Toms story: Tom McDonald 100% independent! He’s had major record labels after him daily for at least four years and he turns them ALL down! After you listen to a few of his songs, especially the music industry and sad rappers, you’ll understand why. He writes all of his songs, makes his beats, and his girlfriend Nova Rockafeller shoots and edits all of his videos! That’s why dear rappers is so simplistic because they were just starting out really. He dabbled in bands and had managers in the past, but that’s why he struggled so much and that’s why he wasn’t as successful as he should’ve been until he wrote dear rappers. That’s after he had cut everybody out and started doing things his way on his time with no middleman! He spent about nine months battling crippling depression. He contemplated suicide several nights and he was a severe alcoholic! After what seemed to be an eternity, he spiritually came out of that depression and quit everything cold turkey, not only alcohol but also cigarettes and marijuana and certain anxiety medication. Him and Nova could barely pay rent to keep a home after that but he stayed strong and ultimately wrote Dear Rappers which was his very first video to go viral, and the rest is history! A lot of people didn't really give Tom a chance. They heard one or two bars from one of his controversial songs and started hating on him and never listened to the lyrics. A little back ground on him. He is 100% independent. It's just him, his girlfriend and his buddy Evan. He was born in Canada and started professional wrestling in his teens. He did that for about 6 years until the politics and repeated injuries made him leave it. He started rapping about 19 and touring Canada and Europe. He was battling addiction, depression and anxiety and at that time he was rapping about the same crap all other rappers were rapping about (drugs, girls, money etc) during that time he was living in the ghetto in South Central LA. Although still cranking out music and touring his battle with addiction and mental illness got worse. He hit rock bottom and had a mental breakdown. With one smoke left, and about to lose it all he wrote Dear Rappers. Borrowed the money to release it the next day and it blew him up. After that he got sober and changed. He decided to do it all for himself and his fans and only spit the truth. Because he is 100% independent he can do and say what he wants with his music. And he does. That scares many people. Truth is hard to hear. He doesn't care who he calls out. He is the realists most diverse artist in the game. You will love the journey into his catalog.
