Like when your high school copy of Macbeth is water damaged and you have three more copies- the high school one can be sacrificed to the decor gods. Paper roses are my favorite, or there’s folding the pages to make an image (I wonder if Macbeth could become a hand holding a dagger… bit of red paint on the edges for effect), or turning it into a hiding place on the shelf (opens bookcase-door, hides a replica dagger…).

I was just pontificating on this. The duality of both having excess space you can’t fill (can you imagine?) and then choosing something _that in no way reflects or even relates to you or who you are as a person_ to fill it as a lazy way to pretend you are someone you’re not is just, annoying. Why is it that the people who have all the bookshelves haven’t read any of the books? This is why I keep saying this isn’t true capitalism, because we aren’t actually assigning value to what’s valuable. We are assigning it to the least valuable things, and rewarding people who are willing to waste and disrespect our most important resources _with the power to own and control all the resources_ (and surprise, they’re wasting those too!)
If you create art, and everyone loves it, sure get rich, absolutely. Musicians, authors, artists, actors, directors, programmers, etc. you make something and that something sells, by all means, get your paper boo boo. If you move money around from country to country all day, profiting from slight differences in exchange rates that become huge profits bc you’ve got SO much money to start with, so that pennies can become millions bc you’re starting out with billions, NO. diaf. Finding loopholes that simply siphon off of other people is parasitic.
Actual capitalism wouldn’t pay bankers and hedge fund managers more than the people planting, harvesting and preparing the food, or building the bridges, or cleaning the hospital rooms. We wouldn’t be allowing public funds budgeted for education to be used as vouchers to pay for non-public education
I don’t know how the rich have convinced half of the poor people to support such an insidious assault on public resources but DANG they sure doin’ it ain’t they. I guess they want to end society so they can be outlaws and just rob people, that’s more attractive to them than adapting or learning new skills. As the other half of the poor people, I’m just putting most of my energy into survival and the rest of it into online learning I guess
Anyways I’m not talking about politics you’re talking about politics … hmm? This is a Wendy’s? I’ll see myself out

But, as a single person, I can’t possibly eat all of that food before it goes to waste. So putting nick nacks and other things in the back of my fridge to stop me from shoving my food back there, thus taking up the empty space, sounds like it would force me to buy less food overall and therefore create less waste because I’m only buying what I’ll actually eat. And I’ll have to clean my fridge more often. It would also make the fridge look more full, so I’ll feel less like I need to hoard what I have due to food insecurities that tend to pop up when the food runs low

The pool noodle poof…I used to own a pool. I utilized pool noodles as pool toys or for support while lounging in the water, which shockingly were purposes for which pool noodles were intended. I discovered that although pool noodles have some longevity, they are not immortal. Over time they disintegrate into chunks and eventually a mixed chemical powder, not something you’d want circulating in the air of your enclosed living space. And while the “poof-noodles” are spared exposure to chlorine, they are subjected to intermittent burdens of human weight, without water’s gentle, compliant support from below. In other words, the pool noodle poofs ain’t gonna last a long time and just might make you sick.

Hard to choose which idea is the worst. I have to go with the chia pet sink. Even if you are able to get the soil to stay in place on slippery porcelain and then get the seeds to take, in short time it is going to stink to high heaven as the plant material decomposes and bring on fungus gnats as you water it. (Why am I even applying horticulture to this? It's just stupid!)

The pool noodle ottoman is actually pretty genius with a couple of modifications. Pool noodles actually fuse together really nicely with the application of heat, so heat gun them for the structural complaint. They also carve nicely for different shaped ottomans. Then you could still use duct tape if you wanted for applying the jute rope, or sew/crochet a cover instead.
Being made of pool noodles would be a great usage for a front porch, or even pool side. No worries about wood degradation from the elements or bugs. Heck, it might even still float in the pool!

10 years ago, when I was young and way before TikTok, I turned all of my books so the spine doesn't show so I can spot a book snob guest.
My books then often very intimately spoke about my interests and world views, so when I used to entertain a lot of parties, I had no wish of strangers debating or judging me by my books thinking they know it all..
It was a slight "la resistance" move because I knew a lot of "book lover-defined by my reading habits- faux intelectual" snobs.
Worked like a charm, they were shook and had no idea how to approach the monstrosity on my book shelves. Made me giggle. 😅
