  • While racing with Owen, Léon almost ran into someone else. He went left and I went to the right. The we noticed we did the same, so we decided to go both the other way.... well watch till the end to see what happened.

That was a close call, I think the rule of thumb every windsurfer should follow is whoever is closest where the wind direction is coming from should give way…Just sharing..Be safe guys.

Yeah, I'm with you. Not many people know about the exact rules. That's always what you have to anticipate on. Especially with the rented sailboats. There is no licence needed.... it says enough, hahaha.

That is the thing. You can make your own rule of thumb, but there are official rules that you should follow. If you have your sail on port, you have right of way over a sailor with sail on starboard.
If you have the sail at the same side, the one who's course is closest to the wind (points more upwind) has right of way.
But I understand the situation at hand. Fortunately you both turned, better that than both doing nothing and crash.

@@Aijse That is correct what you said about the side of the sailes. It's always good to make eye contact and signal, this way you know you've seen eachother. In our case it was the best way to do it, thankfully it doesn't happen a lot with us 🤙

if you approach on opposite directions, the one with the right hand next to the mast has the priority over the one with the left hand closest to the mast. very easy to remember. one with priority should not change direction, one without priority should change direction. both need to ensure no collition though...
