21:22 I agree John but the trick is to do that without a bunch of cameos in each movie. Cameos aren’t as fun anymore because there’s too many of them and not done well. Here’s an example you could connect movies maybe talk about the giant arm on the planet since The Eternals that it seems with every movie no one talks about.
1-Play ball with Sony to help produce the best product(loan out some of the characters). 2-More stand alone movies and shows. 3-Elseworld movies for the characters that are no longer part of the canon(e.g. grittier R rated Ironman, animated Captain America movie, Black Widow/Hawkeye video game). 4-Keep The Defenders serperate from The Avengers. Keep the same team that brought us the awesome shows from 10 years ago. With the same vision and feel. 5-Take a break from Multiverse stuff for atleast 8-10 years. 6-Introduce a Big Bad that would be the glue for the next phase. MEPHISTO and the accursed(Evil Doctor Strange, Hela, Dr Doom,Scarlett Witch and Agatha Harkness). Which would lead to the big bad of the next phase. Dr Doom, who claims The Heart of The Universe at the end of the next phase. Resulting all the heroes and villains banding together to try to stop Dr Doom from ending all of existence.
One of the things that made Marvel work was the constant state of anticipation. Each movie built up toward the bigger story and the expansion of the MCU. Now Marvel has lost that. Even a good movie like Spider-Man 3 or Guardians 3 or Shang Chi didn't create a sense of anticipation for what's next. I fear the same thing will happen with Deadpool. Part if the problem with the MCU movies and shows is that their interconnected nature is a selling point while pushing away potential audiences. One way to solve the problem is to release 2 weeks before every movie or show a short "last time on Marvel" video narrated by a beloved supporting character. So people will be able to catch up in a fun way without following every output.
Re: character deaths, in x-men: days of future past, it was poignant when Mystique saw the file of all the mutants' autopsies because it made clear the stakes that the government was doing everything to combat the "mutant threat."
It all comes down to: write good stories and make them look spectacular. I haven't lost faith and yeah I haven't been as excited but I try to remember they are movies and to have fun. Make them epic movies again and people will come back. Keep Disney+ shows for street level characters with less VFX as well.
Marvel Studios made possibly their biggest ever mistake by doing the multiverse saga now. They should have done a cosmic saga, then the mutant saga, THEN the multiverse saga. It’s too soon. For the cosmic saga Galactus should have been the main villain and fantastic 4 should have been brought in very early to be the main characters like iron man was and they should have had AT LEAST 2 movies before the next avengers movie so we get to know them just like Tony. Then they could have had all the stuff going on on earth during this saga aswell with Spider-Man, Black Panther, Sam Wilson etc. Wasted potential
I completely agree with John, marvel hasn’t been the same. A movie hasn’t felt this hyped since end game. Knowing we are going to see Deadpool and Wolverine on screen makes heads turn on its own
For me I think they need to bring back mentions of the old characters like bucky telling yela about Steve and thor explaining hawkeye about the guardians, plus Carol talking to strange about the multiverse and hulk and spider man talking about the incursions, and that etc, they really explain the story with daredevil and moon Knight
I'm reminded of A.O. Scott's closing lines of his review for Revenge of the Sith, which I think applies to marvel as a well right now, "Movies end. Life goes on".
As an avid Marvel fan that has read thousands of their comics, the problem Marvel is facing now is that it has burned through 90% of good storylines. With the extreme rare exception, anytime a comic book movie has distanced itself from proven material, it failed.
@@joshbohrer2612problem is it would be ungodly expensive. For it to work, you need to bring back the actors associated with those roles. Iron Man alone would cost at least 50 million.
Completely agree with all of this. Especially the first two more obvious points. If they really slow down their frequency of movie releases and make each one a high quality film, they’ll get their reputation back. Maybe not to the levels of pre-endgame but I think they can get close.
