    Okay, here’s what I think! First, I’ve owned all Nikon D series cameras from D3300 - D850, also Sony’s from A 6000 a A7riii, and Fuji X- T20 - X-T3, oh, and currently shooting Z6 and had the z7 too. Ken, is operating from a hurt place, due to something Nikon did in the past or should I say didn’t do, and this makes him negatively bias. I have delivered some amazing pictures to clients with all my cameras, and love the Z6 everywhere except studio work, but even there it’s good. The Z6ii has answered the issues that I needed addressing, especially dual card slots. Okay, one other gripe, the auto tracking auto focus is still in need of improving. I am buying the z6ii and keeping my z6 also

      I'm getting a Z6 II and I'm a diehard Nikon fan. I agree with the issue of the poor card door placement and engineering. For what you're paying, he likely feels, is that you're not getting enough for your dollar. Usage of the top of the camera may not be the best and subject tracking may leave much to be desired, but that's why the 6/10.
      For a $2,000 body, certain things shouldn't have been overlooked. I feel as though these new cameras are S's more than II's, you know? Even still, I can't wait to get mine!

    You had me until you compared the X-T2 to the Z6II. As a former xt2 owner and a current Z owner, there is a Grand Canyon difference. Why would you say something so ridiculous? C’mon TAP. I know you were treated badly by Nikon, but don’t make crazy stupid statements like that. I actually read that you were more impressed than you let on but you can’t let Nikon know you liked it.
    There’s a LOT of us that have moved from Fuji to the Nikon Z system. Probably more than you realise. So even though you love Fuji like us, you’re tainted with bias. Disappointing really, as I defend you on Nikon forums, but watching that I realise you really aren’t too removed from Northrup, who hated the Z because Sony told him to hate it.

I don't do videos, so this camera for photography is good in every aspect, sharp, rich colors, great dynamic range, low noise, 8,000 /sec shutter speed, not to mention Touch Screen, Etc. And the included 24-120 F4 VR lens allows me to do nature, street and portrait photography. This D780 is replacing my D750

    Interesting review. I have both the d850 and z6ii, using both regularly for wildlife photography. I agree with some of your criticism but differ on some key points and overall impression. I love both the d850 and z6 but, for me, they are very different cameras for different purposes. No one camera, at least yet, can do everything. For fast action in good light, or when I know ill be cropping a lot, the d850 every time. In lower light, where I'm closer to the subject, always the z6. It would have never occurred to me to even try and compare the two. Regarding some of the criticism we disagree on. I think the Z6 IQ is fantastic, and I'm comparing that with the d850 daily. The low noise at high ISO is one of my favourite aspects of the camera, it is just phenomenal in low light. Crucial for me is the silent shutter when close to a subject and touch screen autofocus, I rarely use the view finder as I want the camera as low as possible and have the ability to very quickly compose a shot using the flexibility of almost full sensor af point coverage. These points also held true for the z6, I upgraded for a small number of incremental updates which irritated me such as the slower AF and how dammed long it took to come out of standby! In summary, d850 amd z6ii, both great, both different, both indispensable for me.

    I’ve been a full-time photographer for 10 years now. I’ve owned the best from Canon, including 8 of their L lenses, then switched to Sony (not impressed) and have now been with Fuji for almost 2 years. I have two X-T4’s and one X-T3. The autofocus issues are terrible. A maternity shoot yesterday yielded 1 sharp image out every 4 I took with the 56 1.2. Face detect was picking her up, great natural light and a stationary subject. I find the keeper rate is incredibly low for all of the bodies and of course varies with lens selection. No matter the combination, keeper rate is FAR lower than any camera I have ever used. Firmware hasn’t helped at all. I just have to “overshoot” every session. This is not a camera system you should use as a professional unless you plan on using manual focus all of the time, I promise you. I’m now trying to decide whether I should switch back to Canon or give Nikon a try. Switching mainly to video to keep things fresh and unfortunately, it seems Sony is the best option. For some reason I’m most inclined to try the Mark II line from Nikon. Nothing can be as unreliable as Fuji.

