- Panellist Michelle Dewberry thinks some criminals are "beyond redemption" and that the death penalty is 'justified' in exceptional circumstances.
However Maajid Nawaz thinks that "the value of life" is lower in societies that have capital punishment.

Keeping murderous prisoners is just a waste of taxpayer money.
Unfortunately Michelle didn’t address any of the arguments against her, and despite saying she didn’t want to make it emotional, replied on the emotional reaction.
Maajid is right. Society shouldn’t accept that kind of response
She also said she wouldn't be a 'murderer' yet advocates for someone else to do the job for her.
He was wrong to say that those teenagers were innocent.
@@poopoppy they were.
They made the claim that the death penalty is racially biased, please substantiate that in any way possible.
deathpenaltyinfo.org/executions/executions-overview/executions-by-race-and-race-of-victim
Probably because non-whites are over-represented for violent crime. Idiot leftists will say it’s racism to have ethnic minorities incarcerated at higher rates than whites.
Surely its also sexest by the same logic
@@Jssssssssssssssssds somehow noone figures that point out
jaken Parker .... several studies have conclusively proven that jurors rarely apply the death penalty with women even when they do find guilty of Murder 1 and jurors are much more likely to acquit women over men so yes there is a gender bias for convictions and penalty
Execution has an 100% success stopping people sentenced from committing another crime
Wait a minute. Firstly, Michelle clearly stated, "Where proof is beyond doubt." Secondly, Michelle is not merely advocating the death penalty for murder, but for crimes so horrendous that they are "beyond redemption."
They are happy to allow Ian Huntley to have a life in prison. He is still free in his mind with all his disgusting memories . I hope it doesn't happen to one of their family .
At least for some felony, death penalty is the only reasonable option.
No, never, ever ever ever.
@@mum2jka Maybe a little bit torture before death rope is more appropriate for someone. There is no limit for being bad at least for some.
Yes yes yes yes yes 🙌
no it isn't. revenge is never moral.
Yes - for rapists, pedos and terrorists
Yes, if beyond a shadow of a doubt we should bring back the death penalty ; "Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man." Gen 9:6
China does have a lot of human rights injustices. It is a backward country when it comes to human injustices. I agree with Michelle life should mean life. The sentences for crimes in GB are too lenient!
So if a mentally ill person kills another from psychotic delusions, do they deserve to be executed?
I wonder what the British public would vote for in a referendum?
It would be in the day after if we had a referendum.
" A SOCIETY CAN BE JUDGED BY THE WAY IT TREATS ITS PRISONERS '.. OSCAR WILD.
I’ve never had an issue with the death penalty, euthanasia, or abortion.
We kill innocent people all the time when we invade other countries.
Also, in some ways, the death penalty seems far more humane than keeping someone locked up in a metal box to serve 2 life sentences. That’s just torture.
Jon Venables, for instance, shouldn’t have been let out.
He should never have been let out your right there. What the two of those boys did to poor little jamie bulger was so sickening, they went a bit to far with the things they did to that poor little baby. My son will be two in December and my heart breaks when I think of what they did to that family 👪
Once we put people away in miserable conditions for the rest of their lives, unable to harm anybody, then killing them serves no other purpose than vengeance. It is not the state's job to be vengeful, it is to be just. And that really is all there is to it, imo. Of course I wouldn't think twice about killing someone who would do something horrific to someone I love, but it is the state's job to alleviate that burden from the victim. If every victim decided the fate of their assaulter, all our prisons would be graveyards. A sorry thought.
I think that people will never redeem....no person who commit crimes like murder or rape... shouldn't be forgiven... forgiveness...is just a feeling for people who can't come into reality...death penalty is the perfect one....for even drug addicts...too to prevent innocent people's death by them
Sad to see SKY News turning into the UK's version of CNN!
no bro thats BBC News...
...no wait thats Channel 4 news...
...no one sec thats the sun...
...no hold on thats the Guardian...
...actually, I think all UK News outlets are equal to Americas CNN and are biased to the left and shill for globalism, open borders and less white people.
Perhaps we should trial the death penalty again with returning ISIS militants and do a poll on what the public thinks?
Anybody notice that there's a bracelet that's goes back and forth between a few of the women.
It's just weird!
