    Marcello, there's a caveat you need to be aware of: I used to deliberately "wreck" a bass to make it hard to play and then practice on it. However 35 years later my right hand, the plucking hand, has permanent nerve damage in my fingertips, this makes playing any bass very painful and consequently has all but ended my playing career. Don't be concerned with playing hard to be heard, after all, that why we have amplifiers.

      I definitely agree with what you say. I've been playing bass for a few years and I also tried this way of practicing and it's not entirely recommended. In the long run it can cause tendonitis or joint problems. Please be careful when you practice.

    Rookie bassist here with 12 yrs playing guitar. I bought my bass from Sweetwater in February. Shipped from HQ in Indiana all the way to my home in TX. Action is a little high and the strings have 0 silk so it's hard to slide. Good workout to say the least. Slap hurts but I like it

    Great video! I practice on an acoustic bass most the time. About the same idea. The acoustic is not a lot harder to play but it tells the absolute truth. lol

    This is how I learned my guitar chords! I had a student guitar with the worst possible setup and rainbow strings lol, I figured, if I could learn on this thing I could play a beautiful instrument with a great setup. It worked! This technique 1000% works!

    Yeah, using a "harden" set up bass is a great idea and a cool concept. Only thing I would point is that your technique should be highly refined, cos if not, all your bad playing habits will be translated to the other bass.

    I never practice on my bass I perform with. I refuse to practice on anything but my old ass Yamaha early 90's rbx fretless. The idea being, my fretless is incredibly challenging to play because the action is super high and the roundwounds have chewed fretboard, so I work harder for it. By the time I play those patterns on my gig bass, it is a breeze to play because I have worked harder. Works for me lol. I dont even play my fretless anymore live, just the fretted.

    I have a travel bass I practice on, it's kind of a odd bass. It's a steinberger spirit. But I use my music man bass to play with other people. I do like the steinberger because its easy to travel with, and easy to store in tight places. But its harder to play because it's a little odd, It's difficult to describe the challenge of this bass, but it is challenging.

    Yo bass wiz I have some questions… when musicians perform live and some are given soloing time, what they play, is it written in music score or do they really solo? And if you are given soloing time what goes through your mind how do you approach it? Do you think of the technique you are going use and play riffs that you know and mix them up or play what you hear in your head and bring it out through your fingers like George Benson?

    • @TheBassWizard
      @TheBassWizard  5 лет назад

    Judging by the quick little screw driver test, seems all my basses have been setup like that lol. Either way loved the video, challenging myself was always the way I liked learning the bass but I’ve begin to hit a brick wall after more of the basics stuff so hopefully I can move onto the harder techniques and songs to improve

    • @TheBassWizard

    Tamburitza bass is very hard to play. It is big and action is so high on it and it is tuned a whole step above bass guitar od double bass. So my electric basses play like a breeze, even the stagg plays really good.

    I do appreciate the function of a short video but I've been getting into podcasts a lot while at work or driving and it would be so sweet if you got a guest on and made a more long form video with discussions and break downs of concepts... Possibly more on the side of a rig rundown/interfacing technical options of all sorts. Not necessarily your preferences but just a breakdown. Like a Bass geared version of what Rick Beato does with "everything music". Regardless I love your channel!!