    The Z6 II only had to be better than the D750/D780 for it to be successful. In those terms it is a vast improvement. Nikon are attempting to capitalise on their existing user base of DSLR users ( guys like me ). The Z6II will be my step into Nikon mirrorless, when I can afford one that is 😋 I've no doubt many who were on the Z mount fence are ready to jump in and migrate from DSLRs slowly. We can still use our f mount glass until such a time we replace it with Z glass. This is an important aspect for users like me. If Sony or Fujifilm performed better in every aspect to Nikon by multiple percentages then yes I'd consider switching. The reality however is that Fuji, Sony, Nikon and Canon are all more or less similar regards absolute performance. I wouldn't consider switching systems for a 5% improvement in AF for example. I'm totally agnostic regards brands, I do however see Nikon taking back much of their lost market share in the next couple of years.

    • @mikejackson9585
      @mikejackson9585 4 года назад +1

      Only have to beat 750/780? I'd argue with the new mounts on 2 of the 3 largest manufacturers, Nikon really needed to match or beat the R5, R6, A7 III, and A7R IV with their Z bodies.

    • @dunnymonster
      @dunnymonster 4 года назад

      @@mikejackson9585 Ideally, yes I'd agree with you. If Nikon are to push for greater market share in the short term and more immediately ( and they really can't wait much longer ), they need to first convert as many f mount users to Z mount. It's easier to get existing Nikon users to switch than to get completely brand new users who are not invested in any system yet to buy into Z mount. If I had absolutely no gear at all then for sure I'd be looking at alternatives from Canon or Sony. In fact despite my relatively big investment in Nikon DSLR gear I'd switch to Canons R mount mirrorless if funds allowed. The truth is however I and no doubt many others simply cannot afford such a move. My best move is to stick with Nikon and slowly progress into their Z mount while still enabling me to use all my my f mount lenses ( and don't forget a considerable investment in flashes and other Nikon compatible accessories). This is the reality for the majority of people, RUclipsrs switching systems on a monthly basis are in a very tiny minority.😉

      As a Nikon user who switched to Sony 2.5 years ago, I would've bought this instead of A7iii if it was available with the great lenses. I shoot real estate and 14-30mm f/4 Z is probably the best range/weight/price lens out there at the moment and even Z6 with 2 card slots would've done the job.
      For my events work there would be a problem since there's no Tamron f/2.8 trinity like there is for Sony. Brand name lenses are very expensive, so having 3rd party options is essential when you don't have $5000+ budget!

      Much true in what you're saying, but I disagree about the basic "sameness" of the cameras. I shoot hand held, fully manual video---no photos (except on my iPhone). And the Fujifilm features for video are the best of the best, equaled only by the Blackmagic design Pocket 4 and 6k cinema cameras in the same or similar price range. They're fabulous. Ken is right: the Fuji peaking and video features are fantastically good---state of the art....my sense is upon the arrival of the X-H2 you will see a quantum leap in video capability that will make it a must have. But Fuji is sure taking their sweet time.

    I love this review. I really do! I don't agree with the "non affiliated", overly tattooed guy who is blabbing 20 minutes non stop but here's the deal : I preordered a z7ii and you know, it's quarantine year, don't have many things to do, it's also xmas time, even less stuff to do, so I got time to kill and this long, time killing blabbing about the top lcd, the buttons etc, it manages to be something new in it's own weird way.... hahaha.... Most negative videos just hate the AF of all nikon mirrorless and that is all you hear about, again and again, it's just boring. Then there are the respectable few, fancy u-toobers - no need to name them - who just ridiculously rant about nikon like crazed mothers in law, while jumping up and down like demented kangaroos to test the AF, and they are funny as well, but I probably went through all of their anti-nikon videos, and now I was lucky enough to stumble across this fellow who did manage to come up with his own slightly different / slightly unique rant.... thing is my z7ii is already underway, but due to holiday season and courier madness, it won't arrive until the 5th of Jan... so I would really appreciate any rubbish video about nikon at this point, just to pass the time.... after all, positive videos require someone to actually use the camera and i get it that requires an amount of effort that go-with-the-flow, nikon-hate- u-toobers are just not capable of.... so please.... make a video hating a lens or anything really and i will subscribe, i promise... come the vaccine, the lift of this quarantine and the resumption of normal everyday life, i will unsubscribe, but till then you will enjoy my clicks and views.... much love to you... thank you for making me smile with your BS. And btw, I am sorry if I offended you but, seriously, a camera review - which you mention you "are serious about" (lol) without a SINGLE sample photo? hahaha.... you are funny man.... 1st of all... how do I know you even are a photographer..... you just sit in there, blab and hold a camera.... ok... if you don't like the buttons... maybe lose some weight, your fingers will shrink and adjust better to the camera (problem solved)..... now do me a favor, I watched and even commented on your "work" so I did my best for you, as far as google's algorithm is concerned... return the favor by giving my comment a heart.... that is the least you can do! lol....

