@titan-tm7kl @suthobay Lets refer to the sinking of the Lusitania. The Captain of the Lusitania did his absolute best given the dire situation after the torpedo hit. He did end up surviving the sinking by simply swimming off the ship in its final moments. He was rescued after spending several hours afloat in the sea. The aftermath and investigation of the sinking was very messy and filled with corruption, and during this Captain Turner was brought on many charges, some accusing him of being involved with planning the attack from the u-boat. He was cleared of all charges but retired, forever haunted by the sinking and the accusations against him.

Smith was in disbelief during the entire sinking. He knew it was his last voyage before retirement. Apparently it’s easier to accept death than later to be responsible for the death of 1500 people and endure persecution from the relatives of the victims all their lives, as was the case with the captain of Indianapolis, who at one moment could not stand the shame and humiliation and shot himself .
What makes it even more sad was that this was his last voyage and he was going to retire after 30 years of being a Captain. He felt relieved and finally free to live out his days until this happens and everything, your plans for retirement don’t matter now because you know you can’t live with yourself if you survive or not. I’m sure the captain would have survived had everyone been saved.
I really like the old standard amongst sailors that the captain is last to abandon ship and that all life must be saved before theirs. It really puts emphasis on getting people to safety and making sure that every life is accounted for and safe. The same cannot be said for a few horrible disasters in the past few decades... In fact, in just the past decade and a few years alone has seen way too many tragedies like this...

But this seen was I didn’t understand but I do now especially being older, I salute the captain and everyone on the Titanic. I hope they are all at peace this is making cry again🥺
That’s so sad. He probably feels responsible for everyone’s death, which is not exactly his fault. The ice berg was hidden and to no fault of his own. They say all captains go down with their ship and at least he saved as much people as possible first ❤
The Titanic was sent multiple Messages saying that there was Icebergs in the area. Instead of slowing down they chose to continue at the high speed they were already at. Not to mention they lost the keys to the binoculars which would of helped the guys on the lookout to spot icebergs from further away. Then when they spotted the Iceberg they put the ship into reverse and started turning it. What they should of done was keep the speed and turn the ship that way the ship would turn faster to avoid the iceberg. Or they could of hit the iceberg head on and damage a couple of watertight compartments at the front of the ship. Just like her Sister Ship did. She suffered damage to a couple watertight compartments and didn't sink/founder. It was because of this damage that the Titanic was delayed actually. Her Sister Ship used parts from the Titanic for repairs.
From the book, A Night To Remember, a Survivor swears that in the dark water they had heard the voice of Captain Smith as he was in the water. The Survivor and a group of other men had stood on a flotation to escape the water. The man said that the voice laughed and loved their ingenuity and saying "Good lads, Good lads". He refused to get on the piece in fear of getting the device capsized. The voice chose to stay in the water. The Survivor spent the rest of his life swearing that this voice belonged to Captain Smith. Neither Smith or Thomas Andrews, the chief engineer of Titanic, were ever recovered. Smith was to retire after this voyage and he was going to spend more time with his wife and daughter. @@mikethebike2456 Thomas Andrew’s, the ships head carpenter who was on the ship with a team to review the first voyage. He is the guy who reviewed the damage at the mail /boiler rooms and knew the ship was screwed.
Anyway, you probably already knew that. The longest theory of his passing was that he died in the first class smoking parlor. Because an eye witness saw him there in a daze setting the clock on the mantle. That’s where he is portrayed last being in titanic and a night to remember. There is another witness though, who claims to suggest that Andrew’s snapped out of it and started helping officers with last remaining boats and was seen with captain smith watching the water rise up over the wheel house. The then both jumped overboard. The point being made was that he may have been seen with the captain.

The Version (1997) is much more moving and heartbreaking, because it transmits a deep and melancholic sadness, the same one that Captain Edward Smith perhaps felt that night, while he watched in disbelief as his colossal and unsinkable ship named "TITANIC" "Little by little it sank and disappeared into the icy waters of the North Atlantic.

There's also The Unsinkable Molly Brown that partially covered the titanic. Kathy Bates played her in the 97 movie.