ITS CERTAINLY NO DETERENT.. NO NORMAL CRIMINAL GOES INTO COMMITTING A CRIME EXPECTING TO GET CAUGHT...
There is a desire to make sure that the punishment fits the crime, but when it comes to the day of the execution, it is hard for me to support it.
I think the death penalty would help in preventing crime. The crime rate is only rising. Countries like Saudi Arabia have lower rates than the UK.
Of course race had to be brought it to.
Because there is a racial bias to sentencing.
ravikothari87 utter rubbish! Nowadays the judicial system is biased towards black people. Everyone is petrified of being called a racist
This question just like could be there any kinds of crime...could be there killers in the world?
Do these crimes have any sort of genetic founding? if so wouldn't allowing them to reproduce even after rehab allow for the corruption of the gene pool?
Killing people is wrong.
Unfortunately Michelle exemplifies a very working class British attitude of a gut feeling dressed up as 'common sense'. I in no way will apologise for my justified snobbery.
I bet Michelle wished she'd never presented the argument - her face says it all!
Don't worry, she'll be back next week with another emotive outburst.
Racial bias ehhh..... also easy counter argument to ‘doesn’t deter’ punishment is not only about deter it is about doing something in return of crime I.e. time in jail or death
Not big on the idea for death penalty but I would consider it for people who in acted a terrorists attack, mass murder or serial killer
Of course it can!!!
There is definitely crimes that warrent the death penalty. But I just don't feel right with giving the state that power. Additionally, I feel we do need much tougher sentences for those that commit extreme crime and should probably never be aloud to see the light of day again.
But at the same time I feel we need to reduce the prison population down, as there are a lot of people in prison that could be punished in more effective manner.
No, never.
SuperLittleTyke: At least Michelle had the guts & the gumption to raise this highly-emotive & controversial subject (Reintroducing the Death Penalty for certain crimes) into the mass-media (A leftist-sympathizing & orientated one at that!) spotlight & public domain!! This topic should be raised & reviewed by all our society once or twice per decade at least!!
Btw, In the constituency that she had contested, ‘West Hull & Hessle,’ (One Of the ultra-safest Labour Seats!) she never stood any realistic chance of success as an independent. She might be more successful if she tries her luck next time in David Davis’ ( A BREXIT Wet!) Tory Constituency next-door Of Haltemprice & Howden in East Yorkshire! Especially, if she’d decide to run there for the BREXIT Party in the forthcoming election! I’m sure Nigel Farage would be delighted to have her on board!!
if its proven without doubt that someone has taken my family members life let me have half an hour in a room with them .thats how it should work
It would take me several days. Slow death through careful use of specific tools can be a game changer.
@@andytaylor1588 im not a sadist half an hour would probably to long but i dont agree with gorvernment controlled executions
Once again, Michelle Dewberry gets a whole clutch of egg-on-face. No wonder few voted for her (1,898) when she stood in Hull.
Absolutely not!
Why Not, it's too quick, stick them in a heavy working environment change gang system on repairing infrastructure.
China ? Backward ? C'mon !
Nobody has any right to take any body's life not even the government its wrong sorry
Four against one isn't a fair debate
Of course it's fair when the question under debate is so utterly stupid.
Easy answer....it will always be justified
Pointless topic, never going to happen
Maria Church: just like BREXIT, I suppose?!!
Absolutely right my dear, why do we keep such people alive and liable to escape from where they're in incarcerates
God instituted it under the law that by the witness of 2 or 3. If we didn't we are bucking God's command for society and that calls for judgement on judgement day for those who allowed it to happen unpunished in our world.
UR THE DUMBEST CONSERVATIVE I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE
Death Penalty may be policy but it is ultimately the person who flips the switch, initiates the injection, gas, etc that has to actually kill the convicted individual, who then has the killing of another placed on his/her soul, that it is they who must grapple with the ethics of the death penalty more so than any governing body would ever do.
They are doing Gods' work. The evil pushed it to the point of their death. The executioner didn't enjoy or yearn to execute. Think about it instead of blindly pasting fraudulent labels please?
@@nathangloversr Well if it's gods work than couldn't this all powerful god kill the person before they commit the crime in the first place?
Michelle is correct again but is outnumbered by the Snowflakes.
