Remember folks you still have to pay for NHS dentistry. It's subsidised but it's not free, and you get a very limited service at that( very little chair time, nothing that's considered cosmetic, like your front teeth will be covered) . This is the future of the NHS at large. You WILL PAY and you Will Get less.
You pay more and get less ...that's the whole nation now . Highest taxes in generations and not a single government dept working properly ...where has the money gone ?

They cannot go soon enough! Getting a dentist was impossible 14 years ago so god knows now! Even back then I had to travel 54 miles for a temporary filling, that fell out the very next day and I was refused free remedial action!

😊the problem is we train dentist and doctors at great cost to they state .they then go into private practice..they should stay with the state for a certain amoubt of years
But their training DOESN’T cost the state a penny as all students have to pay tuition fees, and if the government paid them a decent and competitive wage they would be less likely to go and work in the private sector.

@@susanmorgan3104 At the time they were going to bring the armed services in to run them. Although they have a fair amount of medics in the forces, it still would be not enough, and it would take time to train them up to deal with covid.

What I wish, what I dearly dealt wish is that whenever a conservative politician refers to a plan, a plan that almost certainly doesn’t exist, that the interviewer asks a very specific question about the plan! How many vans will each county have? Who is driving them? How many dentists are needed? Will they be paid expenses to stay in hotels is away from home? What equipment is being purchased for the van? Who is paying for that? How much does each van cost? Have the equipment standards been agreed? Are there suppliers lined up to fit out the vans? If the dental nurse is sick are there standby staff to step in? How are appointments booked? How are unscheduled urgent appointments to be managed?
This. Never. Happens. It’s a diabolical failure of British journalism.
There's another issue no one is talking about a lot of dentists were EU nationals that went back after Brexit and Covid.

I have an NHS dentist but still had to pull my own molar. Why? Because my dentist makes you join a waiting list for an NHS appointment (which BTW doesn't mean a free extraction, just a cheaper one). To get an appointment with an NHS dentist in real time now it needs to be what is defined as an an "emergency" appointment making the "service" about as useful as a chocolate teapot. So, after 3 months on the waiting list I pulled my own tooth and no doubt the Tories will use that as "proof" of efficiency or something. BTW, dental care is linked to heart disease, poor teeth = higher risk of heart attack. These Tories are not just scum, not just thieves, they are murderers, mass murderers on the scale of Pol Pot.

I live in Ireland, I went to my local Dentist for an HSE appointment free of charge 8 days waiting, treated by a recently arrived ex UK dentist who has set up home with his family here in Ireland from Cornwall.

Tell me about it, became disabled ( nearly died) after 30yrs NHS Operating Theatres career. Severe dental damage due to my condition. Managed to get an NHS dentist, root canals & crowns prepared. Then, he went fully private. I didn't get my crowns fitted. Been fitted my own temporary fillings ever since! 2yrs later still can't get an NHS dentist! What a total disaster!
So why are we paying taxes??

For my wife it was faster AND cheaper to fly to Spain and have her dental treatment ( broken fillings)
Then it was to have it done in the town we live just outside London.
Faster even privite it was 3 weeks quicker and about £100 cheaper inc flights !

She's the 8th Health Secretary in 14 years. Other stars of the post have been Andrew Lansley (who did huge damage) Matt Hancock, Steve Barclay and Thérèse Coffey.

in this country,Australia, we have dental hospitals, filled with uni studets training, guided by career dentists. the one in my city sees thousands a week, and costs nothing for pensioners and unemployed people. and do everything,all for free.

I have to drive 1 hour for my dentist and I'm going from a town with a population of 40,000 next to a town of 190,000, I then have to travel through a town with over 100,000, go past the turn off to another with 150,000, to go to the NHS dentist I have in a town of 300,000. I never realised how ridiculous that was till now.

I've lost about 5 teeth over the last few years. I just let them come out of their own accord. It takes a few months for them to come out and I've been lucky I've not had any problematic issues with them. There's no way I could even dream of affording a dentist these days, so it's not even an option at all. I've got another one on it's way out at the moment.
I never thought that was possible. I've only ever noticed 'bang your head on the wall' pain when teeth need treatment. That's in the past. I go to a dentist regularly now but she's private. Recently I've become aware of some newer dentists offering NHS treatment but as I have trust issues with dentists, I'm sticking to my own for now. You could try preventative care yourself to avoid tooth loss. That's what dentists advise anyway.

Victoria Atkins hasn't been schooled like Chris Philp, she is unable to answer with conviction, or give a convoluted reply, although she has the attitude of the rest of the tory rabble.
Chris Philp resorts to lies. I remember when he was being interviewed with the rail union leader Mick Lynch who was able to point to every lie that came out of Philp's mouth. That video is probably still on you tube. Quite entertaining but Philp had no embarrassment or shame. That's what sets convincing liars apart.
There used to be a desk in Budapest airport, alongside the desks for car hire, for a dental service. The hungarians were providing a complete package solution, including flights, accommodation and dental work, for patients from the UK. More recently, the desk has gone, but it probably still makes sense for patients from the UK to be treated in Hungary or Romania, especially as flights are cheap, and accommodation may be optional. With flight times of about 3 hours each way, and regular flights, a day trip is possible. It's to the UK's shame that I'm suggesting that option. By the way, if you to search for a Romanian dentist, the romanian for dentist is dentist.
Spending more on the NHS (begrudgingly and since what base date?) - because of inflation, of privatisation forcing up costs, on agency workers (because no FoM anymore), because of an ageing population... but *_not_* because of new hospitals or fixing crumbling buildings or paying doctors what they were on 15 years ago or because a healthy population is a more productive population or simply because health is a right. I'm glad I BRexited myself in 2016!

In real terms,that £3 billion is worth less in 2024 than it was 2014 on top of that the budget was cut by £300 million as well. Over 100,000 children were hospitalised last year due to dental problems. That was unprecedented. Hospitalisation for dental issues was a rarity before 2010.
Only 3 billion quid for the NHS? that's an scandal. For a nation of 67 million people, it's just outrageously low. Spain has 6 billion euros for their NHS, for 47 million people!!. Where are the 350 million a week that would go to the NHS after Brexit?
I blame the toothpaste industry. Our teeth and gums have never had it so good!