If Deadpool & Wolverine is terrible people are gonna blame Disney for it but if it’s good they’ll say "that’s technically Ryan Reynolds movie it doesn’t count as a proper MCU film"
I think after endgame, we should’ve gotten a wind down of movies showing the aftermath and then dealing with Iron Man‘s death. And we should’ve in 2021 or 2022 gotten the first movie in the soft reboot featuring one of the X-Men as its main character followed by several other movies featuring X-Men sprinkled with other Marvel movies in between eventually leading to collaboration of X-Men by this point recasted or other world members of the avengers joined the 10 year plan ending with another endgame event. I feel like Marvel wants to re-create the success it had with endgame and infinity war, but they want to skip the build up. They forget it was pretty much a 10 year hype machine.

@@benm5970 as John listed on the show itself the severe lacking of quality hiring in both show running, directing and writing still continues to this current day with the exception of DD. "Once you are at the top, the haters come out and try to bring you down". See, this is what happens with a lot of things that are popular. When you're the best, everyone else will hate you for it. The MCU had been one of the most popular franchises for a long time and it’s got to the point where people desperately what to see this franchise crumble.
It's not so much that people want it to crumble...it's just that, it isn't as good as it used to be. Simple as that People aren't hating just to hate. Like at gotg 3 Also, endgame felt like...well...the end. And now peole have moved on, hence the not so great box office numbers here and there
Regarding deaths in MCU, I only considered a fake death when the movie finishes with a character dead and in the next they come up with an excuse to ressurect them. That being said apart from the Snap, only Loki and Coulson come to mind, but Coulson it's kinda not canon.
I don’t think the Disney plus shows were a bad idea. They’ve just been ok or a straight up miss. And their run times make them feel cheap, and leaves the audience cheated. There’s no meat on the bones of the shows. And they go by so quick. Tv is bigger now than it’s ever been. It’s not a bad medium to extend the mcu in. But Disney has been trying to half ass it an expect fans to flock to it solely out of brand loyalty to marvel. Now I say if you’re gonna have 30 minute episodes then scrap that shit completely. The majority of the marvel Disney plus shows felt like movies split into 6 parts. I feel like they’re trying to do the shows and make them as cheap to produce as possible.
John I disagree about your take on Disney +. You do shows that culminate into a movie. Depends on the stories and execution. And you could also do a movie and then add depth and tell side stories (spin off) on Disney + based on the story laid out from the movie. It could work either way.
The difference is all the movies used to be made like a monster of the week TV show. They all had their own big bad and they all ended with a bow with a little bit of bigger avenger type stuff sprinkled in now every movie has to be this huge crossover event with multiple characters ,fan service And endgame like expectations . Endgame was a culmination of over 20 movies and dozens of individual stories.
What if you want to incorporate heroes from Disney + shows to movies? Let say Daredevil. What if you want him to be in the movies and interact with the other characters?
Multiverse Saga should have been about a multiversal team called the illuminati led by Dr. Doom who is going around destroying universes in the background of the movies until we get the movie universe and have a showsown
Marvel said they bringing Wesley Snipes back as Blade in the Multiverse💥 that's a huge step going into the right direction..make more R rated comic book movies✔️ make great PG-13 movies again too!
Antman and the Wasp Quantamania - 476 million dollars (lower than the first 2 Antman movies, which were the some of the lowest earning MCU movies at the time). The Marvels made 200 million dollars, by far the lowest MCU movie financially. And they're only having one movie this year. To focus more on quality, which is a good thing, but still. Also I guess just a general feeling of lack of excitment for the films (other than Deadpool 3, which the excitment comes mostly from previous X-Men characters).
