    Yes, Bird had an unreal basketball IQ and his teammates understood that from day one.
    Bird demanded his team play a certain way and they bought into it.
    His teammates knew where to be and expected that Bird might pass the ball to them.
    Watch the video but check out the position and look of the Celtics players just before Bird passed them the ball, they were ready.
    Bird was all about it being a team game.
    Bird's full court passing was more accurate than Tom Brady!

    If you look at Larry's Stats, it boogles the mind. For someone supposed to be slow and not able to jump, he dang sure posted numbers that will stand up to anyone. No matter what Era. Think about the physicality that was allowed back then. Now compare that to today's game and it's even more impressive.

The man may not have had the say athletic ability as others but his passes an scoring ability was genius so yeah he’s at the very top an it’s fact when you listen to the other top players speak of him

      That "Larry wasn't that athletic" has become so cliche. If that was the case, how did he have the career he had? Leading fast breaks, the passes, rebounding...the hustle! Was this his signature play, or was it THE STEAL against Detroit in Game 5 of the '87 ECF's?

    It's hard to place him on any sort of list tbh. I'd say he's an easy top 5 for damn near most though..he may not have scored the most, or had the most assists, or the most rebounds, or had the most steals, etc, but he seemed to have good numbers in damn near all areas of the game (I think he had like 10 rebound per game avg, for instance)..so yeah, that's why Larry is just in my little group of "all time greats"...I don't really have a solid "G.O.A.T" just a group of "greats" that I don't really argue about because it's all different eras, different rules, etc.

      Larry totally dominated the NBA from the first day in every conceivable way. As ROY he only finished 4th in MVP because most people just couldn't believe he was really that good. But the next 8 years in a row he was 1st or 2nd. It wasn't just 3 MVPs in a row, and remember he won that 3rd MVP and then finished 2nd twice AFTER he broke a bone in his back. Best shooter ever, best passer ever, most clutch performer ever, and all while playing in the toughest era in NBA history. 🐐🦄🐐🦄🐐🦄🐐

    His being a great shooter contributed to his passing- he was always double teamed, which meant somebody else was always open, and he could find them. McHale said in an interview that Larry told him "you just get open- I'll hit you". Another thought- do you know how strong you have to be to pass full court with enough control to drop it right in his hands?

    When it comes to passing, Larry perfectly combined basketball with football and volleyball. With his full court passes and touch/tap passss, he was amazing. I don’t think anyone has ever had the kind of huddle that Larry had. I was in Grade school and remember my crush was a huge Bird fan, we played basketball a lot. Watching Larrys highlights, I now recognize he was trying to copy a lot of Larrys style.

    And the best thing was that Larry WANTED to involve the whole team... and he did that with his passing. He liked having stats -- but he liked winning more -- and to do that, he had to have a team that was with him. He involved everyone and he knew if he was being doubled-teamed, he teammates would find ways to get open. He was the ULTIMATE team player!

    For those that think Larry Bird was not as good as he really was. This comment is for those whom never had the chance to see him play.
    Little know thing about Larry to those that never saw him play , he could effect the outcome of a game and never take a shot thats how devastating his passing skills were. Here is one thing that most fans (people) either don't know or try to ignore, prior to Larry joining the NBA there was no such thing as a three point line, that came in when Bird was starting his first year off in his NBA career. Just think about what would todays game be without the three point line or if the line was one foot farther out like it was when it was first introduced. Food for thought.
    At that time it was not about the individuals stats it was about the win. But if you need some stats here you go:
    Here are some of Larry Bird's notable career achievements and statistics:
    Three-time NBA champion (1981, 1984, 1986); Two-time NBA Finals MVP (1984, 1986); Three-time NBA MVP (1984-86); 12-time NBA All-Star (1980-88, 1990-92); Nine-time All-NBA First Team (1980-88);
    All-NBA Second Team (1990); Three-time All-NBA Defensive Second Team (1982-84); NBA Rookie of the Year (1980); NBA All-Rookie Team (1980); Three-time NBA Three-Point Contest champion (1986-88);
    Career-high in points: 60 (March 12, 1985) -- tied for franchise record with Jayson Tatum; Named NBA Coach of the Year (1998); and Named NBA Executive of the Year (2012).
    Larry Bird, was the first player to accomplish the 50-40-90 achievement, and one of two players to achieve the feat in multiple seasons.
    Career averages:
    24.3 points per game
    10.0 rebounds per game
    6.3 assists per game
    88.6% free throw percentage
    49.6% field goal percentage
    37.6% 3-point percentage
    Now we can't forget that Bird famously played with two injured ankles and a notoriously cranky back that forced him to lay down on the floor during practice breaks. After season-ending foot surgery just six games into the 1988-89 season

      Actually, you had nothing to do with the fact that it was analog, it had to do with the fact that everything was in coded in mono, not stereo. Even if you think back to radios and boom boxes back in the 80s, they didn’t all have stereo, some simply had a single speaker, and everything was broadcast on that one channel. The fact that it wasn’t digital didn’t mean anything, as it was based around what the original signal was encoded/mastered in.

People are also used to really large TVs now, whereas a large family television even in part of the 80s was a 19 inch color TV. to put it in perspective, 20 feet from a small computer monitor and now imagine watching everything that way but add the horrible shadowing and double imaging you brought up, coupled with all of the sound coming through one little speaker. Well… ya see… Bird made it his business to be aware if his teammates weren’t getting enough touches or shots. He was also aware if a teammate had a mismatch. Bird ran that team. It was Bird’s team. So VERY often, Bird was dishing off to get his teammates involved in the scoring. It was also disheartening to the opponent. Bird was aiming to embarrass you. That was a calculated goal of his every time he stepped on the court. Was he a great passer? Yes. But there was a motive behind it beyond simply being unselfish.

    You may not call Bird THE goat, but who really is with all the great talent in NBA history - what Larry WAS though was the best ALL AROUND PLAYER probably ever seen, he played whatever position the game required at any given moment, shooter, clutch player, passer, assists, rebounds, steals etc and Larry was not selfish, he was a basic fundamentalist who included other players frequently and because of that they all worked very well AS A TEAM instead of every body worrying about just shooting threes all the time. Larry knew and often said you always have a better chance of winning AS A TEAM, for Larry it was all about getting the W and Larry NEVER GAVE UP ON A PLAY.

    I have Magic as #1 passer all time, with Larry right behind him. Magic was doing passes like this but he did twice as many. Though you can't deny Larry's passing was beautiful art. He made the game look amazing.

    I have to talk to you again because you asked a question I believe the threat that Larry Bird was the greatest passers of all-time can you imagine any of these Superstars are today being Salon selfish? He said everybody is on this team and he made sure everybody got to share who else is like that? Raised in his rookie year I seen that only won 20 games to the playoffs in the sophomore year biggest turnaround basketball history there's so much there do a deep dive find the Larry Bird Story that no one knows he was poor and his dad was head off of a shotgun Larry came from working people and with a working man if he could drag himself out there he played Watch Larry Bird's most Savage Moments video the trash talking videos there's so much and it's all fabulous and I really like I said appreciate you because her being so young you know what you're talkin about talk to you soon

    A lot can be said for the Big 3 of Boston. Sure McHale and Parrish were great players but no where near as good as Magic with Worthy and Kareem. McHale and Parrish became great because of Larry’s IQ. He was unselfish and always looking for the better shot. They benefited from Bird’s passing. Kareem was an MVP before Magic and Worthy was the best player in a NCAA championship team which had Jordan on it. With todays game and medical advancements, if he played today he would average 40/15/15. Easily!
