Iirc it's this: fish have an organ that's basically just a balloon they can fill up and empty at will and it helps them to stay at a certain 'altitude' in the water. If you catch a fish and get it outside of the water, sometimes they release the water from the 'balloon' and it gets filled up with air. Then if you throw the fish in the water again, it floats. I'm pretty sure it's harmless and they release the air and fill up on water eventually, but don't quote me on that.

For anyone wondering why the fish floated... Iirc it's this: fish have an organ that's basically just a balloon they can fill up and empty at will and it helps them to stay at a certain 'altitude' in the water. If you catch a fish and get it outside of the water, sometimes they release the water from the 'balloon' and it gets filled up with air. Then if you throw the fish in the water again, it floats. I'm pretty sure it's harmless and they release the air and fill up on water eventually, but don't quote me on that.
Here I was thinking the stress of getting caught had stunned or killed it. 🤷