Here’s a couple things I think they should do Stop introducing so many new characters- I like that the MCU wants to give us some new characters but they’ve just been doing way too much of it lately, it feels ever since Endgame we’ve gotten like 14 new characters and it’s only been 5 years since that movie, like John said, I think the smarter approach is by having a mix of the newcomers and the veterans to slowly usher us into the new age, but they’ve just been throwing us headfirst into the new age lately, introduce the Fantastic Four but keep Spider-Man around for a while, give us Blade but let us be with Ant Man for a bit longer, because it helps make the transition easier, I’m excited to see some of these new characters but I don’t want it to feel like the ones I’m familiar with are just going to immediately disappear once they’re introduced Don’t make the Disney+ shows essential to understanding the MCU- While I’ve enjoyed some of the ones they’ve put out I ultimately think that Marvel making the Disney+ shows was a mistake, partly because it felt like with a few exceptions like Wandavision or She Hulk most of the Disney+ shows just felt like MCU movies that they cut up and disguised as tv shows because they wanted to make a bunch of exclusive content for Disney+ when it was first starting out, but also because they’ve chosen to make the shows essential watches for understanding the story of the MCU, even though other than us movie fans most average moviegoers don’t watch these shows and thus they don’t understand some of the things they see in later MCU movies like who Ms Marvel is and things like that, I feel like the approach they should be taking is having the Disney+ shows be like side missions in a video game, where you have the option to do them if you want to, you can get a little more lore out of them as a result but they aren’t *ESSENTIAL* to the main story and you can still understand the whole story without doing them, that way the hardcore fans have some extra content if they want and at the same time none of the causal audience will be lost by not seeing it
One other thing I think should’ve happened is , two different worlds when it comes to movies and shows. I would’ve loved if None of the shows on Disney+ existed . And instead, the first show we got from marvel was The Avengers 813 or whatever number they please, and for the show to be about the avengers from another universe recast everybody for tv . And then an X-Men also casted separately from the MCU with its own stories , We are grown up to enough to understand that the TV shows and the movies would be different universes and are no way connected, except they could’ve eventually led to secret wars, where we get characters from the TV shows and characters from the movies to fight each other lol
I'm happy I'm one of the few who didn't jump on the bandwagon that Marvel was finished. They had a hiccup...big deal. I never had a doubt that both Marvel and DC will come back stronger with their movies. People forget that COVID did a number on everyone.
Deadpool 3 looks like a lot of fun, but I’m not exactly shooting my lo*d over here. Marvel isn’t going to make a 180 anytime soon. They will be on decline for another 5-10 years.
Lets be real, Kang has never been a cool villian and was a pathetic replacement for Thanos. Trying to build a franchise around a lame villian with boring powers that old man cap can beat with a single punch was a bad idea.
Tony, Steve, Quicksilver, Wanda, Natasha, T’Chala, Queen Romonda, Coulson (AoS is no longer canon), Yondu, Peggy and Vision have all died. That’s quite a lot of characters for a fake death universe. That’s not to mention Gamora who is dead because the version in Guardians 3 is completely different to the one we knew. I understand what you mean if we were in 2018 - but now you can’t say that characters don’t die because they definitely do
@@RoyConwell wasn’t there a big ‘in memoriam’ in Spiderman: Far From Home and Steve was on it. I thought that was the confirmation that he died an old man

Well here's the thing with D+. U first ought to have a grand overarching story of plan fr the next couple of yrs. Then, every project u release whether it's a movie or show ( although i really wouldn't call them shows. They really are just 4 hr movies) shld either be part of that storyline or seperate from it. In the sense they will still be inside the MCU but won't really play a role in this overarching story. They'll have their seperate adventures in self contained series.
The number is skewed. It's taking the Superbowl commercial viewership number. I believe the movie will hit the Billion dollar club. Excited for the movie but remember the trailer viewership number is skewed
I could be wrong, but I don't think Marvel movies are going to hit a billion again until they've been consistently releasing bangers for awhile. I don't even see any hype for Deadpool among average people, just the hardcore fans.
You said you didn’t want stuff to connect then 5 minutes later you said you want them to connect 🤔😂 in my opinion, they need to be more picky about who gets D+ shows
I agree the streaming interlocking with the movies could make the causal movie blockbuster goer confused and what didn’t help was the roll out of the multiverse I still don’t get the ending of Loki or wtf happened his a tree 🌲 whoa ok huh ? And quantamania Kang confused people because they didn’t watch LOKI so there’s the problem interlocking with the shows just make movies and great script quality leave the streaming for special event movies or shows
People did not like Shang Chi because he is asian, they like because its a good story. Representation does not matter as long as you make a good and entertaining story.
