I still remember my "Summer of Love" in Ocean City MD 1980. I was a 17-year-old barboy working at the Back of the Rack nightclub. Everyone was talking about this great band called Crack the Sky. Once I heard their music, I was hooked. The Beatles meet The Cars and Yes to create magical melodies.
I swear to God every time I try to come up with something I need for my mind musically I always come back to crack the sky especially this song! Thanks gentlemen the impact is too big to describe psychologically your music is paradoxically intuitive and relieve the stress of all humanity! Beyond borders! You crack the sky!
One of the best versions of this song ever - their #1 masterpiece. The very "cold" playing and tone on the piano is beyond perfect. How I wish I was in that room...
I got their debut album for a Christmas present in 1977. I was blown away by the power and brilliance of the musicians. 45 years later, nothing has changed. They perform one of the THE best versions of "The William Tell Overture" you'll ever hear
How cool this is -- a prog classic turned unplugged, with the synthesizer part of the original done on acoustic guitar. Wow, these guys were amazing, They deserved much more fame and acclaim than they got in the mid-Atlantic region. They were usually called "progressive," but there always was a solid pop tune at the heart of their songs.
Awesome sound quality! I've been a one-woman promoter for this band for 40+ years, crying their name from the mountaintops. But most people just don't get them...
Just saw them at Rams Head in Annapolis yesterday! They are better than ever. Their legend lives on. As one other commenter said, they are “the best band you’ve never heard of”. Keep on Rockin’, CTS!!!!
This is truly awesome. I just did a session with Joe Macre a few days ago. It was more of an R&B song and groove, but he was just as good and he's still got the same moves.
I think this is even more accessible musically than gentle giant! But that's pure speculation because I'm swimming in this beautiful crack the sky song! Cheers
A pure pleasure to see a really great bass player getting off on something he lives for and doing it oh so well! Everything else is perfect, too. Still miss the mellotron.
A friend made me a CD with 3 of their songs on it...listened to it today....brought me to RUclips. What a great band!!! I love discovering great "new" music/bands...even if new is from the 70s.
I always sing this to my wife when it's cold! Is she afraid of the ice? Ice! Everybody loves musical expansion or Progress! Right on.. back back to the song! Joey!
I always have and always will, love this band. Forty two years and still going strong. The boys from Crack The Sky are still my favorite musicians of all time. More so than the Beatles... and I love the Beatles!
This band is so damn tight it ain't funny six musicians it just kill it they should have been mega Stars but in my eyes they are. I took some friends to the science center by Pier six or whatever and saw them and my friends were amazed how good they were and how many songs did they knew by this band and they were like I know this song wow¡myself being a long time fan new every song they played some new stuff which was Kick-Ass such an underrated band I swear these guys deserve to be in the Rock and roll Hall of Fame in my opinion!

Sorry about the spelling of Bobby's and last name I had it on talk text. I talked to him when they played down at the inner harbor by the science center and he told me to bring some things to get signed and I did for a couple good friends they came to the show with me I don't think they believe that I ever met Bobby but they knew it that night because he pointed right at me and he came over in between sets and took my stuff and talk to me for a little while and then I saw him at the wild duck the last time I saw them I'm never ever disappointed like I said they are so damn tight it's ridiculous!
@@rustylindsay4265 if you search RUclips for “markus44uk For Catherine” there are about a dozen videos from the night and some of them feature Bobby. With the UK's Steven Wilson of porcupine tree Prog can re-emerge! All genres of music always progress! That's why I say crack the sky still has a lot of progress to achieve! Look at pfm! From Italy! The album photos of ghost! Gentle giant! Yes! Emerson Greg lake and Palmer! Carl Palmer! Jon Anderson! Chris squire! All the aspiring progressive rock musicians! Go for it! Like going for the one! From the band Yes! Focus purity music!
@@markus44uk I purchased the CDs from Markus about 10 years ago. I play them quite often. My boys and the wifey are CTS fans now, and most recently saw the guys in February 2020....a great show. If Markus still has the CDs, get them.
They did this same jam session electric version on a recording and I can't find it. The concert starts with John introducing all the member then right into Ice. Anyone else know the name of that recording. I don't think it was a bootleg either..
He crack is there anything left? Can you put something monumental together! Oreo evolve? Ice is insane! Great song! If I was the producer I were shortened it! What's next! Prog never dies!
By the way this is beautifully milotic progressive writing!? Don't ever forget it boys you can go ahead and do another album! Think about it! Then do it?

You just can sit back and melt your mind with this song. Saw band numerous times and enjoy their music. Thank goodness for Albums, CD's and YT.
Looks like for 2.5 hours in 2013 this basement was literally the coolest place in the known universe. Thanks for sharing this.
A pro-recorded double CD of the entire show is still available. PM me for details
Mind-melting music! Grew up listening to them and I still do today! Such an epic performance of Ice! Thanks for sharing!
I still have loads of the 2cd recording of the entire show. Msg me for details
@markus44uk Yes I'm interested!
This just might be the best recorded version of Ice. I've watched this many times. Thanks for posting.
THE most talented band you've never heard.
Love this band. From MD - got CTS on vinyl. Admit, a new fan.
Saw them last night, 44 years after I fell in love with their music. Absolutely the greatest band no one has ever heard of.
Signature Wit guitar sound. The time signature changes are amazing.
There's a whole lot of talent in that room

Listen to listen to rock and roll full over 50 years! These guys! Really were the tip of the spear for progressive rock in the 70s!

Such a great group. Saw them live many times. I will never understand how they didn't blow up!
Their label F'd up advertising & distribution, and then directly screwed them, too, money-wise. So sad. You can look it up.
An amazing version of an amazing song from an amazing band.
Joe is one of my all time fav bassists!
Thank youV.
these guys are so talented and it shows how they have matured and being able to play these classic songs on a different level...

"prog"? it's just rock and roll man

Perhaps they would write a tribute to our collapsed bridge.

Where have they gone?
Lifesong screwed them so... they had to get jobs.
Whoever Catherine is, she must have forked over about 500k for this. Because that's what she got in return.
