PLEASE READ: This is meant to show a perspective I hadn't heard about before and what I experienced. When I posted about my positive experience in Lahore, the level of backlash / accusations of propaganda and even death threats and certain misinformation prompted me to want to share this.
Remember, two things can be true at once. There is no question that Pakistan is need of many reforms and the fight for minority rights is an important one, but there is no reason to vilify someone who posts about a positive experience and there is no reason to deny the existence of a large happy Hindu community. If there is a happy Hindu community, this should be a good thing. For me, it made me feel hopeful. But I do not support the merging of religion and state in PK, just as I do not support a movement to make India a Hindu nation. As I emphasized, PK is not a secular state and is not built on a foundation of religious tolerance---but there are hundreds of millions of Muslims and it's fair to also show the ones who are not extremist and who are speaking up for minorities in the country.
THE BIG LIE: There's a claim that the Hindu population of Pakistan has declined significantly from around ~20% to 2% and this is used to support the idea that there is an ongoing genocide of Hindus in Pakistan today. But this is incredibly misleading because this statistic actually includes the huge migration in Hindus out of BANGLADESH (which was formerly east pakistan). The vast majority of Hindus had already migrated out of Pakistan when the partition took place in 1947

Here is the caption on the reel I posted on my trip to Lahore:
    AN INDIAN IN PAKISTAN…
My parents were nervous when I told them where I was going. As Indian citizens, there were banned from entering. They knew the history and had heard only horror stories about being Hindu in Pakistan.
But with my American passport, I could apply online for a visa. And in less than 24 hours, I was granted authorization for entry on arrival, though the actual visa would be subject to the border official’s discretion.
I’m American but I’m named after Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess, a dead giveaway that I’m of Indian origin.
I entered Pakistan via the Wagah border, the only way to cross between the 2 nations. There hasn’t been a flight in decades. I walked across and it felt surreal to be on the Pakistani side.
I was little nervous when the border officials checked my passport. He noticed my name and he asked me if I’m Indian and why I was coming. I told him I was just a curious tourist.
Both officers looked up at me and smiled, said welcome and started rattling off recommendations of what I needed to see during my trip. One stamped my passport and said that he hoped one day he would be able to see India in his lifetime.
That wasn’t the last time I would hear someone say that to me. Each time I introduced myself as Lakshmi, I would see the person’s face light up with a mix of surprise and curiosity-and often a hint of sadness.
I passed most of my days in #lahore, just 60 km away from Amritsar, its sister city in India. Before the bloody partition of 1947, when millions died and were uprooted, there was just one state called Punjab; one people living in one nation.
As I walked around, I sometimes forgot that I wasn’t in #india. There were so many similarities-the street food, the smell of spices, the colors, the traffic, the beautiful and overwhelming chaos, the language, the love for Bollywood, the endless cups of chai.
Most people assumed I was a local, but when they learned I was Indian, they usually made an extra effort to welcome me. Someone said to me, “the conflict is between the governments, not the people. And the extremists don’t represent us.”
    - Lakshmi

here is the extract from article from New York Times(woke liberal publication ) title : Poor and Desperate, Pakistani Hindus Accept Islam to Get By
By Maria Abi-Habib and Zia ur-Rehman
      Published Aug. 4, 2020
""""At independence in 1947, Hindus composed 20.5 percent of the population of the areas that now form Pakistan. In the following decades, the percentage shrank rapidly, and by 1998 - the last government census to classify people by religion - Hindus were just 1.6 percent of Pakistan’s population. Most estimates say it has further dwindled in the past two decades.
Once a melting pot of religions, Sindh Province, where the conversion ceremony took place, has seen minority members flee to other countries in droves in recent decades. Many face harsh discrimination, as well as the specter of violence - and the risk of being accused of blasphemy, a capital crime - if they speak out against it.
“The dehumanization of minorities coupled with these very scary times we are living in - a weak economy and now the pandemic - we may see a raft of people converting to Islam to stave off violence or hunger or just to live to see another day,” said Farahnaz Ispahani, a former Pakistani lawmaker who is now a senior fellow at the Religious Freedom Institute, a research group in Washington.""""

      here is another report 2011"
1."""Text books in Pakistani schools foster prejudice and intolerance of Hindus and other religious minorities, while most teachers view non-Muslims as ''enemies of Islam,'' according to a study by a US government commission ""
      2. Researchers visited 37 public schools, interviewing 277 students and teachers, and 19 madrases, where they interviewed 226 students and teachers.
      3. ''Religious minorities are often portrayed as inferior or second-class citizens who have been granted limited rights and privileges by generous Pakistani Muslims, for which they should be grateful,'' the report said.
      4. ''Hindus are repeatedly described as extremists and eternal enemies of Islam whose culture and society is based on injustice and cruelty, while Islam delivers a message of peace and brotherhood, concepts portrayed as alien to the Hindu.''
      5. In 2011 Annual Report, USCIRF found that textbooks used in Pakistani
primary and secondary schools foster prejudice and intolerance of religious minorities, especially Hindus and Christians. Such intolerant references are not restricted to
Islamic studies textbooks: they are found in both early elementary and more advanced
social studies texts used by all public school students, including non-Muslims.

    Blasphemy Law
Sections 295 and 298 of Pakistan’s Penal Code criminalize acts and
speech insulting religion or defiling the Qur’an, the Prophet Muhammad, places of worship, or religious symbols. These vague provisions
are frequently abused to levy false accusations against Shi’a Muslims,
Ahmadiyya Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, and others who do
not adhere to the majority Sunni interpretation of Islam. Cases often
violate legal procedures, and judges come under extreme pressure
from religious groups to convict. The law sets severe punishments,
including the death penalty. Although some individuals have received
death sentences and others have died in detention while awaiting
trial, Pakistan has not executed anyone for blasphemy. Even lawyers
defending those charged with blasphemy, presiding judges, and
individuals speaking against the law are targeted. Pakistani lawyer Saif
ul Malook-who has successfully overturned several convictions for
blasphemy cases, including those of Asia Bibi and of Shagufta Kausar
and her husband Shafqat Emanuel-said he and others like him face
    grave danger from extremists.

You were right that it might not have been drop from 22% to 1.8%, but it is 14.60% to 1.58%...and still its a huge difference, unless you just want to sweep it under the carpet. Secondly you would get a better treatment if the locals feel you are not just some poor hindu girl, which would be very evident from your accent. So stop whitewashing everything just because you had better experience. There are lot of videos/ documentaries on youtube itself, just go through those and you would know the pain of ordinary hindus living in Pakistan.

In 1941, the population was 14.6%. That was BEFORE the partition. By the same data set, you can see that the Hindu population has increased very modestly since 1951 🤦🏽‍♀
THIS IS WHAT YOUR SOURCE SAYS:
Hinduism (%) in Pakistan by decades
      Year Percent Increase/Decrease
      1901 17.07% -
      1911 14.09% −2.98%

Between 1941 and 1951, the partition happened and there was a decline in Hindu population of course because of the partition in 1947. After that, there is no decrease, actually there is a very small increase.