🤔 since we’re doing a multiverse saga they should’ve thought ahead and actually made the Disney plus shows in other universes with different actors. They own the IP so they can use the names and same costumes and save money while introducing the fans to the multiverse. I think that would’ve been cool.
@@johncampea I just wanted Marvel to be more creative with their films by shooting them the old fashioned way like they did from Iron Man 1 to Thor 1. All of the other MCU films shot digitally and I hate that! I just want them to be more creative again
A fad like marvel is like anything else that comes and goes. It's a fact, fads are generational. Fads usually last at best 10 years. Even the Beatles had their best years last only a decade. After that, people move on to the next best thing. So Marvel nor Disney can be faulted for anything. If they buck this trend, then good for them.
You can tell the MCU has become a mess. I miss the hype around it every time there's a new project coming out. Now, it's like the people in charge of creating the stories don't even care anymore. Even the end credit scenes feel uninspired. Before, they are exciting and interesting. Even the "worthless" ones were at least really funny and worth waiting for. Now, they're just trailers for the next show. I'd come out of the movies just thinking wtf? why'd you waste even more of my time?
It’s not that difficult. When you have all those comic book series and you KNOW what comic series sold more than others. You have the data on the characters and story lines marvel comic fans would want to see in live action. The big problem is not the amount of content coming out it’s the choice of character and story. Who cares about ms marvel? Or those fake new characters you created from Disney +? Go back to the source material and you’ll find stories and characters comic fans loved and would want to see on the big screen OR Disney +.
Now with avengers 5 and secret wars movies near the counter this the time to have incursions Deadpool and Wolverine will have a lot of incursions cause many heroes and villains are on the void and incursions will make people cry again like endgame or turning into spaghetti like Loki season 2 episode 6
Anyone who says interconnectedness is a problem is outright lying and are intentionally ignoring the stories that have come out. Everything they've released has been far more interconnected then anything they've released during the phase 1 and 2 era. The problem with them being so interconnected is that you lose out on each story being a jumping on point.

in other word people who had nothing to do with Feige and were brought over from a $70 billion price tag from Fox
Yo you cooked
Totally agree!
I agree with all your points john campea
Either you die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
How does that save the MCU?
But even Kevin Feige said his former boss forced him to push out as many Marvel movies as he could
He should have threatened to quit.
I'm reminded of A.O. Scott's closing lines of his review for Revenge of the Sith, which I think applies to marvel as a well right now, "Movies end. Life goes on".
Idk what it is but this format feels much better than what you were doing
22:55 | Get over yourself
25:38 | Spike Lee's next movie😂
Ant-Man should've died in Quantumania.
Hank Pym at least
As an avid Marvel fan that has read thousands of their comics, the problem Marvel is facing now is that it has burned through 90% of good storylines. With the extreme rare exception, anytime a comic book movie has distanced itself from proven material, it failed.
They should do AvX.
This gushing of Deadpool 3 is setting up expectations way too high.
26:15 Pietro, Gamora, Loki, Black Widow, Maria Hill, Aunt May, Yondu, Phil Coulson, Heimdall, Ajak, Ikiris, and Iron Man
Queen Ramona died saving someone else
They way they killed of Maria Hill is just stupid. That whole show was stupid
Right?
If Deadpool & Wolverine is terrible people are gonna blame Disney for it but if it’s good they’ll say "that’s technically Ryan Reynolds movie it doesn’t count as a proper MCU film"
Yup, people wanna keep the glory out of Disney’s hands but are more than happy to let them have the blame
Give the Avengers a break and go full X-Men.
I do agree with John, and what the MCU should do to succeed in future film and series projects
John been saying no one dies in the MCU but all the damn villians are dead. Stop it 🤣
Not enough heroes stay dead in the MCU
@@antariksh4894 That I get you can say that but even then Yondu died never came back, Quicksilver too, so for John to keep saying "Fake Death" universe is incorrect.
