I requested this sort of hairstyle for a high school dance. The stylist took over an hour to do it, was testy the whole time, and I took over 30 pins out of my hair at the end of the night. I’ve been discouraged from trying it myself since. It’s been about 15 years. Thank you for giving me the confidence to try again!!
Oh wow! Please do try! I'm so glad I was able to show you that it's no rocket science 😊 30 pins sounds realistic though 😅 but I guess it also depends on the length of your hair 😉
I was just thinking that, realistic. I am guessing at least 6 pins each strand for elbow length hair. The Pretty Shepherd may have used twice as many. And, as Karolina says, fancy hairstyles take practice. Maybe 3 times, maybe 6 times, maybe many more. It probably takes 20 or 30 minutes to do, possibly more, at least the first time
If the stylist was testy about doing a three-strand vortex, she has no clue about real long hair (many don´t) and you need a different one. Or a friend and RUclips!
@@Aigle20350 At 8:31 She said it was a piece of Japonaiserie, i.e. inspired by Japan. It looks like the bracelet tried to emulate Japanese lacquer ware. There are also Chinoiserie pieces, European art inspired by Chinese artistry, which are also beautiful, but this is not one of them.
I’m amazed that you don’t have humongous biceps from all the brushing, braiding, pinning and maneuvering hair of such length. My arms hurt just watching you! 😄 I loved your G-rated definition of that horrible year, 2020.
Not sure why YT brought me here... I’m a black American with curly hair that is only mid back. Not sure I’d ever grow my hair as long as yours...but I definitely enjoyed watching you do the style and your personality. Thanks for sharing ✌🏾
I do think this hairstyle is doable on more hairtuoes only after watching the video. I like hair videos on RUclips and have seen some black RUclipsrs do twistbraids. So knowing people with straight hair and curly hair can do it and me having mid-length or even longer hair all my life (but not as long as Anna) I can do lot's of cool undoes without needing extensions. And also not knowing how you ended up here? Maybe having certain interests like hairstyles and then also the weird algorithm of youtube
I used to be a ballerina so my standards when it comes to hair buns are pretty high and I want to say this is hands down the best one I have ever tried: it's easy, it looks good and it helped me hide what remains of the bangs I am currently growing out. Thank you!
You are lovely!! I sooo wish we could be friends!! We could play, pick flowers while we take care of the animals, talk fairy tales and hairstyles 🥰❤ you seem so much fun, I love your energy Anna❤
I genuinely believe using U-pins are a contributing factor to avoiding breakage in my hair. Bobby pins are too rough for my hair texture. Usually end up snagging and causing issues upon removal.
I don’t know if my hair is long enough for a vortex bun but you can be sure I’m going to find out! I *love* that you didn’t stress about it being perfectly centered and how it shows off the gradient colors of your hair. Happy New Year Anna, you brighten up my RUclips world.
I really enjoy your hair tutorials! I have long hair like yours and it’s hard to find any good RUclips content for real, long hair! Everything that comes up under “long hair’ tutorials are really for mid- length hair. So thank you so much for doing them!
You are an absolute doll and joy to watch, Anna. I love your zest for life, and sharing your beautiful hairstyles, folklore traditions, dresses and accessories! Keep making these very positive videos especially in these hard times. Jesus loves you!❤️
I absolutely love the way you were speaking of your bracelet. It’s probably because I’m a huge lover of authentic vintage jewelry myself , and if I can know the story behind the piece it makes it that much more special. So glad someone around my age has a love for it too!
I have long hair and before when there wasn't much content on internet I couldn't ever find hairstyles for long hair. All the instagram type of hairstyles aren't for long hair, beacause the weight drags it down. I'm excited to try your hair styles 🥰
I have done my hair using the ponytail split into 6 sections and each section twisted and tucked into the elastic band. You can either have it so the tail of each section pokes out or tuck them in, then pin the section down it creates a crown of twists and looks like a flower. If you have the ends poking out of the elastic it resembles a "Wheatsheaf" hair bun. With you hair it might be more difficult but it is possible to do.
I actually prefer the finished look worn during the introduction instead of end-only reveeal. It allows a better examination of the style. Happy New Year!
Nice one! I just tried it and since my hair is shorter, my bun is smaller, but just as complicated and awesome looking! Very simple and quick like you said, the longest time spent on the braids! I had wondered how to do a rope braid and now I know!
thank you for showing your cute-hairstyles, you look adorable. i am in my 80s and my silver hair-is just below my shoulders. I’ve. had a really hard time trying to find a cute way to put it up and you have shown me. i think with some practice i can do some of them. i love watching your videos. i realize most people think i am too old for hair this long but i do not want to cut it. so once again, thanks😍
GASP! That beautiful reveal which was a total surprise and not at all spoiled by the beginning of the video! I did not see it coming! (How'd I do? ;) )
Very pretty and very easy! Elegant but fun with the flowers, combs and u-pins. If my hair is ever long again, I will try this! I have a very similar bracelet from my grandmother, but the shapes are butterflies, not lozenges. Also have the matching necklace with a large butterfly in the center. I seem to remember screw - back earrings, but haven't seen them for over 50 years. May the new year bring peace, joy and wonder to you. From Florida, your fan, Juadonna.
Thank you! Well, It's actually spring now and we are slowly creeping outside to greet each other again as the plague is Passing. I dyed my super long hair "Shocking Blue and "Lie Locks" purple. It's amazing, I've never done any such thing. I will add this bun to my hairstyles and it will help show off the colors. I like your hair style guides, and I can reproduce them pretty easily. Thank you. (I'm going to look for some celluloid combs, too!!! They are to die for! YUM.)
I will definitely try this and see whether it would work for my fine hair. I think I could try using dry shampoo and tease my hair to give it more volume and maybe pull the twisty braids apart a bit. It will still be a small bun but probably pretty!
@@catherinejustcatherine1778 Maybe, but I have perhaps sixth of Annas hair thickness, so there’s only so much I can do. :-) I tried it a bit but my braids got unraveled midway so it didn’t really look right. I try tomorrow after I’ve washed my hair so that I can get the maximum volume and grip. Adding flowers will definitely add to the illusion of having more hair.