    I am not femiliar with other camera systems. I've used 2 Nikon's D750's for tha past 3.5 years and I got great value for the price in my opinion. Yes, there were problems here and there but nothing out of the ordinary and overall my expereance was very positive. so when the time came I bought the origional Z6 and now I've added also the Z6Ii. I have to say Im just getting to start enjoying the new technologies mirrorless cameras offer, and even if there is a better system out there, I feel so comfortable holding a Nikon's body, so thinking about trying another brand just comes off the table everytime.
    Waiting for the Adobe to update thete programs for Z6II raw file, so I could realy try and enjoy it.

    Z6 II is the best Nikons video camera ever made. You said so yourself that you are not into video side of things. I agree that for photography prupose its miserable compared to D850, but D850 is the best photo camera ever made. In terms of video, Z6 II blows everything else out of water, even Sony and Fujifilm. Z lens are crap in terms of quality compared to F mount, but they are silent, fast and very sharp and that is videographers dream. You know yourself how annoyingly loud F mount focus motors are. They are build like a tank, but are loud as one too. In other terms great review, I just hope that Nikon will survive long enoguh for the 3rd and 4th gen product :)

      In what way is the video better then Fuji x-t4, Sony or Canon R5 (although R5 and A7s III are more expensive)...?

    • @Milanius
      @Milanius 4 года назад

      @@mrenovatio3739 In it's price range no other device can deliver the combination of image output (great sensor readout), ibis quality (no jarring jiggle/tilting), field and general use reliability (does not overheat, great weather seal). Other cameras you mentioned might be better in one specific thing, but as an overall package Z6 II is superior. When you rig Z6 II and hook it on the external recorder, it becomes a serious beast for video production. If you are on the budget, this is the best FX video camera your money can buy. X-T4 is nice (although it has plenty of problems in video), but FX>DX if you are serious about video. And if you want 4k60, it will come on Z6II with the same DX mode as X-T4. R5 and a7sIII are out of the price range, and are in the realm of diminishing returns.

Caught my attention due to my purchase of a camera from an ebay store. This Nikon D300s has the exact same tag, and I wondered where the camera originally came from. Could stand for PD = paid. Or Police Department, or maybe Photo Department. Could just be something esoteric that really means nothing in the real world. The ebay store is a liquidations company, I believe. The Z6ii lost the ability to adjust shutter speed using the rear command disk in all modes including S and M. I can change shutter speed with the front command disk in S and M modes by flipping the main/sub command disks into the custom control settings. I can also change shutter speeds in S and M modes using the touchscreen. Therefore, the issue appears to be exclusively related to the back command disk. I have reset the camera to default settings to make sure the menu setting is not the problem. The camera firmware has been updated to version 1.30. The new camera was purchased earlier this year. I was able to adjust the shutter speed with the back command disk before updating the firmware.
    Has anyone had this problem? I'm trying to determine if it's a mechanical issue or a firmware update issue. I searched Google for the issue to see if it was related to the last firmware update to version 1.30 and didn't see any posts about the update

There are many questions to consider but pretty much any camera made today is going to be able to get the shots you want. Its 99% personal preference. I have always listened to you and I agree with you. I love your honest reviews. I have been using Nikon for the last 30 years and I really love Nikon and its DSLR cameras. Inspite of all the upgrades and convineince of mirrorless cameras I am still nostalgic about DSLRs. The linear and straight line design of z series does not entice me to go mirrorless. D850 is a class apart and z series cameras are too bland a design looks quite empty without dials and buttons.

    Second year absolutely happy with my Nikon Z6. Best camera ever, Z6 II will be also. Don´t need 2 card slots and all specs are more than enough. Very good ergonomics, quality and photo/video output. I have also collection of DSLR´s with older lenses on them for artistic uses. D3s, D7100, D700 ... etc.