Point 8.
Black Widow, No Way Home, Multiverse of Madness, Love and Thunder, Wakanda Forever, WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Hawkeye, Quantumania, GOTG3, The Marvels, Secret Invasion all contained OG characters.
Shang Chi, Eternals, Ms Marvel, She-Hulk, Echo contain new characters. Quite clearly there is more OG and new.
She Hulk, Ms Marvel and Shang Chi also had OG characters there aswell - maybe for only a few minutes but they were there.
@@joshhunt4146If that's the case then Black Widow, Multive of Madness, FATWS, Loki all had new characters
@@aaron827 yep but it’s impossible to have any film or show without at least one new character 😂😂 that’s not that big of a deal - it’s the same with any franchise
I totally forgot to mention Moon Knight. The ratio of OG characters is still higher.

Well what do you mean by “What it was”? Again, that to me sounds like a case of putting up a wall between what you grew up with and everything new, what reason is there to believe that Marvel can never match the quality of the Infinity Saga ever again no matter what they do?
@@benm5970 as John listed on the show itself the severe lacking of quality hiring in both show running, directing and writing still continues to this current day with the exception of DD. However that was done out desperation not a planned move. The lacking of just giving fans iconic characters as they should be unaltered and no alternative versions ie taskmaster, recently Silver Surfer. Questionable casting choices for roles on a multitude of levels. Also I never said the McU can’t get back to being successful but it won’t be the titan it was. Many people have checked out of the MCU they’ve just moved on and the amount of alternative content today likely won’t come back regardless of what films or shows they do to some degree. The still lacking of quality leadership at Disney and Marvel can’t be ignored either.
Phase 1 was considered crap back in the day and half of phase 2 was to. People are blinded by rose tinted glasses. Mcu never dropped fans just got done with phase 3 which was the high point. The new saga is not much different. Phase 4 and 5 are just phase 1 and 2 of the multiverse saga which I'd about introducing new characters and concepts. Phase 6 is were thr pay will look good
A lot of the MCU's issues the last few years stemmed from Chapek's "quantity over quality" bs. Hopefully, the quality returns.
Enough said John campea I 💯agree with everything you have said in this video including diversity because I have grown up let’s hope Kevin figie and bob iger see this video of yours
Hulk vs wolverine movie / spider man 4 being good / replace avengers with good new characters mixed with already known good characters/ make movies on what fans want to see
"Once you are at the top, the haters come out and try to bring you down".
Simple as that
People aren't hating just to hate. Like at gotg 3
Also, endgame felt like...well...the end.
And now peole have moved on, hence the not so great box office numbers here and there
Please tel me you guys will post the show even though it wasn’t live
Regarding deaths in MCU, I only considered a fake death when the movie finishes with a character dead and in the next they come up with an excuse to ressurect them.
That being said apart from the Snap, only Loki and Coulson come to mind, but Coulson it's kinda not canon.
@JohnCampea 😂when you said…”I do declare ..!!
It reminds me of loveless from Will Smith’s Wild Wild West
As a black man i think the MCU should make every character a 40 year old white man 😂😂😂

Good idea, bad execution. It just proved that they shouldn't have axed their tv division.
John I disagree about your take on Disney +. You do shows that culminate into a movie. Depends on the stories and execution. And you could also do a movie and then add depth and tell side stories (spin off) on Disney + based on the story laid out from the movie. It could work either way.
It shouldn't feel like homework if it is good. If all the content was amazing people will want to watch it.
All great points.
Quicksilver's death doesn't even count, since they introduced him in that same movie and didn't really give us a chance to get attached.
What if you want to incorporate heroes from Disney + shows to movies? Let say Daredevil. What if you want him to be in the movies and interact with the other characters?
They tried that with The Marvels and it failed. But Daredevil will be a little different because Matt already was in the movies.
He got semi-introduced in No Way Home, so it wouldn't feel as out of nowhere.
Biggest problem is people are apparently to lazy to watch a d+ show before a. Movie 😂
Why do people act like Marvel is not still dominating?
