We've just been in Newcastleton two weeks ago. Great and interesting village. The Heritage centre is brilliant and well worth visiting with some great displays on the Waverley Route rail line which closed in 1969. Not tried Elliots butchers yet which is supposed to be excellent. Isabels shop across from the Liddesdale Hotel is a treasure trove if you like vintage and antique stuff! Definately going back soon.
I love your videos. I look forward to them daily. Keep them coming they are fantastic and for me a bit of the UK here in Florida. P.s. I chuckled when Jenny pronounced Hawick exactly like I did when I visited the Borders many years ago only to find out the local pronunciation is nothing like it is spelled. We have similar pronunciation differences here in the US. LOL. Thank you so much for sharing your life and travels with the world!
Looks lovely round and about nice weather too perhaps abit cold not raining keep enjoying and thanks for showing us different places to go to with our motor home
In my husband's old stomping ground Bob & Jenny. Shame you missed Hermitage Castle,my sister in Law is the Tour Guide there in the warmer weather. Also my mother in law lives next to the Bridge it is beautiful there. Thanks for the Vlog,it was nice to see even tho it was very quiet!! Summertime is more busy with music festival etc. Hope you enjoyed your time there 👍🏴
Thanks again for your time and effort in producing these videos which are useful for all. There are several good books covering the History of the Borders and of course the Reivers. Alistair Moffat is an author worth looking up and would interest you both. Nearly 400 years of historical Reiver history that made the few years of the Wild West look tame yet there has never been a film or tv drama which is rather surprising as the events of the time covers everything a good Catherine Cookson novel or Poldark story would....except it would be based on actual historical facts.
Lovely video, thanks for posting! The Liddesdale Heritage Centre has a lot of interesting pictures and history, including a fair few about the railway and its very controversial closure in January 1969. It also tells about the demonstration by around 200 folk who had chained themselves to the level crossing gates by the station on the last night the trains ran, in an effort to show their feelings at the lines closure and stop the last train from coming through. Police were called and they arrested the local Minister, he was only released after David Steel, a local MP at the time and who was travelling on the last train, intervened. Its a travesty that the railway was closed, efforts are being made at present to have it resurrected to restore a through rail link from Carlisle through Newcastleton, Hawick and Melrose to link up with the already restored part of that line from Tweedbank was Edinburgh. There was a tv series made around 1970 , starring Iain Cuthbertson, called "I think" The Borderers ? which "I think" was based around the story of The Border Reivers.
As Northumbrians we regularly walk the border area and love the history from the Roman occupation through to the reivers. But did you know the word bereaved is derived from the reivers, as if you had a visit from them you were likely to be dead........PS you seem to really enjoy the history aspects of your tours are you both history buffs.
Hi both. First, we love your channel and have subscribed. We also have a RUclips channel but ours is based around a more modest (but lovely) VW Campervan and our classic Citroen 2CV. We watch your videos in the hope that one day we are able to purchase a Motorhome. Keep up the excellent work both (including the other stars of your videos 🐶). Just purchased a Gopro Hero 8 Black using your affiliate link 👍
Seems like you've got the nice weather (not that I feel jealous lol). It's a pity you didn't bring the mountain bike Bob but the scenery needs to be seen at a more leisurely pace.
