This is easily the finest episode still in existence of this great series. Watching the unshakable John Hardy becoming more and more alarmed as he realizes he may have been involved in a miscarriage of justice is riveting. The story is interesting and not easily solved, and the acting is top notch all the way across the whole cast. John Woodnutt is a particular standout as the unfortunate convict.
Excellent comment. This is one of our favourite episodes and we've watched it many times. Hardy's usually highly professional demeanour is really shaken and we love the scene near the end when he's clearly drunk and has trouble trying to get up off his couch. Glad you enjoyed it!
Exactly what I was thinking - ditto - this was brilliantly and compellingly written, acted, directed - I've not seen all but perhaps the most powerful and best episode.
I wish he had asked her! I didn't like that Doctor Tim bloke she was going out with in the last episode 'Tainted Money'. Too smug. I love the dismissive way John said 'Tim' when they came in from the theatre and then sent him off to make coffee and sandwiches. LOL! I bit jealous? @@Milton1079
Have you watched the last episode of Season 3? Jo Hardy is shot by accident by Brian Blessed's character who has kidnapped a teenager for ransom. Jo had gone into the house to tend to the boy as he had developed double pneumonia. She is still alive at the end of the episode but in the first episode of Season 4, Professor Hardy's assistant explains to Susan that she relapsed and died. I don't know why Ann Morrish didn't choose to reprise her role as Jo Hardy but must have decided not to and so they wrote her character out.@@Milton1079
I would suggest that almost every case would need re-assessing as technology, equipment, tests, chemistry, physics, other sciences improve, progress and change. Especially those relying on blood, skin, hair and other items that can be verified, or otherwise, by DNA testing.
i do think the profs vanity is ruling him here..Because the real picture is false hopes, no new evidence and all his fellow investigators just looking bad?
This episode truly reveals the full range of Marius Goring's acting abilities.

Makes you understand all the DNA tests today and all it's freed..science is always there but how we read it changes..
Strange I found this the most powerful episode, brilliantly written and acted.
TY for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it! It's one of my favourite Expert episodes. We watch it often! And the acting is great, isn't it?

Thank you
Great script , magnificent acting .
Excelliant!
What a good story ! 😮.
Yes, we love this episode and watch it often.
a good cast of Doctor Who alumni
For a moment there, I thought the old boy was going to pop the question to his secretary.
Yes, we were hoping he would! He's obviously very fond of her!
And she of him. I think she might just have accepted.

Yes, quite possibly jealous. Do you know why/how Jo Hardy was 'killed off'? I believe the actor playing Dr Tim was a police constable in Z Cars.

Hmph! THIS guy! 24:40 Let’s not try too hard to find innocent people in prison. Sounds like it’ll make a hard time for us. 🙄🤨jeeez, Fella.
If you are exonerated you get nothing. If you do your time you get all sorts of State support.
I can tell you. when exhonerated you get nothing. If you serve your time you get all sorts of rentry and support.
Murder is always committed by criminals, as soon as they murder they are criminals....