Tried the hairdo immediately. Worked pretty well, although my hair isn't near that long. Also the rope braid didn't work as well as I would have liked, but I'm happy with it. Took maybe 5-10 minutes.
Ahhhh, so lovely! I also really enjoyed watching you talking about assembling your outfit, accessories etc, I'd love to see a whole video of that kinda thing, maybe some outfits for different events, colour schemes, themes or something? I have no idea what I'll be doing this New Year's Eve, but whatever I do, it's bound to be better than last year, which I spent weeping because of an event's photographer being completely ableist.
I would love to see your wardrobe. I too live and work a farm. I have tried and failed to create a collection that is both functional and lovely. I dont want to copy i just don't have a clue how to be a "girl" and would love the inspiration.
i have the same problem, but I have found these little ties on Amazon that look like little bungie cords... they are brilliant. And i have thick longish hair and was even cutting out scrunchies. Great hair do , pretty.
Thank you for this!! As someone who only knows 3 styles (ponytail, pigtails and down), I really really needed this. My hair is beginning to fall out from a combination of repeated hair styles in the same position and under active thyroid. Happy New Year. I really love watching your channel. I have hair past my bottom but they are "dreadlocks" so I don't know if I could pull this off. Going to try though xx
I admire your beautiful long hair. Have you ever tried sewing a t-shirt (or silk, or velvet) length around an elastic hair tie? It takes about 5 or 10 minutes, and lasts a long time. Of course, if your system works well for you, go with that. I save all the elastic, rubber, plastic, metal & other closures I get from groceries & clothes, and repurpose them. How do you get the elastic to not pull at your hair? (In the finished ponytail. ) I always get hairs caught in it when I am trying to put my hair up.
Thanks for the tip Catherine! I will look into that! Putting it in the ponytail isn't ever an issue for me 🤔 but maybe it helps that I never let go of the base of the pony unless I already have my other hand at the ready 🤷♀️ I'm not sure, but maybe that's doing the trick.
@@PrettyShepherd You are welcome! I hope you find something you like. I'm assuming you mean every wrap around, right? (I think you have showed that in a few videos). We also have them ready-made in the USA. I will see what they're called. The huge fabric ones are called "scrunchies", but there's narrow-fabric ones too.
You should totally check out these hair ties I use. They wrap around the hair and clip, just like those ball chain necklaces used for military dog-tags and lamp light chains do. You don’t have to pull hair through the pony tail to put it in one. You just gather your pony, wrap the tie around, and secure the end in the attached end clip. I swear I’m not affiliated with them (obviously, I’m a recreational vehicle and not a hair product pusher). They are on hairties.com.

Ummm I’ll probably be running outside and twirling around and around as I can step outside of self isolation after travelling to a funeral. The freedom will be 👌
Have you tried invisibobbles for your ponytails? They are a bit more gentle on hair and don't pull out as much hair. Idk how it would work on very long hair, but I love them.
Using women's stockings cut up into pieces is a nice hair tie without snagging hair
👍
I use to French braid my hair, and for years couldn't French braid other people hair. Love this!

Amaizing tutorial, my very first try was beautiful, it really is very easy, thank you. Does anyone know the name of this updo?

Is that Geralt of Rivia back there?!
