming Wu. Do you know them? You all have really inspired me.
Its initial basis for the design is not measurement?
+Adriano Fonseca It is both working at the same time.
You are welcome.
Perfeito!!
beautiful...
ah, what kind of paper do you use?
It was a medium weight paper with willow charcoal.
Thank you Lineke.