What movie studio right now is doing better than Marvel?
Or even rivals it
Universal out-grossed Disney in global box office in 2023 and thus far in 2024 Disney doesn’t have a single film in the box office top 10.
10:25 plus secret Invasion bc that 💩 doesn't make sense to canon at all
Werewolf By Night was Cool, they should do Disney Plus shows like that.
Here’s a couple things I think they should do
Stop introducing so many new characters- I like that the MCU wants to give us some new characters but they’ve just been doing way too much of it lately, it feels ever since Endgame we’ve gotten like 14 new characters and it’s only been 5 years since that movie, like John said, I think the smarter approach is by having a mix of the newcomers and the veterans to slowly usher us into the new age, but they’ve just been throwing us headfirst into the new age lately, introduce the Fantastic Four but keep Spider-Man around for a while, give us Blade but let us be with Ant Man for a bit longer, because it helps make the transition easier, I’m excited to see some of these new characters but I don’t want it to feel like the ones I’m familiar with are just going to immediately disappear once they’re introduced
Don’t make the Disney+ shows essential to understanding the MCU- While I’ve enjoyed some of the ones they’ve put out I ultimately think that Marvel making the Disney+ shows was a mistake, partly because it felt like with a few exceptions like Wandavision or She Hulk most of the Disney+ shows just felt like MCU movies that they cut up and disguised as tv shows because they wanted to make a bunch of exclusive content for Disney+ when it was first starting out, but also because they’ve chosen to make the shows essential watches for understanding the story of the MCU, even though other than us movie fans most average moviegoers don’t watch these shows and thus they don’t understand some of the things they see in later MCU movies like who Ms Marvel is and things like that, I feel like the approach they should be taking is having the Disney+ shows be like side missions in a video game, where you have the option to do them if you want to, you can get a little more lore out of them as a result but they aren’t *ESSENTIAL* to the main story and you can still understand the whole story without doing them, that way the hardcore fans have some extra content if they want and at the same time none of the causal audience will be lost by not seeing it
One other thing I think should’ve happened is , two different worlds when it comes to movies and shows.
😂😂 11:20 Ray dropping gems then surprised
I'm happy I'm one of the few who didn't jump on the bandwagon that Marvel was finished. They had a hiccup...big deal. I never had a doubt that both Marvel and DC will come back stronger with their movies. People forget that COVID did a number on everyone.
Covid effected everything..except No Way Home
Deadpool 3 looks like a lot of fun, but I’m not exactly shooting my lo*d over here. Marvel isn’t going to make a 180 anytime soon. They will be on decline for another 5-10 years.
14:53 the fact you have to ask is not a good sign 😂
The transformers: the movie is a classic and the fans learned to love it.
Lets be real, Kang has never been a cool villian and was a pathetic replacement for Thanos. Trying to build a franchise around a lame villian with boring powers that old man cap can beat with a single punch was a bad idea.
Yesssss, thank you
Tony, Steve, Quicksilver, Wanda, Natasha, T’Chala, Queen Romonda, Coulson (AoS is no longer canon), Yondu, Peggy and Vision have all died. That’s quite a lot of characters for a fake death universe. That’s not to mention Gamora who is dead because the version in Guardians 3 is completely different to the one we knew.
I understand what you mean if we were in 2018 - but now you can’t say that characters don’t die because they definitely do
Steve is not dead. He is an old man living off the grid somewhere.

It all starts with good writing...oh and Kevin. I'm actually really worried for the MCU, If "Special K" departs.....I don't see things going well for marvel. I personally hope Kevin stays and oversees the MCU for the foreseeable future. And then trains is successor.
Actually 2 have stayed dead. Obadiah Stain/Iron Monger from IRON MAN has stayed dead and then yes, Quick Sliver for #2.
@rhetro777 I see your point across but I have a feeling that this movie will be a rewatchable film that will generate buzz.

Split the universes!!!! MCU and MTU!!!

I hope Kevin see this video 😅