    A “fine” camera for Nikon mirrorless is pretty good for most people.
    I think my takeaway is when comparing this to the alternative offerings by other manufacturers, this camera ..doesn’t stand out.. it’s not an “exceptional” offering to what Nikon did with the “D850” ...it doesn’t mean it’s a bad or a poor camera.. just you need to really look hard at the competition and make your own judgement.
    I am currently a Sony shooter (but still have my Nikon DSLR) and I must admit I much prefer the Nikon ergonomics/menus and overall experience.. so I really wanted a “shut up and take my money situation”.. maybe the next generation ? Or after a few firmware updates .. one can hope !

    You always say "compared to what?" So my question is, compared to the d750, is this a better option? My d750 took a splash from a wave Christmas week and thankfully I had bought an extended warranty that covers everything. I will be receiving a check for the amount I paid for it. I don't understand why the d780 cost more than the z6 ii but it is an option. I would love to own a d850 but I'm not prepared to work with the larger files. So compared to the d750, what do you think?

    My only camera is an old Nikon D700. Im considering purchasing the Z6-II for low light/street light situations without a tripod and minimal PP.
    How would you rate the z6-ii overall for low light, straight out of camera performance?
    And in your review you provided an overall score of 6/10....
    6 (z6-ii) vs 10 (-?-)

I still have all my Nikon gear and was hoping that Nikon would manufacture a more advance mirrorless system. Your review gave me the impression that this is not the camera I was hoping for. I may try one, if I can get my hands on one. Thank you again.

      Hi Joel, the Z6ii is a great camera dude, after buying the z6 last year and now I have the Z6ii I’ll be selling my d750 and using the z series to shoot my weddings with in 2021. Plus you can use all your old lenses with the adapter and it works seamlessly! If you are like me coming from an the Nikon SLR camera you will use point selected focusing any way which is exactly the same but after awhile you can get use to the eye auto focusing and it’s awesome and makes shooting so easy .cheers Joel and good luck

    Thank you for posting. I’m thinking of moving up from my DX format to full frame and since i have Nikon or Nikon F mount 3rd party lenses from when I started back in the mid 80’s I was thinking about a new D610 (cheap) or 850 or Z6II. Honestly want to use my old MF lenses (Nikon, Lensbaby, Lomography, Helios etc). IF I want video, I have my Blackmagic Pocket 4K. Or maybe later a Z cam full frame or at least super 35... (will see how Z cam shakes out eventually vs Blackmagic) and for quick snaps and video, my iPhone 11 and next iPhone 13 Pro with the 3rd improved 3x lens... So really looking for a new or late model used full frame DSLR Nikon or possibly a full frame mirrorless with GOOD FOCUS PEAKING... what would you suggest? I’m thinking pricing of D610 would be ideal and for me might be the best choice... I’ll look at the 850’s. Being DSLR’s I won’t have to worry about focus peaking as much... but it would help in live view. I guess I have to look at your videos of the 850, 610 if you have it... and really learn something about Fuji. Again I couldn’t care less about AF, eye tracking etc.. but do care about raw, color balance, usability with older manual lenses. I don’t want to go as old as my 300’s in a full frame.. something current or recent.. or a new fangled Fuji? Thoughts? Ok, going to check out your other videos.. always valuable, always entertaining.

    Just spotted a picture of what appears to be the new Nikon 400 2.8 MK2. So I messaged Nikon asking them to identify the lens in the picture I sent them and they’ve just replied and state they’re unable to comment on lenses not yet released! 🤣🤣🤣 The new lens looks absolutely stunning and appears attached to the Nikon Z. No sign of any adapter.

    Would be nice if you coud point out some things that are kind of important. Like image quality or dyamic range, etc.
    And actually show some shots.
    Objectivity means use non biased data, not your 'feel' or opinion. Its valid of course but its not objective, its anedoctal.
    Measure shutter noise objectively for example is measure actual sound in deciqbels comparing with others of the same class/price range and show numbers.
    Same for speed, dynamic range, vignetting, iso noise, chromatic aberration, etc.
    With that said i like your reviews but i always take them with a grain of salt, precisely because altough its a independent view its not objective.
