I have a VF4 and TM3 at the moment....out in the forest making guitars and guitar parts with them. I had a VF2 as well....servicing a business I used to own making composite aircraft propellers.
I can attest to the quality of the Haas machines. None of them ever left me high and dry.

    Fantastic!
TSC is AMAZING. I had it on my 2010 VF2-SS, really lets you ramp up the speeds. We would regularly run the spindle at 80+% load with big MRR's.

Jusy a thing to watch out for with the Gen 3 controls. If you have multiple offsets in your program. The look ahead will register the new offsets even if you add an M00 before it in case you need to re-run a previous section. We crashed our UMC-750 hard because of this, we were unaware that it registered the new offsets so when the operator re-ran the previous op to make some pin holes deeper. It was operation on different offsets than we wanted, unaware of it. It has been brought to Haas' attention

NYC CNC I wad told that the software developers were informed and i believe it may be fixed in a future update. Also, you can't call on cutter comp G41/G42 if it has already been turned on. So just once on and once off... repeat as necessary. Also a future update fix. Otherwise it's a pretty good system. Check out the 'E' command in canned cycles to clear chips.

A few weeks back I bought and used the Pierson mini pallet system on my Speedio S500 in conjunction with mitee-bite various pins and clamps and have to say its a winning combo for sure. I wish I would have spent the money on these sooner but I made the mistake everyone makes and thought a vise was all I needed. Man was I wrong. If you are doing more than one off prototypes trash your vise and get a pallet system as its the only way to go.

FYI, we have pure aluminum 6061 slabs that we put on top of factory Mori Seiki tables in NV4k/NV5k machines that have been attached for 7+ years and you would think die-electrics would play a HUGE part with dissimilar metals and water based coolants and ... they just don't. We recently took a 3' sq table off of the Mori NV5k table to replace it and the original table is, even with water based coolants, still within less than 10 microns! (and that's only in spots which the new table bridges) I was completely shocked as I thought that the table would be eaten to hell but it was not. So, long story short, don't worry so much about die electric contact between dissimilar metals when using water based coolants. It just isn't very critical apparently as I've learned.

Chrus B or get what you need to grow the business. Fadals are all fine and dandy but you also need to think about the future the cost offset to put the machine in, electricians, millwrights and so on. Then you have to WAIT for a haas dillhole to out the thing together. That sounds like a nightmare

I've been an electrician for over 20 years and 95% of what I have worked on has been 120/208 or 277/480. I I I guess It depends on the area one is in. I have worked in California and Arizona. The east coast may have older systems.
"The most common commercial building electric service in North America is 120/208 volt wye, which is used to power 120 volt plug loads, lighting, and smaller HVAC systems. In larger facilities the voltage is 277/480 volt and used to power single phase 277 volt lighting and larger HVAC loads. In western Canada 347/600V is common.  " Continental Control Systems LLC

It says here the box is 3550kg. That's light compared to the 2 lathes I've moved. 10k kg+ both. One of them was just some meters to approx it's final position away from the big door and one was all across the hall like 150 meters total. Had proper coolant leak today at work too. Pump didn't go on and didn't pump the coolant to the second tank so it was all on the floor. Had to mop it for hour and half.

I am excited for you! Great stuff. I have a Wabeco (Tormach 1100 equivalent) and am hoping to buy a Haas Mini Mill in approx 6 months time. Its as far as I can stretch, but will do the work I am doing, so will be just as excited getting that as any other machine. It is timely for me for another reason, as I have been going to Pierson Workholding website quite a bit looking at those pallets, so very interested in seeing your videos and hearing your thoughts on those. I have his vacuum plate and to be honest dont really use it a lot, but it is a very nicely made item and does to job nicely when I do use it. I found that to be great to face a heap of stock every now and again, very fast way of doing doing it.

Looks like you set the probe length with the tool setter. A better way is to measure a tool and cut a flat on a block, then calibrate the probe length to that flat. That ensures that the probe trigger distance is taken into account.

Hey I'm a long time fan of this channel. I've been super inspered to work towards starting my own business at some point. Really I love the work you do thank you for the great content. However I've just got to ask a question. For context I think about the way you talk about the tormach Mills at their price point, and how having multiple small machines has its advantages over 1 fast machine. At what point did you reach the limitations of the Tormach Mills? I know they support your channel and I have certainly been grateful and blessed for their support of creators like you. It just seems like the Haas was a huge upgrade and to me it seems like (from an outside perspective and for lack of better terminology) you realized you needed a machine that is so much more capable than the Tormach line of machines that you had no other choice. I wonder if you could do a shop update video defending the Tormach machines or more importantly showing their limitations. It just seems like up to this point the Tormach machines were flawless on screen and then for some reason you went with a higher quality machine to push your business further. It's a long read but thank you for what you do. These are just some thoughts I have.

    • @Anonymouspock
      @Anonymouspock 7 лет назад +1

manoj B.K There are special coolants that have a certain amount of oil and additives such as Qualichem, which, last time I checked, John was using.
Keep in mind with demineralized water that the machine is made of metal and that water will remineralize itself, potentially clogging something or making a corrode-y rusty mess like what John Grimsmo had happen with his old Tormach.

I'd like to see how the new Linux-based control does. We had some problems with a couple of machines in school which had the old ColdFire processor. Oh, and they also threw tools. And the biggest problem I have with these is that they still grossly overstate the spindle horsepower, to as much as twice the actual rating.

Speaking of ROI, I know WIPS seems expensive, especially if you're using repeatable pallets, but it really pays for itself quickly in tool wear probing alone.
And if you start getting into parts where true position and concentricity are critical, the in process probing is awesome.
