If the entire office shuts down from one person taking the day off, the problem is with the management. Everyone is entitled to sick days.

Unfortunately where I live, people can and do get fired for calling out sick especially if it's more than a couple of days in a row. Many employers do not offer sick days. Even if they do offer sick days, they aren't required provide paid time off. Many times people have to go in sick as they can't afford to lose their job. Here people can get fired for any or no reason here, as long as it's not due to things like their disability, race, age, sexual orientation, etc.

Seriously, since when did being a responsible parent have negative consequences in the workplace? After a person punches out, their time becomes their own. Any good parent, male or female, puts their children ahead of drinking with coworkers.

If you're in the US, look up your state's equivalent of the Family & Medical Leave Act and general labor laws. If you're not in the US, your country may have something similar. Also, check your company's written employee guidelines; it's ridiculous how many bosses don't know / care about what the company policy and state laws say you're entitled to.
Finally: if you live in the US, you do NOT need to explain or justify your time off. At the most, your company policy may say you need a doctor's note to qualify for paid sick leave or not get in trouble for unplanned time off, or you may need to fill out some paperwork with a bare-bones explanation of the circumstance, to qualify for Family & Medical Leave. Yours and your family's personal health info is none of your employer's business, and you don't need to declare what's wrong or divulge a diagnosis; a medical note only needs to state whose care you're under and how long you're expected to be out.

People should not be bullying others when they are being responsible to their families and personal life. It's such a contradiction that Frank thought he should take time off if he's sick but doesn't allow others when someone in their family is sick. I bet he even demands people to go into the office just to prove they are sick.