Titanic
Despite the tradition of 'the captain goes down with the ship', he would have faced a lifetime of humiliation and shame, especially through the media and the relatives of those whose lives were lost. The honorable thing was to essentially give up his life rather than face the burden of what awaited him on land.
It's Ridiculous rule so long as you made every effort to save life you should be entitled to live
@@samplingrater8411 well I suppose the rule comes from the era of many well meaning but unnecessary rules like the women and children first rule which is fine until someone interprets that as women and children only and male's die unnecessary on Charles lightollers side of the ship and with Lusitania that was Pure chance he made it off in the first place and the idea that you must sacrifice your life is just crazy I certainly wouldn't have wanted to be a sea captain if it had a death clause lol I understand as captain you fullfil your duties but it was a death sentence especially in the age of less lifeboat seats to passenger ratio
That's what happened to Bruce Ismay, the chairman of white star line at the time. He was criticised for surviving the titanic instead of sacrificing his seat and for his role in encouraging captain Smith to go faster. This sent him into a state of deep depression from which he never truly recovered.

@@Rio_VRstop noob capitain hero you no!!!!!!!!!! 😡😡😠
@smith-murdoch-oficirLow-androw
1.He failed to slow down and ran at full speed in the pitch black. That decision alone was massively negligent.
2. He ignored iceberg warnings throughout the day. Including one from a near by ship that had stopped due to the danger.
3.After spotting the iceberg, First Officer William Murdoch ordered the ship to turn to starboard (right) and attempted to avoid the iceberg by executing a maneuver known as "hard-a-starboard." However, it is believed that Captain Smith countermanded this order and instead instructed the ship to continue on its original course, believing that the ship would be able to clear the iceberg. This decision proved to be disastrous.

This scene could represent something unknown about the Titanic: some say that at this moment, while panic and chaos spread, the captain shouted: "Behave like British!"
I thought it was "Be British boys. Be British"
Britishers at that time were powerful, wise and yeah kind of cruel to some extent, but they never allowed enemies to stab them from within the British soil. Now look at the same britain in 2023, in the verge to surrender before islamic terrorists. Did you guys see what is happening in France, your neighbour? Much worse stuffs are awaiting you guys, unless you use your brains. Call a spade a spade. Best wishes. Hope Britain will remain as Britain, not some islumic emirates of England and Wales.

The whole Titanic Story even it was in a time so long ago touches your heart and you feel for all those that perished.
Smith was in disbelief during the entire sinking. He knew it was his last voyage before retirement. He was getting older as well and not as focused on his own duties yet relying on the officers to do most of the work. Captain also cancelled a life boat drill right before the voyage
Problem with that was the officers didn’t relay the most important messages to him not to mention ice warnings The “I can’t believe this is really happening…” Look.
Considering everything though he did what he could under the most dire of circumstances and never abandoned ship
Captain smith one of the best ship captains in the world he known that he was the captain and he loved the ship so he died with it
I don't think that it was his love for the ship. It was rather that he believed that captain is the last to leave the ship. Since a lot of people still were on board of Titanic, he just refused to leave it.
Well i didnt acually research why he went down with the ship on google so i just guessed he loved the ship. no hate though
Maybe because he knew that is was also his own fault, because he told to speed up the ship even with an Iceberg warning and he felt guilty.

It must’ve sucked for the Captain knowing he had to die when it was First Officer Murdoch who was in charge when it hit the iceberg
Not like it was Murdoch's fault either, there was a false horizon that night
All lives on the ship are his sole responsibility.
The captains death was one of my favorite and saddest scenes, I almost cried the second he had died in there, true heroes will never be forgotten.

Hi dear
Stupidity took his life there was multiple warning has been given to him to Slow down the ship 😢😢
@thesimsfan12 The messages were ignored by the ships relay officer and the last warning he said shut up shut up I'm working
This scene always makes me cry, and I’m crying again! Rest in peace captain Smith❤❤
His daughter was 13 when he died and she reportedly kissed the actor on the cheek that played Smith in the 1958 A Night To Remember movie. She bursted into tears cause he looked just like her dad. His daughter was now in her early 60's and still missed her dad
