You could do what I did at 4:00 - 6:00 but just in reverse or you could do something like I did in this video here ruclips.net/video/T5WR4qcaiB0/видео.htmlsi=WhEsHXcDr8TzVcrG
You could but the zip tie is much easier as you'd have to probably squeeze the ring much smaller than it's meant to be as it normally goes round the plastic on the shift knob and not directly on the metal shaft.
@@RCS_716 gotcha, i just, saw more such videos an everyone is using a zip tie and for some reason i cant unsee the part where the zip tie holds it, looks so “unnatural”/bad, id love custom knob but this is kind of a deal breaker for me sadly:(
You could use 2 or 3 zipties or you could get some sort of metal clip kind of like the one on there from factory and clamp in on really tight, Those are the only ways I can think of at the moment, hope this helped 👍
It's not the greatest thing out there. Even 1 of the adapters snapped when I was putting mine on ( was mostly my fault ) but the quality isn't great. The aluminium ball is solid though I cant fault that it's just the adapters that aren't the best. Keep that in mind if you plan on buying one 👍
This vid came in handy for me for my caddy so thank you! I used a tiny black zip tie to fix the boot so it doesn’t move from the knob.
That's a smart idea. Glad I could help 👍
how did u manage to not let the boot move at all?
thanks. i broke mine trying to change it. now i will pay a professional to do it.
Why is everything VW so unnecessarily long winded
Trust, they couldn't just make things nice and simple 😩
Thanks for the video from across the pond in Canada. Cheers
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. Big up Canada 🇨🇦 😁
thank you so much, i couldn't find a single thing online how to get this off n i felt like such an idiot that i couldn't do it
I am considering doing this to my vw but I am wondering how you can reverse it back if you reconsider.

You have to do all this just to put an aftermarket shift knob on? Vw making shit hard asf out here
car newbie here, but, cant you just buy the steel ring you took off of the original part and use it instead of the ziptie?

I agree it does make it look weird, I wasn't a fan of how it looked either :(
In the end I went with an oem looking one
is there anyway to secure the boot a bit tighter?

I took my screw and put it in hot water to make it expand then i put it on the shift stick
Smart idea tbh
Do you know if this functions also in the 2020 model?
I'm not too sure if it's the same for the 2020 model sorry.
Will this work for a skoda rapid?
I'm not too sure but if the shifter looks like the one in the video then it should work.
@@RCS_716 cool thanks
What’s the size of that washer for the shift knob
I'm not too sure to be honest, it came with the shift knob.
Have you found the size ?
Thank you
Should’ve just left it stock🤣
Say it again for the people in the back 🤣
I made sure to change it again as it didn't look good at all lol
What brand shit knob is? Can you post a link. Thank you
It's a generic universal ebay shift knob.
